I love the gameplay of the game, but I don't care for all of the motherbase stuff. Don't like how the story is told and how nothing really flows. It's a game of micromanagement. That's not something I want in a metal gear game. It would be fine if there were a simple story mode that eliminated the micromanagement and just told the story as it happens.

I don't like the chopped up nature of the game.
Agreed 100%
There's this weird disconnect that I really don't like. I like my metal gear games to be a straight forward linear story

When you're doing side missions of the main objection in a mission...for example on Phantom Limb mission (mission #2) to extract the commander of the Wakh Sind Barracks. Can you just leave? Or do you need to finish it for it to count?

Second: I just extracted the commander and was going to make my way to the transport vehicle but it vanished. What gives?

Couldn't agree more, it's obviously a very big change for the series so it's easy to understand why some fans might be disappointed with this direction, but as someone who loved old MGSs to death (besides 4 and PW as well) I can't really be mad on this game, what Kojipro has achieved here is wonderful, it's not 100% MGS, but it's such a well crafted game that for me, set the bar high for open world gameplay and freedom, overall I'm very happy with the final result and this has a great chance to be my GOTY.

Thanks for the impressions :)

Yeah, I mean, I'd love to see a modern day version of the other MGS games in all its glory, but I haven't played a really, wholly satisfying Metal Gear since 3. MGS4 showed potential with Act 1 and most of Act 2, then for me went to shit both in game design and narrative. I really didn't like Peace Walker at all, mostly due to the shackles of the PSP hardware and generally weak game design.

So I'm glad KojiPro has sent off the series with a reminder that even though everybody talks about the crazy stories and cinematic narrative, the previous MGS games have also been, at their best, very inventive and well designed in play. This doubles down on that, if at the expense of the narrative, but it doesn't bother me at all. Still feels exactly like Metal Gear with the gameplay at its absolute best.

Millers a bitch, yeah I said it.

I like asshole Miller it really explains why Solid Snake is bit of a asshole due to Miller being his Master. Guess Millers everybody is a prick and Cipher is to blame for everything attitude rubs of on Snake with his obsession of nano machines and Patriots and liquid of course.

Thanks, but the question I'm asking is the difference between Total Play Time (nearly 2 hours) and Time (57 minutes)?

Total Play Time is your... total time with the game. Time is the time you spent in that particular mission.

The ranks are primarily based on how quickly you finish, but the animal grade or whatever (wolf, octopus, etc) is based on how you approached the mission. There's an explanation for the different grades somewhere, but I can't remember where right now. It's actually sort of cool in that it explains how agents receive their codenames.

Yeah makes sense now.

god damn

customized non-lethal sniper rifle is a game changer

that + ddog fultoning enemies for me and im straight up HUNTIN pokemans

I love how serious business hamburger's are to Miller

I've got my money on specifics of at least one big twist because they've telegraphed it a few times. At least, that's what I'm reading, and it seems kinda obvious in a Kojima "but it's not obvious" way.

I'm sure there's gonna be at least one twist, and I'm already pretty sure what it is. Bummer if I'm right, but at least it would be a pretty neat one... If executed right. And in the end, very little of this story has been executed to my liking, so I'm gonna stay skeptical.

You know what's funny about Miller in this game?

Some times he sounds like normal PW/MGS1 Miller, and other times he tries to go full blown Batman.

You online? because that makes the iDroid work like shit.

Are you online? It seems to does calls to the server pretty much every time you go to the menu, which can take a while. I've been playing offline (hit escape->disconnect) because of that.

It's due to being online, when you access Mother Base-related stuff. Goes away entirely if you're disconnected from Konami's servers. It's really bad right now, but will probably be better once the servers aren't imploding.

There's not much of a reason to stay connected, though. FOB's and the online element all suck.

oh yeaaaaah.. that's right. I finally managed to connect to download my GZ save.

So I should just stay offline?

Oh, sorry.

The former number is the amount you've been playing of the game in general.

If I had to guess, I'm guessing it's something like total time and actual gameplay time but I have no idea.

