Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

God this is the problem with MMO like things. You leave and tonnes of things have changed and you get lost D:

I'm thinking of picking up TTK since I realised I have Xbox credit and wouldn't mind hopping back in. The last time I played was before any expansion hit so I'm a bit like.. wha?

What're legendary marks? Is it worth playing through the expansions content? What can I do with all my current level 20 Exotics that I spent an age acquiring that're now useless? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Nathan Fillion is great in this. <3

Like I've been saying... we needed to wait for the new writing in TTK before we can properly judge his performance. He is absolutely great.

They should have, however, re-wrote a lot of the lines in the early missions, added extra dialogue from the other characters, added scanning of old points of interest, etc.

The presentation of the new missions with all the dialogue is so great, that replaying the old missions afterwards will be a sad affair...

you don't "collect" digital content. It is a misnomer. Collector's editions are for people who want physical trinkets and special cases, etc. This is just cosmetic stuff they are holding behind a paywall for no reason.
So from now on we should refer to it as "the SKU misleadingly titled Collector's Edition in the store" whenever we answer a question about it?

It's optional cosmetic stuff available for people who want it. Like literally anything anyone had ever bought or sold, ever, it's a voluntary transaction between informed and consenting economic agents in a free market. The buy or no buy decision responds to each agent's expected subjective value as measured against the asking price.

The "DLC is greedy" thing runs rampant in the gaming community but makes absolutely zero sense if you understand the basic notions of business and economics. Like, I didn't buy it but this whole "paywall for no reason" thing just ignores the very nature of how business works.

Does anyone know if level 30 is too high to go back and play all of the Year 1 DLC or does it scale to your level?

I've only got like halfway into the story but man, what a great expansion. It really takes the best parts of the Vanilla game and improves on them.

The missions are more varied and all have a great structure so far. The storytelling has also improved even if it's still barebones. But it gives enough context to your actions and the characters are actually fleshed out now. Bungie has a great universe here and it's awesome to see them take advantage of it.

I'm also full of stuff to do. Even without finishing the story I already have tons of quests and I know more are coming with the Taken Wars. I'm also almost level 40 which is the part where I can use all the higher level gear so that's great.

The climb to level 40 might be short but the end game seems way more focused and interesting than before.

Jesus after finishing the main story missions so much opens up.

Really?? I don't want spoilers, but I want to ask so bad...

I hope I get a lot of time to play this tonight!!! But getting through the new story in only 1 day would feel like such a waste... I don't want to have waited for this DLC just to be done with it in a week like all the rest...

Yeah it's actually pretty overwhelming but there's one mission in particular I know I'm going straight to when I get back on. Of course I finish the story just as I have to go to work >___>

Anyone else happy Oryx and some underlings speak English? Makes them far more menacing and interesting then if they merely made grunting and screeching noises. It also gives a sort of intelligence behind the insanity.

All about Light Level. I ran last weeks Nightfall with my new 28 Titan wearing my old 34 Titan's gear and was just as strong as an old 34 (Light level 164ish). That being said, low level enemies will always be able to kill you if you're not careful.

Dipping my toes in here. Hi everyone!

New or extremely puzzled returning players, feel free to PM me with questions if you feel like the thread's moving too fast or your post got buried. :)

Being "overleveled" never really helps you in Destiny. Much more important will be your weapons' Attack and armor's Defense ratings, which will continue to provide advantages when you upgrade them vs. being a higher level. Anyway the rewards certainly won't scale (other than providing relevant XP), but play the missions on Hard and they're be reasonably challenging and so forth regardless.
Everyone seemed to have gotten a guaranteed exotic.
Guaranteed Year 1 exotic that is, of course. From the sound of things anyway.

Been wondering... Do the Awoken of Earth feel like a comradely with the Awoken of the reef? Or do the Awoken of Earth not consider themselves part of that "group".

If that all makes sense. Cause from what we have seen, the Awoken are the only ones with a one species faction. There's no only human or robot groups.

So jelly of everyone that has gotten to play. :(

Man... between House of Wolves and The Taken King, the Fallen really get the short end of the stick... lol

Thanks for that. I played the game for hundreds of hours and didn't know about 80% of the story in the video.

I really enjoy this series of videos too... which go into more detail of the 3 main story plots individually, and give them a more "epic" feel... while the narrator isn't poking fun at Destiny at times, which is difficult not to do...

Hey guys, I have a buddy who bought the legendary edition, and he put his vouchers in okay and everything went okay last night. But, this morning, the PS4 was saying he doesn't own TTK, and wont let him access anything.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Would it be a simple fix like restoring licenses?

Well, I'm miffed. I only own the base game right now, and I booted up Destiny a few minutes ago to find some unwelcome changes. So, firstly, all the original crucible game modes have been locked out, like control and relic, because they now require the Taken King to play. This would make sense to me if it was just the new game modes introduced with the latest update, but to lock all of the game modes behind the expansion seems shifty as hell. Of course, that's not to say I can't play the crucible at all, since there are three legacy playlists (6v6, 3v3 and free-for-all) but this still means that I cannot progress with Lord Shaxx's crucible questline because it requires me to play a game of control, which I can no longer access.

The vanguard playlists seem to have been affected similarly - the only one available to me right now is a level 20 legacy playlist, which is useless to me at level 34, and especially annoying because the higher level vanguard playlists from before no longer exist - or at least can no longer be accessed without the expansion. Legendary Marks are a problem for me as well, because from what I gather they can only be gained via non-legacy vanguard playlists or the daily heroic missions, which today is a Taken King mission, and will presumably be missions from the expansion for the near future. This means I can't buy vendor gear anymore because I can't get the currency, so I can't make any meaningful improvements to my character.

There doesn't seem to be much of a reason to play right now unless you've bought the expansion. I get that there needs to be an incentive for existing players to purchase it, but gating off modes and content that I used to be able to access is just making me less inclined to do so - what if the same thing happens in a year's time? At the moment it feels like you either need to cough up £80 for all the expansions, buy the legendary edition, or just stop playing.

probably not, the awoken of earth are just dead awoken that have been revived as guardians. Its why the REEF doesn't really even acknowledge them.

I'm praying this hasn't been answered a ton already, but is the $20 shader/emotes add-on up yet for PS4? Can't find it, not sure if I have to wait for the store update...
