The moment I find a blonde soldier with the right kind of look in my combat unit
..EVERYTHING DIES. Very little stealth human shields and D.Walker as my mech suit of destruction.

This is a game MD Geist would approve of unequivocally.

Holy shit Mission 30
that base infiltration tho. I went hard stealth for the first two gates but the third gate was held down too heavily I had to call in a couple choppers and a sandstorm hit at the perfect time for me to dart past.
As for the cutscenes with Big Boss and Skull Face, am I crazy or did they keep looking at the camera during Skullface's monologue?

I've seen reports of it working fine for other people, interesting. Did he change the emblem before doing mission 41? Mission 41 is what actually 'triggers' her leaving, even if she doesn't do it right away.

Hmm, not sure since I told him earlier today(when I read it on here) so I'm not sure what mission he was up to.

FWIW I put the butterfly on really early(mid 20s) and am currently at mission 40 or so. I should be able to beat it tomorrow and find out if it's possible. I also bought all of her sniper variants, sniper wolf, XOF, silver/gold/blood costume and all that if that would change anything.

I did the same thing, got an S too. It was super easy, I just
followed the 2 tanks to the airport where the joined up with the truck and waited until the hit a chock point and just hopped in one of the tanks after the cutscene were the parasite squad dudes popped out, it was really straight forward I thought.

I didn't even do that.
I actually screwed up in the airport and let the convoy get away. I intercepted, The Skulls popped out, and I proceeded to freak out. I Fultoned the truck (took two attempts; The Skulls don't like balloons apparently) and then I whistled for D-Horse and ran towards the nearest Landing Zone. Here's the kicker: once the helicopter has arrived, you can just position yourself under it and BAM, you've just completed the mission. Actually surprised me that it was that simple.

And I ended up with a "B" ranking, no-less.

Finished and restarted so I can go for a full clear
Didn't want to have to do the last 40% without Quiet..So I'll be using the butterfly emblem, get everything but those 2 side ops done, backup my save, get 100%, store a SS, then get her back.

This is my first Metal Gear game and I have a couple of questions. I am on the first mission after the prologue.
1) Do you get a more durable suppressor ? The one on my rifle broke.
1A) How can you tell how damaged the suppressor is ? Is there a damage indicator for it or something ?
2) How does the tranquilizer gun work ? Do the darts take a few minutes to take effect and knock someone out ? Do I need to shoot the enemy in a specific body part ? Also is one dart sufficient to knock someone out ?

Here's hoping. I find it universally stupid that in a game that allows you to go back and play earlier missions whenever you want that you can permanently lose a buddy.

You do get better supressors, but for the first half of the game or so you'll just be calling in supply drops to get a new one.

There's a bar in the bottom left of your weapon icon, that's durability.

Darts depend on where you hit them, 1 in the head = zzz, 1 anywhere else takes a few seconds, or you can keep shooting them (say in the legs for armoured enemies) and they'll go down right after the 3rd shot.

Holy fuck. 27 hours and only 16% completion. I really take my time with Side-Ops though. I tend to exhaust that list and then do the main Missions.

Just finished Mission 11
and got Quiet finally. The boss battle was super easy if you use the drug that marks nearby targets for you because you'll never have to mark her again manually. Also, if you have the non-lethal assault rifle that's capable of stunning targets, it makes quick work of that fight. It was no The End, but it was a decent sniper boss battle.

A hilarious thing that happened during that fight: I tried to toss a smoke grenade from cover and she shot it out of the air -- it landed right back at my feet. When the smoke finally dissipated, I baited her shot by peeking out of cover just long enough for her to shoot, then I ducked back in. While she was reloading I tossed a smoke to move. Worked like a charm. I wonder if anyone has tried holding her up? I'm guessing it's not possible, but I'd love to see someone attempt it!

Well the game has become increasingly annoying and unfun to play so I dunno how far I will push into chapter 2. What a shame. Shoddy open world design is going to kill this for me.

1. Eventually. I haven't seen it yet, but it's clearly there. (There's 3 levels of suppressors.)
1A. There's a bar near where your ammo is shown. It will decrease with each shot until it breaks. They can be repaired in-mission by calling for supplies, though that costs GMP.
2. A tranq headshot knocks them out instantly; legs, arms, or body shots take more time. Multiple tranqs will speed up the effect. Missing with a tranq will not instantly alert enemies--as long as it's silenced.

