Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Thanks! One more question what are they purchased with Glimmer or Legendary Marks, or something else?

Haven't gotten to play yet
You know, that's a good question. When I played this morning I didn't even look at what it took to buy them. I would imagine marks as well, but maybe someone here that is currently in game can take a quick look to confirm.

It's an entirely new weapon, separate from the year one version. If you have the year one version, then you already have the year two version unlocked for purchase at the Exotic Weapons kiosk in the Vanguard area of the tower. But it'll cost you a bunch of Legendary Marks so it will be awhile until you can purchase it.

Roger, thanks.

so how good have the story missions been for those who have played them? Just the tidbit of the first one I saw looked fantastic(I stopped watching due to not spoiling it), please tell me they are all just as engaging and good.

Don't ruin them, just inform me how good they are.

Also how have the cut scenes been?

Funny and really well done :)

the missions are astonishingly varied and you are actively contributing to the furthering of the plot with every objective. They also explore new areas, and not just new for the sake of new, they introduce new game mechanics and challenges throughout

the cutscenes take the fairly lifeless world you've lived in for the past year and without drastically changing any of the characs or adding a bunch of new ones, bring them completely to life. you look at all these areas of the tower you've wandered through and dodged zombie npcs in and are like "OH MY GOD THEY LIVE HERE"

It's amazing

gggaaaaaahhhhhhh, damn it!

I'm on lunch break and have to deal with 3 more hours of work....its going to be a long ass 3 hours, fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it seems you are guaranteed legendary gear from ranking up factions. I ranked up Crucible, Vanguard and Future War Cult just using the commendations I got from the old marks, and already got three lvl 40 legendaries without even leaving the Tower.

The vendor gear has better base stats though.

This makes sense to me. It makes buying something in the tower a little more special. Something to work towards, get, be a little excited about. Before I had so many marks that I would buy crap I didn't want or need just to use them. I think this will turn out ok for my play style.

My 5 hour in review so far.

HUGE step up from Bungie. The story is better, they present the story better, and they tell it across a much better set of Campaign missions.

I'm super impressed thus far.

Nope, not yet. I've been F5ing all day. I mean, Command+R because I'm on a Mac.

I tried to warn people about this earlier in the thread. That option was digital only and had to be purchased through Destiny as a $60 digital bundle with standalone Taken King.

Is the option to buy the expansion by itself available yet on 360? My brother has all the content already and wants to purchase just TTK $40 expansion. Yet, it doesn't appear online, nor does the Destiny website show anything. It's currently unavailable.

Can one start the new campaign missions without having played through the Year 1 story? I was just on my Hunter last night after a fairly long hiatus and replaying those missions was a bloody chore.

Just buckled ang got this after not playing since December. Best change so far, the reduced time you need to hold the button to interact.

Something is up with the 360 version... but they say you can get it from the in-game prompt to upgrade even though it's unavailable in the marketplace.

As long as your character is at least level 25.

It's intended for you to be level 25 with all the gear they give you, and not even have a super?

I read before launch it'd max one subclass.

Level 25 opens the new subclass, so I would just use that. All of us at level 34 started with a completely empty third subclass. You'll have plenty of time and opportunity to level up the other two subclasses down the line.

Soooooooo... the consensus so far seems to be that it's a big step up from Bungie, and that it fixes a lot of the complaints of the original game?

I have 2 34's, have played plenty of Destiny. Starting a character at 25 with no maxed subclass is useless because you can't jump into higher level content without a massive disadvantage. You have to grind so much that you might as well start at 1.

The difference between this and the 34 getting a new subclass is that those 34s can switch to a maxed class if the situation requires.

Any statement addressing the level 25 boost not giving any XP to either of your subclasses?

Definitely intended, not like when you unlock your third one that it's leveled up in any way either.
Yeah, the way I see is it's just to allow any new players to play TTK content with your buddies that might be a higher level than you right away. The person using the spark would still be required to play through the story missions if they want to maximize on the XP available to level up their subclass.

Starting at 25 would allow you to equip better gear though, even Year One legendary or Exotics right away, if you had any stored. Your light level would be way higher than what you would start with if you were level one. The subclass grind, thats definitely there.

I'm gonna reset both my Warlock and Hunter. Kinda disappointed the subclass doesn't level up but there's so much opportunity for XP with missions, bounties, and quests that it shouldn't feel so tedious as it once did.

so some majors don't give glimmer anymore?

also, the return to the
vault of glass
was actually pretty challenging!

They are pretty good. Bog standard but remember Destiny was terrible before. ITs like getting a Big Mac after buying a Big Mac, but last time someone handed you a ketchup packet and expected you to be happy.

The story missions are pretty good, lots of bog standard stuff, a few cutscenes but not many at all, tons of repetition with lots of repeated locations both new and old. But enjoyable for the most part.

The hard thing is to remember what a NORMAL game offers versus Taken King because frankly many parts of Destiny 1.0 were shit and things done even in an acceptable manner will feel great.

Here's a video I found related to the legendary sword quest and other Dreadnaught adventures.

Watch at your own risk if you don't want to be spoiled on discovering some of this stuff (although some has been covered before by Bungie).

We explore Destiny's new area, the Dreadnought and shine a little light on some of it's secrets - including a legendary sword quest, locked chests, Calcified Fragments and the Court of Oryx.

Hopped into half of a Rumble match before work and got Omega Rekt by two Univseral Remote users. The range on that thing is more ridiculous than any Shot Package Shotty I've dealt with so far.

Does the game actually explain what's going on and the history of the lore? (Maybe what "the darkness is)". I really tried to like Destiny but I wanted an engaging universe with cool backstory. That's all it will take to get me back in. I've been watching lore videos and that's been cool, but I want more of that in the game instead of grimoirs on their website.

I just finished mission 3. What's really struck me is how well paced they are. Most missions in the game to date have been drop in, and shoot your way to the end. Each one of these had long sections where I wasn't in combat. I was exploring, or platforming, or investigating areas and finding stuff that moved the story forward. The missions have breathing room now, and it's wonderful.
And you get a token that takes one character right to 25 for buying TTK, correct?

Correct. You'll get a Spark of Light that will level a new character to 25, and give them some decent starter gear. Just one per account, so other characters need to work through the campaign, but if you just want to have one jump in with the Taken King quests, you can.

I love how Bungie leaned into Eris being batshit crazy. I was hoping they would, but in the first 2 minutes of the first mission her relationship with Zavala is established, and it's hilarious.

This is such an upgrade over the base game that's kind of amazing.
