Spectre theme song hitting Tuesday

I understand why people want Adele again, but that would be so boring. There has never been one musician to do two bond movies, why would that change now?

With that being said, I'm alright with Ellie Goulding, but Sam Smith, Lana Del Rey, or tons others would be cool too. Some people have suggested some great ones like Father John Misty. I would like to hear Chet Faker do one. Adele had her shot and it left a mark bigger than a lot others.

People have mentioned Shirley Bassey at least three times already.

Goldfinger
Diamonds are Forever
Moonraker.

It's not "boring" to want someone who is good at making Bond Themes to continue making Bond Themes, anymore than it's boring to have someone who is good at making Bond Movies to keep making Bond Movies.

This is one of those "tradition" things that isn't as "traditional" as it seems on first glance.

At first I thought it was a gimmick for "Lights", but then I kept listening to more of her music, and that's actually her voice.

I think her voice is fucking great.

She doesn't have the most powerful set of pipes in the world, but she's done a fantastic job shaping her music around her unique voice.

The problem with Goulding would be the same problem with Sheryl Crow, or Madonna, or Little Lulu: She can't go big.

Bond Themes almost always necessitate you go big at some point. And if you try to go big and your voice just can't do it, it comes off strained and annoying.

It depends. Paul McCartney wasn't exactly straining himself on Live and Let Die, but it was still a fucking great Bond theme. My favorite, actually.

If they go in that direction - something fast-paced and dangerous-sounding - Goulding could easily pull it off.

Skyfall was the 50th anniversary film, there was lots going on.

True, but given how it was also far and away the biggest success in the franchise you would think they'd nurture that flame and try to keep it in the public mindshare so they can break another billion.

Nah, he went for it on the reggae bridge. And yeah, the song was appropriately huge - he was smart in making sure that most of the time, the band was carrying that weight so he wouldn't have to get all Helter Skelter with the screaming. Question is whether whoever it is Goulding's working with is gonna be that smart, or if they're gonna try to have her go big along with the song, which will fuck her over, because she simply doesn't have the range.

I really can't see Goulding doing a song that she can't vocally handle. She's not Taylor Swift, who writes songs she's not capable of singing. She clearly knows the limits of her voice and keeps it in check. I would imagine that she was probably deeply involved in the songwriting process. I doubt she just walked into the studio and was handed a song.

It could end up being a very un-Bond theme, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not every experimental Bond theme has to be a dumpster fire like "Another Way to Die" or "Die Another Day."

Sheryl Crow did great with Tomorrow Never Dies.
I'm all for Ellie Goulding doing the next one.

But no matter who it'll be, I'm super excited about the title song!

Watch it be all 3, Radiohead, Sam Smith, and Ellie Goulding
Considering Quantum of Solace was fucking Jack White and Alicia Keys, everything is up for grabs

Quote from another thread:

Bond theme should have been Conchita.
She has the looks, she can perform live, she even made a unofficial Bond theme already with Rise Like a Phoenix.

I'm okay with Sam, tho. Sam >>>>>>> Goulding.
Here is hope for some Latch chorus vocal goodness from him in this track.

If they can work "moonraker" into a song, they can work spectre into a song.
True, but Moonraker is one of the worst Bond songs, imo.

How is that hard? A Spectre is ghost. That isn't too hard to write a song around.
I don't mean thematically, I mean in terms of the actual sound of the word and its limited rhyming/scanning potential.

To be fair, Craig's Bond hasn't really forced the title into the theme song.

I think Skyfall is the only one.
Indeed, the Something of Boris was particularly problematic.

Dat Thunderball theme.

if you were exposed to pop at any time in the last 2 years then probably.

Sam Smith is super lame. Least talented Singer in the new Bond era for sure if true.
I'm not a sam smith fan at all but this isn't true at all. He's got a great voice. Far better singer than Jack White.

Sam Smith is signed to Capitol, which is owned by UMG. They also own Decca Records, of which the SPECTRE soundtrack will be released on.

So yeah, it's him.

bugger

i meant overall talent. Should've written musician not singer.
I guess that's fair. But still other people probably wrote it and stuff. So it'll probably be passable at least. I'm not excited by it the way I would if it was someone like radiohead or the weeknd (I think I've said in another thread that earned it is my favorite bond theme that's not a bond theme), but I'm also not fearful, you know?

Give me something on par with You Know My Name and we'll be all good. But if Sam Smith's doing it, I don't have much hope for that.

Yep, no singer has recorded two consecutive Bond themes and it should probably stay that way. Bring back Adele for the 27th installment or something.
