MGSV: The Phantom Pain has shipped 3 million units worldwide

Just picked it up a couple days ago. It's an amazing game.

And I love how Kojima's name is all over it. Konami may be able to take it off of the box and off advertising, but they can't remove it from the game itself, and that's what matters.

Bravo.

The Steamspy numbers are still jumping up around 50-100k per day. I wonder if they are still not accurate.

Considering the total shipped, I'd imagine they are nearing the correct number considering the amount of total platforms.

After spending 50 hours with it, I can say it deserves every sale it gets and then some. It's a craft of geniune passion and dedication. Games like this are what raises the bar and sets higher standards for the medium.

Steam Stats for today are showing a peak of almost 100,000 concurrent players. That is impressive.

I doubt Konami is regreting moving up the PC launch date.

Has shipped ever counted digital? I impulse bought this staring at the PSN store and damn what a beautiful game. Would love a nice TPS open world co-op shooter(non stealth) where everyone fights there way in an epic gun fight to get to the chopper.

Just calling in a support chopper to run to the LZ is so memorable when you have tons of guys gunning for you

I really want to get this for PC but the Australian price is absolutely criminal with our land tax and crap dollar. Are there any decent deals or should I just wait a month or so? Probably best for my uni work if I wait but at the same time I don't want to miss out on online.

That should be enough to make the game profitable, no? Why was Konami freaking out over the budget? Granted some quick and dirty math shows that it cut close to just breaking even, but still
I don't know about the budget of the game, but if it only breaks even it's not a very good investment. The more a company invests money on something, the more they expect to get from it. Simply being profitable doesn't mean much.

Just saying that as a general statement. It'll continue to sell obviously, though games generally have a tendency to be rather front loaded.

Can't wait for Tom Clancy's Wildlands.

it looks like that pc numbers is more important than anything else ...
pc is the only thing that matter on gaf ?

It'll probably shock you even more that no Metal Gear title has ever sold more than 8 million.

Not really. MGS , while it's very popular. It still target a very specific audience. Just like RE. Only people who like this type of game will buy it. It is not universally appeal to broader audience, like GTA or others. So it's sale number is understandable.

I wonder if the open world approach will result in more sales. It seems to be what the cool kids like at the moment and to be fair, it is one of the better open world gameplay experiences out there.

It's an absolutely horrible open world experience. It's a great gameplay sandbox, but NONE of that happens in the open world.

Not a bad start for it's 1st week on sale. I'm sure it will sell quite a bit more too. Awesome game, I'm hooked, played it all weekend for about 10 hours and only 3% complete, just keep finding random stuff to do and explore between the 1st few missions, and only just unlocked base building.

Steam is not going to even count for half of MGSV's sales.

So ? I mean, there's like 5 platforms in which the game is getting released. What you're saying has nothing to do with what you quoted.

The game is approaching 500k on Steam... considering the higher revenue for digital copies, I doubt they regret their move considering they sold a lot of full price copies. Just remember that a digital copy is worth, at the same price, more than two times the revenue of a physical one.

who cares ? MGS fanbase is mostly on playstation

You're complaining about people talking about PC numbers... which is because its the only accurate numbers we have for now.

Then answer who cares ? Why do you even ask in the first place ? If you want to play kiddy console war, you're in the wrong place, sir.

That's it? I really thought it was bigger then that.

Yeh, series has been slipping last few years + Fifa sells over 10m with each installment. In fact waaay over 10m. Closer to 15m now.

I love it. Driving around in my jeep, taking over every outpost I see while Kids in America is blaring.

Then again, my favourite place to explore before this was Fallout 3, which apparently makes me weird.

Hoping to see a slight bump on this chart next year with PES improving and FIFA going downhill in the 2015 editions released last year. Not holding my breath though since all I ever see is complaining about licenses now.

Well deserved IMO although I nowadays hate Konami.
The press hype and media coverage was there, so I guess a lot of money into marketing

Even when PES was vastly superior to FIFA, it still sold significantly less. It has always maintained a small but loyal fanbase, its getting back to its best nowadays as well.

well so far I'm more interested about ps3 or xbox one numbers

Yeah, the worst part is that PES now has a reputation because if you look at where the bump is for FY 2008, that game was horrible that year so a lot of people exposed to it might still look at it in that way. They were just lucky that FIFA had been sucking even longer at that point.

Yea I think people expected something special that year, what with the move to the new consoles and how good the previous few had been. That was probably the single biggest drop in quality I have ever seen in a series (and I'm including DMC 2 and RE6 in that) They should have just put a new lick of paint on PES 6 and updated the roster.

That wouldn't have been wise because that was around the time EA finally pulled their finger out of their ass and started making football games that didn't make PES the best by default.

As much as I don't really care for Konami, the game deserves every sale it can get. It feels like a true labour of love, an incredible way for Kojima and his team at KojiPro to bow out.
