Is there a gun customization and improvement aspect of this game? I like to have the perfect gun for my needs rather than depending on what drops in game.

tip for those encountering heavy armoured enemies now, if you get spotted by one in reflex mode and they are close but not close enough for cqc....Throw a decoy at their feet and pop !
Tapes replacing the trademark MGS cutscenes are really disappointing. I'm one of the people who liked the long story scenes.
I feel like the long cutscenes would have been fine here as there are such long segments of gameplay with no interruptions.

I wonder if there is any chance at all we could (if enough of us were vocal) get a patch that maps a corner of the touch pad to pause tapes. It would be nice if they paused it for you but it's too much work to get back to the player

In a way, it is going to be so hard to go back to an open world game that doesn;t let me scouyt and plan as well as this. I really feel like a highly trained soldier when i'm scoping out an area for enemies and entry points.

I'm enjoying the game a lot, I love the gameplay and most missions (except the one you have to kidnap a sheep... seriously what happen with open world games and sheeps? you always end up stealing one). I don't feel like I need too much story so far, I'm only at mission 7 and have done all side ops available and listened all tapes anytime they were given to me. I like the management of Mother Base, nothing too complicated so far and I don't need to spend time with it other than asign some work and develop stuff that are useful to me.
What I can say is that I'm not mindblowed so far, it's a great game and I still have a lot ahead but I've played 14hs and until now nothing has amuse me beyond the "this is great" feeling.
I'm with people saying that mute Snake is weird, it's not annoying but sometimes a response or word is needed from him.
Also, it's really obvious that this game is cross gen, I like what I see but to me the graphics aren't very good, I don't know but after the Witcher 3 this world feels really poor in comparison and I don't think it's all due to art direction.
Another thing is that traversing from one place to another doesn't feel appealing to me, I love to ride a horse in this games but here the only thing that matters are the missions, infiltration in bases and villages, and it's ok, that's the goal of the game but sometimes I've to travel a really long way and is somehow boring.
I don't know if someone had made the joke but: "This is a great game, but no a great Metal Gear Solid game".

I did but the first time I played it...I went to the village to get info, and before I'd interrogated anyone the vehicle popped up over 1km away and i couldn't get there fast enough.
Second time I stuck around in the village and found an intel file with the movement route heading south. So i headed to the crossroads north of the airport and it's still 2020m away.
My friend just said he did it first time, went to the village, got the intel file and figured airport would be a good place and blam.
Weird.
Edit: I've been doing this mission in the middle of the night. Maybe that effects the vehicle route.

Absolutely. If anything, a successor to MGSV built exclusively for PS4/XBone tier CPU and memory ceilings, would be the perfect condition for MGSV open world with greater depth to emergent AI and battlefield developments. It's a logical step forward.
Alas, it will never be.

It's pretty amazing to think that after about 50 hours - by some way the most amount of time I've played a single player game in ages - there's still so much ahead.
MGSV definitely has a few flaws, but honestly.. I really do feel like this is once in a generation level stuff. It frequently reminds me how incredible it really is. Phenomenal game on several levels.

Definitely not for me. Open world syndrome for me, historically, has applied to Arkham City (not Origins or Knight), any Assassin's Creed except 4, Far Cry 3+, Crackdown...
It has not, however, applied to Dying Light, The Witcher 3 or MGSV for me this year. Those games have just upped the ante in terms of open world. Often I didn't feel like I was in an open world while playing them because they're so well designed.
Basically the open world gameplay in MGSV is phenomenal, and the story is great (so far), but they kinda fucked it by shunting the story irregularly into the open world. Like too much gameplay before story.
Compare that to most open world games where the story is just shit but plentiful - so you can mainline the story missions with far more ease, but they're just bad and don't gel with the world. MGSV doesn't have that problem. The story is great just "diluted" too much.

I started playing as soon as it let me, and I never hit a point where I had to wait for it to finish installing.

Well, the Russians already took over that land that you are in the less than 10 hrs of gameplay that you have under your belt. Why would there be fighting other than you completing your missions?

The tapes are growing on me... they make the open world void a bit more bearable and as someone not totally versed in MGS canon, the history on the tapes is welcome. Trotting across the desert listening to tapes on a Sony Walkman, I really like the *click* of the play button. Unfortunately the listening experience is totally borked the second Miller or Ocelot starts talking on the radio.Tapes replacing the trademark MGS cutscenes are really disappointing
It's important to separate the narrative context and game design choices.
The game design choice came first, almost certainly, then the narrative was designed to exclude rebel fighters.

As always with people who mention "Silent Snake", I would recommend holding that thought until you're further into the game.
I feel like both the regularity of the cutscenes, and the amount Snake speaks within them, improve dramatically past a certain point. If you're only at mission 7, there absolutely are scenes ahead where Snake speaks plenty. And you'll be seeing them with far more regularity.
Didn't a PR person just come out saying that they want to continue the franchise? Like, last week.
It was a real dick move after how they treated Kojima and their stoic silence about everything, but it does make me curious about the future of MGS.
This is what I think, too.
It's just a marker, I spent 15mins looking at everyone's faces and almost quarantined people based on slight acne..then another 15-20 running around trying to use my night vision goggles on people's chests..When all is revealed it'll make sense and clear up some things from previous missions
The show must go on. The series didn't stop when hayter was shit canned. It won't stop either with kojima gone too.

DD will auto mark nearly everything of interest automatically (you still have to scan for stats) and he can be used to kill/stun single targets and as a distraction.
Quiet is a kill/tranq machine. If you tell her to provide cover, she practically clear all the enemies for you.
As for gun customization: yes. There are side-ops that you need to complete before you're allowed to cosmetically change your weapons; changing them via mods and attachments is done by developing them through R&D, which basically means that the more attachments the weapon has, the longer it will take to unlock and develop it.
There was a tape where they talked about the inspiration for the design of the MSF logo, and nobody mentioned the artistic talent necessary to create it.
I thought that was funny.

Narrative context could be anything. I don't know. It's Metal Gear. It's a video game. They can work something out. My suggestion was mostly for gameplay reasons, developing a sterile open world into something more lively and dynamic.
I'm sure MGS will continue. I just feel evolving MGSV with "living battlefield" ideas is something I'd expect from KojiPro. A new team? Who knows.

I have no idea if this is actualy working since there is no status of how far the installation is.
I died numerous times on that one trying to run away.
In the end I ran back into the cave and shot the skulls from up high. It was only at the every end that one got up there, so I used the honey bee on him and eventually killed him.

Its the same problem I have with recent Zelda games and Link. He's very quiet in cutscenes and one-sided interactions, but he's clearly a defined character with emotions and motivations that are not my own. This wouldn't be so bad if it was like Half-Life or Bioshock where I never saw the man, but I'm watching cutscenes of this man who's part avatar/part character try to be both and fail. Its wants the cake and wants to eat it too.
I just ran out of the area like a bitch and that worked. I hate the skulls. They scare the hell out of me.