Thanks guys. Makes sense that Total Playtime could be for the whole game, and Time for just the last mission. But then if I've only played the Prologue, they should be the same. Unless parts of the Prologue (roughly half of it) didn't count toward the mission time but were counted as overall play time.

When you put it like that, it kinda does make sense

He's still a bitch, though

Bet everytime he drops a cup or bumps into somebody while walking around Mother Base he starts shouting how Cipher is to blame and set him up.

So uh, do I have to do these (post mission 30)
EXTREME and Subsistence missions to proceed through the rest of the story? Because screw that shit. What's the point of developing weapons I can't use? No DD either.

Mission 28 into 29

What in the fuck at "to be continued" then being plopped back into the heli as if nothing happened.

Awkward as hell.

I'm kinda bummed that there are so few customization options for soldiers. Really wanted some berets or balaclava+berets to make my soldiers look like the Ocelot unit.

I gotta say, this is one of the best looking game I've ever played.

The lighting is the best I've ever seen. The way the Moon's light shines behind the mountains is soo good. You see bounced light on the rocks and mountains in Afghanistan(wow).

Big Boss is one the best models in gaming, His clothes bend and fold(like his pants, especially). The blood stains from battle are very detailed and well done, at times it seems like his muscles contract and relax(his abdomen area especially, might be the shadows playing tricks on em though)

The animations are great/Love the way D-horse cuts corners.

and the art direction is well executed that in more than makes up for the cross gen, shaders or techniques

hats off KojiPro.

I just finished mission 8 and im 21 hours in and I'm loving every minute, the mechanics and gameplay in this game are so fucking tight and fun, GOTY. I can't even go back to the clunky mess that was Witcher 3.

Theres a bug in my game. I can't pick up music tapes anymore.

UGH.

P.S. Using old WWF entrance music for your chopper is the way to go. *Glass breaks* Peaquod 3:16

Man mother base is dull. I feel like I'm missing something but I'm starting to realize I'm not.

It's just dull! A hundred doors that don't open, bridges that hundreds of meters long for no reason, and where the hell is ocelot and Miller all day!? I have no interest in going to every platform to explore and find nothing.

Anybody find anything interesting besides
Paz in sick bay
?
Well it's boring but there's also no real need to go there very often.

Imo the ACC should have just been replaced with some sort of control-room at the MB where Ocelot/Miller hangs around.

You can just do side ops, apparently. I'm at the same part.

I'm getting a bit tired of D-Horse's handling. He does behave as a horse would most times, but there are several instances where he'll halt on objects that a real life horse would easily traverse with a hop or (with a well-trained, in-shape horse) a leap.

Anyone else noticing this? Smallish rocks in Afghanistan?

I can't trust people who aren't serious about hamburgers. It's a perfect measure of a person's authenticity.

Please tell me this is a quote from the game.

Wow, so nothing interesting ever really opens up at mother base? That's a huge let down.

I honestly was just assuming because construction was so new that was why I had no interiors to explore. That really dampens the whole mother base location.

Seemed like a really easy way to add some interesting interiors, some exploring, upgrading and some mini games.

How do I do mission 17 undetected/no kill?
Got to the end without setting anything off and the chopper set it off. Ugh. What a waste of stealth for 1.5 hr

AAA holy shit I screwed up during this mission and
left the kids who I wasn't carrying there to die lol

Still got an S rank, no harm no foul ?_?

I just want to be clear on something. Do you get a secret ending or anything for completing EVERY objective for all the missions?

I'm also curious what happens if i replay a mission? Can i strive for just the ones I missed (plus the main obviously)? Or do you have to hit them all in one go for it to count them all?

Just fought the
skulls

FINALLY KojiPro nailed good/responsive gunplay (MGS4 was almost there) as well as action mechanics.... can't tell you how many times I use dive like I'm playing Resident Evil 6 (^____^)

Also, I don't hear enough people commenting how fucking awesome the music is in this... not just the licensed stuff but the Gregson-Williams-esque action compositions. Incredible stuff that immediately snaps you into the mood <3
