So, from a gameplay perspective: they always advertised that enemy AI would adapt to your play style, ie wear helmets. I passed a certain mission and got a quick message in the reports on enemies starting to wear helmets. (It main the main ops where
you extract or kill the 3 main targets
Every other game I would instantly think "they shoehorned in a supposed dynamic feature in the form of 'beat mission x, people start wearing helmets'". So I wonder: is this still dynamic? Is there a different possible outcome?
On this note: are there any other gameplay features missing that were previously advertised?

Yes, it is dynamic. If you never headshot people I'm pretty sure no one will be wearing helmets. I didn't see a single gas mask until I took out an entire tank unit with Smoke Grenades.

Mission something-like-25 spoilers (MB problems):
So, about the infected people, you can tell someone is infected because they talk Kikongo, right? The tapes talk about mouths and it's the only matching thing between the first quarantined people. If so, how fast does this pass by? I had to quarantine 261 people, I can't do shit right now

Fuck you. Fuck mission 29. Fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck everyone.

I can't do shit. I try to kill the big guys with rocket launchers, and they refill their health.
I can't call in a helicopter. I can't do anything. Fuck this mission.

Fuck you. Fuck everything. First time I angrily turned off the system. I'm so irritated.

Fuck.

Haha, only a couple of missions to go and I'm there too, can't wait! Sounds like fun

It's 100% dynamic. Enemies will adapt to your stategies. I'll give one example:

One of my favourite strategies was sneaking up behind a soldier and holding him up at gunpoint. After a while though
when I was holding a soldier up, he would sometimes draw a knife and quickly turn around and lunge at me
. First time this happened it caught me by complete surprise.

You can actually influence certain enemy gear in certain ways which I won't spoil.

Fuccccccc. I play MGS for the story.

Oh well, jumping in.

Bummed out though.
What if they took away story completely and delivered the ultimate realization of the MGS stealth gameplay vision?

That's the Faustian bargain that is MGSV.

At this point I feel more impressed than disappointed, because I didn't know KojiPro had it in them to kill the story-indulgent part of themselves completely, in favour of a pure stealth videogame.

No, it's shit. It's horseshit because you have to cheese your way through.

Want to stealth? it's impossible. Want to do a no stealth kill? it's impossible. Want to do it fairly? it is impossible.

I am stumped in thinking of a worse mission/level in all of Metal Gear (all 20+ years), and I can't. So, if you like it? Fuck you. If you hate it, good job, but fuck you for playing it.

Fuck this level. Fuck it all. Fuck everything and everyone. Fuck.

Quiet's gold outfit <3

Keep doing the main missions jesus. You're on 13 right now I presume so yeah... Way to early.

I'm clearing all the unlocked side ops before proceeding to the next mission. So if those things unlock much later, I'll probably be 50 hours in before unlocking them, lol.

Easiest way to get stuff like fuel is to look for material containers, they're mostly in the bigger bases. And some combat deployment missions have materials as rewards so look out for those.

You can use tanks and stuff from your load out screen or you can request them when you're out on missions.

I only found one patch of material containers (I think there were 7), but they don't seem to respawn.

And I can't find any vehicles in the sortie screen, even though I have over 15 vehicles right now as I can see in the resources tab in my iDroid, nor can I request them.

MGS V feels like the anti MGS4. Also, so far the story is perfectly fine. Peace Walker was considerably worse.

When does Snake get the 'naked' outfit? which mission?

Same here, but the incredible gameplay more than makes for it. Go in expecting an awesome stealth game, but a terrible Metal Gear Solid, cause that's how I've been feeling these past 40 hours.

Good to hear! I wonder why I got the notification in the end report, though. Early main ops spoiler:
I fultoned the commanders, and they said they had a meeting on getting more gear, such as helmets.

At nearly 30 hrs at episode 20.

I honestly now dont mind seeing whats or who is coming up in the credits pre mission into. I sort of get hyped at any story development so knowing major players will appear pushes me fwd.

Get your best rocket launcher and an assault rifle and it's a piece of cake. I just kept dropping new supply crates and then running around.

Not to sound like a dick but I honestly can't see how you're having so many issues with it.

The MGS for people who don't like MGS is the way a lot of people have been refering to it and I totally agree.

It's sad that MGS4 will be the last true MGS game ever made.

The soldiers knife counters are incredibly well done, even better when you counter right back. This game has the best motion capture I've seen in the bizz.

Not sure if this has been mentioned,
but if you interrogate diamond dogs soldiers, they'll, among other tips, give you the locations of rough diamonds scattered throughout Mother Base.

I really hope MGS5's story is going somewhere with all this, because so far it seems very poorly done all around. Boring, self-infatuated, nonsensical, and worst of all no fun. Plus the whole "there's almost no dialog" thing, which is its own can of worms.

(This is mostly so I can contrast my thoughts once I finish.)
I seriously don't understand why development doesn't progress when the game is closed. Peace Walker did this, I'm pretty sure.

To promote the online deployments, which have 22 hour+ mission times and do tick down while away from the game. Of course, if you can't connect later on that team is stuck in limbo until you do, so think carefully before deploying them on any long-term missions.

Is anyone else not using the boss for missions and side ops

I rescued this badass chick with great combat stats and I been running with her ever since

And this dude with a fast sprint speed
Named Boom Kangeroo

The boss still shows up in cutscenes ofcourse

This is how I ended up beating Mission 16.

