Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX |OT| .feat PuyoPuyo

Gitaroo-man is a pretty good comparison actually. It is much like combining the attack and defense phases.

EBA/OTO being tap only makes it harder to compare though.

Each song is scored on a 1-10 difficulty curve with 5 being average. Easy is 1-4, Normal is 4-7, and Hard is 7-10
Honestly I find you should pass anything 6 or below with no trouble. Hard is where the game kicks it up.

As long as there are a good number of hard "Hard" songs, I'll be content. Thanks!

3. More Than A Rhythm Game
While I know a lot of players will come for specifically the rhythm game, Project Mirai DX is a little microcosm of a world at your finger tips if you take the time to see it. The level of detail of the characters and their actions, the easter eggs, hidden events, the deeeeeeep unlockables, the mini games, the StreetPass stuff. There’s so much else in this game, but you really have to put some time into it to get the most out of it. Out of all the reviews I’ve read so far, no one barely cuts below the surface on the secondary and tertiary stuff in this game. If you just play the rhythm game and unlock every hard song and stop, you’ve probably only seen and experienced about 20% of the game’s content. Even if you were to perfect every song, mode, and difficulty on your first play, that's 288 plays (and then some)! There is soooo much game here.

This. I feel the presentation goes far beyond what you'd expect as well -- the menu and interface design is miles ahead of the Diva games, for example, which really surprised me (though I appreciate that the Diva games need to retain close ties to Diva Arcade).

It's also something a lot of people overlook since it might not be integral to a rhythm game. But given the amount of time you will spend outside of playing the core game, I feel having menus which fill you with joy every time you use them (I really like the physics-based animations) goes a long way towards making a game feel even more special.

And the StreetPass/SpotPass integration is probably on par with Shovel Knight in terms of how well implemented it is, at least based on my experiences with Mirai 2. It's just one of those games with so much to appreciate.

Anyone on here use HomePass? Probably the main way I exchange Streetpass stuff these days.

The game supports SpotPass for StreetPass-like activities like Bravely Default's upload/download feature on the save menu, only it's automatic. So if you've got a friend on your 3DS friends list with the game you'll trade data where necessary.

Whoa, you guys. After playing Mirai for the past couple of weeks, I tried playing some DIVA today and... I can't believe how comparatively unappealing and bland "regular" Miku is to me from a visual standpoint. It feels like she and the other Vocaloids were always meant to be chibi. I just can't see them any other way now.

Also this is easily my new favorite Miku song, like oh my god:
http://youtu.be/enmh2bR5cAE

This is how I feel, though I prefer Diva's rhythm gameplay. It ties in to what I wrote above about the game's UI and menu design, it gives it a much more charming and polished feel than the Diva series' sterile, purely functional menus and interface.

Edit: oops, I misread that as you talking about the general "feel" of the Diva games, not the characters. Though I'm inclined to agree that the nendoroid-esque characters in Mirai are much more expressive despite being featured in less lavish backdrops and setups.

No problem. Yeah some of the Level 8 Hard songs I struggled to finish.
Think only 6 songs are rated 10 though and are classified "Super Hard'. All 48 songs have a level 7 or more though luckily. Plus tap and buttons count separate, so you can have 6 ways you can beat a song, but Hard only unlocks after Normal. So most likely if you are good at rhythm games, you have to accept Normal's fair difficulty during the first run.

So we're going to have to have everyone trade FCs in this thread then?

It's not super important, but that video is an edit. Modules in Arcade work as they do in the console versions.

I realize that the vid is likely a demo mode playback edit as opposed to normal gameplay*, but seeing as how I can't play the Arcade version, when I look up tracks on Youtube I almost always prefer these Arcade ones.

*(Unless that weird hacked together PC version let's you use those vids for the gameplay anyway.)

I had just finished reviewing the game. This is my very first video review. All of the gameplay footage is from me. Can you guys please offer up some constructive criticism for me? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks bunches!

Enjoyed the review. Thanks for doing that. The only criticism I might have is that you talked about quite a few features that you did not show including the bottom screen stuff. As a visual person I really would have enjoyed the inclusion of those items to go along with what you were discussing. Still, I learned a lot and as a fan of the series am excited for what I see.

Hey guys,

Sam Mullen here, Localization Producer for Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX and the Project DIVA series. I just wanted to stick my head in and say thanks to you all for your interest and hype about Project Mirai DX. I’m so excited about this game coming out this week (mainly because I want StreetPasses for it!!!!)

Thanks for stopping in Sam and thanks for your hard work in localizing Project Mirai DX for us. I've got release day delivery through Amazon so hopefully my copy will be waiting on me when I get home from work today!

Are the charts different on tap and buttons? I don't really love the tap thing, but if the charts are different...

Is there any chance of DLC? No Summer Idol = sad.

I'm having some trouble adjusting to the buttons coming from the Diva games. I keep hitting B instead of X... so frustrating. haha
I guess I should try the touch mode.

Does anyone have this as well as Mirai 2?

I'm still on the fence about getting DX, mainly because of the seeming lack of new content. DX has always seemed like a great way to release this game internationally, and I really appreciate that it's been brought here and is on store shelves as well, but I'm a bit tight on funds right now.

