Yes, The End is amazing. I have a save file right before his battle on the "Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection" just so I can play it from time to time. I'll happily do it again if it comes out on the PS4 in some other kind of collection.

It's like Kojima peaked with "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" and everything else seems vaguely close or far distant by any kind of comparison.
Well, yeah. He lost Fukushima and then his attention on the game got split. He couldn't focus on the game part or the broad strokes because he had to focus on everything. There's also no longer anyone to tell him "No, the characters wouldn't do that" anymore.

I just realized that when you go see Paz she still looks like she is 16 years old despite being 34. What's the deal with this? Just Kojima being lazy for fan service?

I mean, she was in her twenties in Peace Walker/Ground Zeroes. She's just petite
and designed to pander to lolicons in Japan
.

So, do you think the next game will explain the fire whale at the beginning of the game being born due to psycho-nano-parasites?

But then reveal that it was all just hypnosis?

She's not 34. She's 25.

Obviously she is also for fanservice but its also viable for 25 year olds to look younger than they are. 20-somethings play high scool girls in movies all the time.

TPP felt like a lot of pieces of a MGS game, but they were not structured like an MGS game.

Jeff Gerstmann made a good point about how tapes replacing codecs is totally fine, but tapes replacing what they would normally cover in cutscenes feels like a cut back. It's like MGSV is an over correction to the criticism MGS4 received.

I could have gone with a bit more structure, and a lot less filler.

Are the "hallucinations" posts serious?

She was born in 1950, TPP takes place in 1984. That's 34 years.

I have two theories on tapes. Could be both, really.

1) The cost of making next-gen cutscenes was way higher than Kojima anticipated. There was so much more work that had to be done, and be done in a way that is scalable to old systems, that he decided to leave a number of moments that could have been handled on-screen to the cassette tapes.

2) Getting Kiefer in for facial animation and lip syncing was expensive. He's credited for it, so I'm sure he came in to do it a few times, but there are so many scenes where it's clear he didn't. Lines while wearing a face mask, lines while wearing a gas mask, lines only from the first-person perspective, lines in cassette tapes, the amount of looking at Big Boss while he's speaking is shockingly low. Thus, Kojima made the call to make a lot of that off-screen.

Been thinking it over again and my opinion simply won't change on this game. It's a fantastic game, it just isn't a fantastic Metal Gear game.
.

Say say. Its gameplay is phenomenal but where is the story? Why do the regular missions feel like the side ops in Ground Zeroes? Why is there so little build-up to everything and why are most climaxes wasted on rushed cutscenes that barely last the minute? Why is pretty much every character in this game lacking of identity save Huey? Where did the excellent writing and direction of Ground Zeroes go? Why did Kojima feel it neccessary to make the player himself be Big Boss when MGS2 did the same and a thousand times better with a twist that enrichened the story rather than cheapened it and trivialized the canon? Why are there so few memorable set pieces? Why does Mother Base feel empty? Why spoil every single cutscene of this game in the trailers, lessening the impact of seeing them in-game? Why do the tapes feel like cut dialouge from cutscenes rather than material that is supposed to enrichen the story?

So many questions, and so few of these will be answered. It's still the best game I've played in some years but it didn't take me on the same emotional rollercoaster the previous MGS games (including GZ) did. Perhaps the ambition of making an open-world game compromised on the ambition of making a Metal Gear.

I don't think you finished Paz's quest line. She wasn't there. It was Venom Snake rationalizing that the entire reason this happened is because he failed to find the bomb in her vagina. The last thing he saw was a girl with an open stomach exploding as he took the brunt of the hit for Big Boss.

Konami's youtube channel will be livestreaming from TGS, here is the schedule:

MGSV - 9/16 10:30pm - 11:20pm EST
MGO - 9/17 1:40am - 2:30am EST
MGSV - 9/17 10:30 - 11:20pm EST
MGO - 9/17 11:30pm to 12:10am EST

What. Does. It. Mean????

She isn't real in The Phantom Pain.

Yep. All a dream for fake snake

Wait, what!? When is this explained?