I was kinda concerned about it since I read a lot of complaints about how hard it was, but it ended up being pretty cake.
I never even fought anyone. I used airstrikes to take out both tanks, had Quiet snipe the remaining foot soldiers and after triggering the Skulls cutscene, promptly backed up and got Quiet to (unsuccessfully) snipe them before figuring out that they were shambling slow enough that I could airstrike them as well. The fact that I never even got my hands dirty made it pretty fun.

It's undoubtedly the best "playing" MGS ever made. I don't know how much harder you'd be making the game for yourself by going loud every single time, but if you have no interest in stealth, all that means is you're now stuck playing an amazing one man guerrilla warfare simulator.

It's amazing. It's amazing.

The gameplay truly is amazing - the controls are very snappy and smooth, and the game runs like a dream. Such a joy to play, really.

You can't play it stealth. You can't play it with no kill.

Both of those have been staples since MGS2.

It's just a BLOW SHIT UP level, and that's not MGS to me. This entire game, while having great moments outside of this level, are not MGS to me. And, it's frustrating. This is really an anti-MGS to me. No Snake (Big Boss is in it by name, but not by character. And Ocelot is a fucking mess as a character.) and such.

Unless the last dozen or so missions pack it up, I'm at a loss. I can't play this as a MGS game. I have to play this as a dumb action shooter game or else it is fucking frustrating like this mission. I have to kill and blow up shit with rocket launchers in this level, and that hasn't been MGS for me for a while.

Spoilers for up to mission 25
Also, if you've been playing stealth, you now need to research rocket launchers and grenade launchers, which take time and result in your Mother Base crew dying because.. god forbid you played this as a MGS game prior to this mission.

At this point, I don't care. I want it done.

I hate the names at the start of missions, mission 20 would have been way better if it was a surprise so now I look away whenever it happens.

Another thing I learned today

You can fast travel at mother base

Use the card board box and find the small orange platforms (delivery points)
Get in box hold A (xbone).
You can do this in the operation areas but you need to find the corresponding points

Played all the way to mission 25 never knew this and a crapton of sideops

Yup. The story is super unsatisfying and disjointed throughout. Yet gameplay-wise this might be the best stealth game ever. In a perfect world we would get both, but hey sacrifices were made.

Complaining about the development time seems weird to me. On items, the most I've ever had to 'wait' for something was 36 in-game minutes and that is rare. I'm never even thinking about it because this isn't a game I'm waiting around a lot, or ever, in.

Regarding Mission 16:
i didn't engage the skulls at all. I just took a lap around to lure them away from the truck and the fultoned it out and sprinted out of the hot zone and mission success.

With all the complaining about the story, there's much more than I expected. Granted, I'm still early in the game, but I still like it more than 2, 4, or PW's story. The only thing I'm disappointed about is silent Big Boss, what made him a more interesting character than Solid Snake is that he showed far more range of emotions, and he acted human, unlike Solid Snake. Now he lost what made him better than Solid Snake.

Oh, yeah. That's another big benefit of the cardboard box.

That mission I think is static and always triggers the helmet as a way to introduce you to the system. There's a bunch of different responses though and it's definitely dynamic they really don't like it when you spam non-lethal grenades.

After what mission do you get the FoB and security team?

You can do that on missions as well, but you need to collect (not really a spoiler)
delivery notes
from the area you want to fast travel to.

22 or 23 I believe.

So wait, is the story really not good in this?

No spoilers please.

It's interesting, but it is sparse... but it feels sparse because there's a lot of stuff stuck in between that doesn't advance the plot. Like, you'll do four merc jobs, and then a mission that has to do with Cipher/XOF that pushes the plot forward, then some more merc jobs, etc. Plus time going back and forth with Mother Base, Side Ops (some of which are integral to the plot), tapes are interesting, all the micromanagement.

The story is simply spread thin among a lot of missions so it so far doesn't feel as condensed and epic as previous games.

For instance, Snake Eater is one long continuous journey, takes place over a few days. Guns of the Patriots is one long journey, interspersed with some stuff in the plane. The Phantom Pain clearly takes place over months and months, but the story is something that... doesn't feel like it takes over that length of time, if that makes sense. Though if you strung all the main story missions together, it'd have a markedly different feeling I think.

Has nobody figured out the Battle Gear yet ?

I'm in trouble too. I used him in a combat deployment, cancelled the mission and now he's gone! Have no idea how I can get it back or make another one.
It's still in the hangar at MB, but not available to be dispatched on missions...

Honestly, I'm super confused by your post.
Yeah, mission
29
is a boss fight where you have to blow shit up. That's not exactly new to the series.

Pretty much every other mission can be stealthed with no kills.

If you don't have any kind of grenades or launchers, use Quiet as a buddy and let her go to town or use D-Walker.

My new favorite thing to do. Go to the animal conservatory, tranq the bears then throw magazines at them. Serves you right killing me on the end of my mission.

When does the animal part open up? Miller said that it was going to happen and that someone else was paying for food and all that, yet I can't find it in my base.

Has anyone else ran into a problem on the PS4 version where you can't start the game?

I just keep getting an error saying: This save data cannot be used as the relevant downloadable content was not found.
Downloadable content can be re-downloaded from the PlayStation Store.

There is nothing on the PlayStation store for me to download and I can't do anything now. It worked fine since launch day and even earlier today but now it won't work for some reason.

I could develop the Stun Arm without finding the blue print (Side Op 6) and now I am stuck with Stun Arm level 1. As I don't have the blue print I can't develop it any further. Side Op 6 is gone too. Is this a bug?