Try changing the button prompts to arrows if you're not overlay familiar with the ABXY layout. You'll get used to it in time, mind -- I'm familiar now and I regularly switch between Nintendo and Sega/Microsoft ABXY layouts.

Can't tell if sarcasm or not ;)

Yeah, the charts are different because tap is less button prompts with 1 for easy and 3 for hard, and instead of button and direction you swipe a direction.
The main reason why you may want taps is because it unlocks singers. 1925 has 6 singers I think.

This is also the first Miku game where you can replace the singer with a new vocaloid if you didn't know that. I wish all songs had the option, but guess it would be too hard to program.

As comparing this to 2, I think the main differences is 2-3 new songs and all PVs are models instead of the few that had videos. Plus the button colors now match the new 3DS colors.
Wonder if Sega knew the regular 3DS was coming because they match the regular 3DS buttons.

Should be waiting for me when I get off work. First Mirai game for me.

Looking forward to playing several songs for the first time, should make the wait for X easier.

Are the videos available for this as an option too? Or were they replaced completely?

Thanks! I noticed the demo was New 3DS enhanced (you get antialiasing in 3D mode for the room areas and faster loading times), so I'm guessing Sega had New 3DS dev kits for this game?

I'll probably pass for now until I have more money to spare. I'd happy buy it, but I was hoping for more song content and perhaps a fourth difficulty setting for every song to make it *essential*

I thought I knew my button layout but playing the demo has me questioning my reality. But hey that's ok, i'll git gud at my own pace :D

Just a heads up for people that haven't played it, you get a top, middle, and bottom path which unlocks a set of songs. I think the middle has the best ones, so I suggest starting there. Reverse Rainbow and 1925 are part of the middle songs.

Yeah, I think DX was made specifically for the new 3DS like Monster Hunter 4. I am going to buy it and play it on the old one until Sept. 25th, so I will see if there if it is slower.

I despise you people - I wasn't going to get any more games this month, yet I'm sitting here at lunch with the game in the bag. Curses.

It's pretty exciting to hear how much there is to discover in the game. I love stuff like that. Although, puyo puyo is prob what threw it over the top ...

Thanks for all the info.

Bought! My 64 gig card gets so much love. Download is taking forever, but that means I'll have something to look forward to after work! The Hard songs are fun from the demo. My head gets all screwed up when the second row shows up. I'm trying to get used to alternating pad with arrows to do fast streams better, but once the second row shows up my wires cross ha.

My tracking info still hadn't updated. Not sure when I'll get my game. I'm seriously considering just downloading it from the e-shop. I probably will actually, this is one of those games I am going to want on my system at all times.

Can anyone confirm if in the full game you can have the vocal track mute on missed button presses (you can in the Diva games)?

I always thought this made the game feel closer to the "beat syncing" of a DJMax or EZ2DJ game.

Guessing no one's received any shipping updates from Rice? My order's status hasn't changed yet. I know the game isn't out until friday, but I'd expect stuff to get moving fairly soon. For those of you who've used Rice before, roughly how many days before release do they dispatch your order?

My two other pre-orders with them shipped three days before release.

This releases in... three days.

Nope, the songs just goes on. I like this game, I really do, but the 3DS buttons are placed too asymmetrical for me who is used to the playstation controller. Especially for dual wield.

And I always struggle with X/Y/B placement which makes most songs too hard for me while I breeze through Extreme on Diva pretty easily :(

But I love this game, it has so much polish. Much more than the Diva series. The thing is though, the songs are too long.

Look what I got~!

Let's kick this pig.

But first! Goodies!

I was impressed with the wallet chain; I thought it would be plastic, so to see it was cloth was a pleasant surprise. Very nice.

I was not expecting this many AR Cards. All double-sided, all adorable. Numbered too. Thanks, SEGA. Awesomeness.

Now to spend a day playing this game.

Change the buttons to show only up, down, left and right. Made my life much easier.

EDIT:

Now to spend months playing this game.

Fixed that for you

Accurate, yes, but it'll be split with a certain other rhythm game also coming out this month.

Something surprising yet disappointing: Whatever you're wearing does not affect the in-game image. Like, you don't have to change your costume to match the song. The costume is already there in full view when you play. I'm saddened by this; one my favorite things to do in PD was play a song once on Normal with the default clothes, unlock the costume, then go buy it so I could change into it and play the song again on Hard.

Do you know if the 3DS home menu theme for this game will be available in Europe?

A bit confused here, do you mean changing the character outfit in the songs?

UUGGGHHHH, I'm just about to leave to go into town to pick my copy up, but then it starts pouring outside, & I'd rather not drive in solid rain barely able to see.

Hopefully it clears in the next hour.

Song-specific outfits are already unlocked and pre-selected for the appropriate songs. You don't have to unlock and change to them anymore like in Project Diva.

Eh, I'm fine with that. Most of the time I only bought outfits I liked the look of rather than buying song-specific outfits, so having them available from the start is alright with me.

Really enjoying this so far. Always liked the Chibi versions more than the regular one, glad to finally have this. The extras were nice, and way more cards than expected.

Too many things to do in the game. So worth the wait! :p