Good luck, Boss.

1) After grinding for upgrades, you can develop guns with built-in Infinite suppressors. BUT, don't expect this to occur until way later in the game, based on Mother Base staff acquisition.

1A) On the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, the box that shows your currently equipped weapon has a meter below the weapon's illustration that shows your suppresor's durability.

2) Headshots are key, as they knock anyone out instantly. Body shots are a little longer, everything else is meh. Also, after developing tranqs twice (I think; I could be wrong), you can effectively tranq an enemy with three shots, assuming you can't get them in the head.

Regarding Quiet
how do I prevent her from leaving forever and does preventing her from leaving lock me out of a story mission? I just finished mission 28

Tranqs can get stupid powerful. I think my sniper now knocks them out after about a second even with an arm shot.

Put a butterfly in your emblem and yes, locks you out of a story mission.

So when you buy the coins DLC, do you actually download it or is it applied when you return to the game? Basically I have no idea how to use these Mother Base coins.

So after I'm done using her then, will the game let me remove the emblem so that she will leave and unlock that story mission?

Wow, Quiet is OP as fuck, what the hell? She's like easy mode, just use "cover me" and she clears an entire guard post in seconds. She's not even fully upgraded yet (I just got her actually), while DD & D-horse are at max bond.

While DD can be useful in certain situations, you'd have to be insane to take D-horse with you instead of quiet, unless something changes dramatically later (I just finished mission
13
)

I haven't tried D-
Walker
yet.

You can drop in on D-horse, then when you get to the mission area switch to Quiet by directly dropping her at the scout point.

This is by far the easiest Metal Gear Solid game I've played, which is strange because the default difficulty is normal and not easy, right?

Even the weapons mostly felt pointless, besides buying a grenade launcher and rocket launcher to take down vehicles I completed the rest of the game with the two guns the game started me with.

Here's hoping. I find it universally stupid that in a game that allows you to go back and play earlier missions whenever you want that you can permanently lose a buddy.

This is the quote from the guide.

Unlike other Buddies, Quiet will eventually leave once you reach a very late stage in the main storyline. This is the result of a chain of events that is set in motion once you complete mission 41. If your Bond with Quiet is at maximum level, Quiet will disappear at some point after you finish Mission 43. This development unlocks side ops 150, where you are tasked to find her. The moment you complete this side op, Mission 45 - the denouement of Quiet's storyline - is triggered automatically.

As Quiet is such a powerful ally, you will be glad to know that there are ways to delay her departure in order to call upon her services to complete earlier missions with S ranks, or to fulfill demanding Mission Tasks. The first is to artificially keep your Bond with her safely below 100%, but this is an unwieldy solution. The second trick is to use the "Butterfly (front)" design in your emblem, which will "lock" the final stages of Quiet's tale while it's still in place.

It's fun to experiment with different weapons and play styles. I just did an "extract X" side-op by first blowing up an anti-air radar with C4 to draw people out from the interior and then I went loud for the first time ever, using a sniper rifle from a distance. It was fun to watch the enemies run for cover and try to use binoculars to spot me. They also sent up flares to light up my suspect position and then hit it with mortar fire.

One of the coolest things about stealth games, especially ones without hard fail states upon detection, is that you get to see all the neat combat behaviours that the AI have.

It definitely keeps things interesting by experimenting, IMO.

I also recently had a "neutralize the heavy X" side-op and I called in a mortar strike and the mission was over in 5 seconds. Hah.

A question regarding a location that was showed off in one of the gameplay videos (E3 2014 I THINK)

is that cool looking villa even in the game?!

Yup, water pistol only runs are fun as hell if you want a challenge.

I can't remember that specific video, but there is a cool villa later on

Oh my god I have this one random solider who is just straight up better than snake in every relevant combat stat.

I'm so pumped to field her on every mission.

She can tranq everyone for you without doing anything. I found it boring to use her after a while, so I just got her bond up and stopped using her.

Might use D Walker a lot more now I've got some scouting upgrades available.

The stats don't do anything I don't believe, other than the skill.

Rocket fist is too OP for guys in full armor so I can't not use Snake annoyingly
