That was it? I just got all of the photos for Paz and...really that's it? No cutscene showing what REALLY happened in that helicopter?

What really happened is what happened in GZ. The Medic/Venom's mind simply was trying to block out the guilt that he failed to find the second bomb, which caused the hallucination of the medical bay.

just finished. regular ending I'm assuming.

holy shit. grey fox/decoy octopus theories kind of spoiled it for me but the presentation still shocked me. I riked it. Lol it explains why Big Boss didn't have the scars/shrapnel in MGS4.

Bailing out now to try to get the true ending. lol

They rebuilt him from spare parts of a clone. Doing away with a few scars was not something that needed to be explained if you can rebuild whole people in this universe.

Yeahhhhhhh don't count on that

Just got a Paz scene where Ocelot walks in. They're talking about her wound opening, and Venom is confused. Ocelot looks right at Venom and says 'The medic has no idea what's going on' (or very similar) and I had to lol.

"Father picked me but I got all the recessive genes!" - A fake Big Boss met him for a few weeks and nobody said anything about bad genes

"I'm gonna kill you Patriots [said in Natasha's book in MGS2, when Snake is knocked out after beating REX]" - The Patriots are just computers; in fact, now it's retroactively established that "The Patriots" was only the name of the computers and the people were called Cipher

I like to imagine Ocelot having to keep reminding himself whenever Liquid's around to keep pretending that Big Boss totally had a horn and a robot arm whenever it comes up.

What was ocelot plan if the gov really delivered Big Boss' corpse?

this space represents 9 years coma, and after that, BB's life and story splited into 2 ways.
(I saw this idea in JP amazon's review)

That's quite clever. You'd imagine it was the Metal Gear "!" mixed with "V", but it definitely works as the two big bosses thing (or two phantoms also, if you want).

being able to make a random solider Big Boss that easily makes the entire rest of the series make no sense. Why even have clones of Big Boss if they can just hypo-thereapy someone into being Boss?

Solid and Liquid have no reason to exist anymore. At all.

Also, I never felt like I was Being "evil" and the enemy that Solid snake has to confront in later games, in Zanibar and wherever else. Big Boss, or rather the medic-as-Boss, comes off as a pretty cool and tolerant guy all things considered.

When does he turn evil? When do both Bosses turn evil? Is this transformation supposed to take place in yet another game set between the (already tight) sequence of events we've seen during this portion of the timeline?

Medic-Boss or Phantom Boss is incredibly stupid, and every moment that passes gets me more angry about it.

At that point wasn't Big Boss's body/vital signs/biometrics already the lynchpin in the whole Patriots AI system? If that was the case then Ocelot had to know that there was no way they were going to get the body.

They should have had Sins of the Father play over the final confrontation between Skullface and Snake (like, my version of it.)

I mean, imagine it playing over this:

Oh, and we should have gotten a wicked Kyle Cooper Bond-esque intro sequence with the 1980s inspired 'A Phantom Pain' track like how we had one in Snake Eater. Fill it with psychological imagery, broken mirrors, fire, blood, broken limbs, mechanical limbs, etc.

This would have been a MUCH better game. You should tweet this to Kojima as constructive criticism.

I wonder if Kojima would even read it.

Damn. That's pretty good. It certainly has a better structure than what we got. And I like how you manage the plot twist of Venom not being Big Boss.

Now I wish this is what we got. :(

I actually think the Venom twist had so much potential to be cool.

Great read. I think the presentation deffo works better with this structure.

IMO. i would've tackled TPP with a lot of nightmares and psychological oppression. Illusions and nightmares coming to life as you battle through the game. Triggers that make you feel the troubles of BB.

The past haunts you, the present wages war on you, and all the potential of connections of the future are there for exploration.

It really needed that surreal nightmare quality. It feels like the set up was geared for it, and they didn't do anything with it.
I kinda wish the game took the whole psychological downfall of BB seriously. Instead of not even addressing it.

Is there anything, anything at all in the lore, anywhere, that even remotely suggests that Big Boss had a "phantom" of himself created?

I feel like that would give me some of the legitamacy that I think I'm craving for the story to "feel" better to me.

No. He even says in the last game he appears in timeline-wise, MGS4, 'You erased me two times before' when talking to Best Snake about MG1 and 2.

There's the question of how exactly BB survived MG1 and appeared in MG2. Well, it's not so much a question but reframing history to have more intrigue.

Well I mean, the fact that Big Boss was killed in MG1 and some how came back after that.

Solid and Liquid have no reason to exist anymore. At all.

But this is a theme which has been consistent throughout MGS. The argument of nurture vs nature. You're not a random soldier in MGSV, you're a specific soldier who was close the Big Boss and recognized as being very talented. It's no different from how Raiden could replace Snake, and how Big Boss could replace The Boss, even though none of them are related or clones. In the end, the clones of Big Boss were the ones who were unable to replace him because they were unwilling to become him, even though they were designed for that purpose.

Solid and Liquid exist because someone wanted to experiment on the theory that cloning could make a new Big Boss, but the theory was wrong. They ended up being failed experiments which had a will of their own, and created their own destinies. That's the entire point.

There is no "evil" Big Boss. It was all a lie created by the Patriots. In MGS4 it was made pretty clear that Big Boss was made a pariah because he split from Cipher, so information was distorted to make him the villain of the world when all he was trying to do was break Cipher's control. Sure, it's a retcon, but it's a retcon from several games ago. :P

The marketing for MGSV was definitely deceptive though, lol.