How do I finish the Paz quest line?

I just waltz into the second story room n the Medical platform and her, Ocelot, and Miller were there.

I hope they play Code Talker tapes.

You have to find all the memory stuff by doing the 10 missing solider side ops, then find the last photo or whatever outside her room. Then you get the conclusion.

Every Wandering Mother Base soldier mission ends with you getting a memento to show Paz. You can only show her one per visit to Mother Base for a maximum of ten mementos.

You need to collect all of the old Mother Base members and their photographs, plus the one in the hallway.

But the hallucination is of Paz as she was at the time of Ground Zeroes, many years earlier.

1 year after Peace Walker, the incident where she succesfully managed to fool an entire base into thinking she was a high school student.

But beyond that, it simply doesn't feel like Metal Gear Solid. I never expected this game to have a story that would put it on the same level as the best stories in the entire videogame industry. But I did expect a Metal Gear story. As silly and over-the-top they are, I loved every single MGS story

I feel the same way. There are glimpses of MGS in the game, mostly in gameplay now, and in some of the tapes (the Kaz Hamburger tapes is classic Metal Gear) but not necessarily in the actual plot. While I think there are some well done arcs in the game (Huey in particular) it doesn't live up to something like Big Boss obsessing over the pistol Eva gives him or the batshit insanity that is the entirety 2's ending stretch. It's missing a sense of personality that every other game in the series had.

And I'm wondering... what's the point of these animals other than getting some extra GMP and seeing them in the zoo? Nothing at all, which was terribly disappointing.

And I think that experience for me reflects upon many of MGSV's features together, which are interesting, but just feel very unfinished.

Exactly!

Just like Kojima's boasting about a certain "revolutionary" feature in MGSV:TPP: "People who own GZ will be able to play a different mission(s) at Camp Omega in TPP. That’s the current plan. There’s something of a big feature involved. It’s never been done in the games industry before. So I can’t go into detail about it, but I think when you experience it for yourselves you’ll be surprised. It’s something that’s only possible through video games.” - empty promises and PR bullshit.

I want what was promised to me to the letter - 100% - no cut content and nothing compromised.

Where is the Kojima that proudly stated he would risk everything for this game's content and development? Yet, there are cut ideas and scenes like the burning African village and child soldiers being trained.

*sigh* how hard is it to keep a basic promise anymore?!?

^It's a kojima game

it's in there

it has to be

;-;

Well, he or someone in-the-know needs to let us all in on some of this cut content and whether or not it is actually in the game or not. I don't see how, since there are some players out there with 100% game completion and no reports of this stuff actually being in the game after all.

This sucks.

Well, he did get fired over this game. What more did you want him to risk, jail time? It's obvious he went over the line and Konami stepped in on his parade. Nobody likes cut content. Least of all the person making it.

He did risk everything. He lost his job, his series, and his fans.

Things get cut from games and I think it's fine.

But it's also fine to call MGS5 fairly incomplete, because it is. Chapter 2 has no logical flow. Chapter 1 has an anti-climactic ending. Major plot points have no resolution and could be totally excised and not change the story at all.

It's hard to get too mad, because we know what was happening at Konami, and the fact that the gameplay was so good makes up for a lot. Then again, this was a poor ending for the series, a bad look for Kojima, and everyone here paid their $60 for different reasons.

I'm pretty sure when Kojima said this he was referring to what he was doing with the Venom Snake/Player Avatar twist. It's the only thing still in the game that really bares any resemblance to his comment, even if he was obviosly being hyperbolic about it. The original implementation probably had something to do with owning GZ and replaying the Ground Zeroes mission (where you see the Medic) rather than the Hospital replay, then they changed it to convenience those who didn't have GZ. Like how they show flashbacks to the scene and your avatar is the Medic's face instead.

If you stitch Mission 43, 45 and 46 together it would be a perfect explanation as to why Phantom Big Boss went berzerk and started the Outer Heaven uprising. The guy went through some serious shit.

I wish the experience wasn't so fragmented, because the impact is completely lost.
