Persona 5 delayed to Summer 2016 for PS3/PS4

Love it when people get upset at PR doing their jobs lol, John was just reiterating was AtlusJP had told him, don't blame him for that.

If you are truly upset, I feel sorry for you. Lighten up. The game will come out and will be good, what else matters?

While it has been a long ass time since P4 first game out, the time between P3 and P4 was very short, so I fully expect the same between P5/P6. But that's still a ways off, so for now BRING ON 2016 OMG new Persona yay

I haven't watched the trailer yet, I'm considering avoiding all spoilers.

We say this about every year, then half the games get delayed and we're back to the next year being insane.
Yeah the same thing is going to happen next year, which I believe is ultimately a good thing since people will be able to play all these big games over a longer time frame than if they were all stuffed in a 3-4 month period.

I'm very disappointed with Atlus for how this game is being handled.

Same. Honestly, the thing I've always liked about Atlus is that they announce games like "OK, it'll be here in six months!" and then they build up the hype and then we have the game. Whereas here, they announce it, they build up the hype, and dangle the elusive release date in front of us for two years. They've at least been pretty good about not showing off too much footage from the game, so good on them for that, I suppose. Not gonna act like Persona 5 is the first taste of success for Atlus or anything like that but this game is expected to do really well for them so that has probably had a bit of a role in its delay. In any event, if the game turns out really well then I guess that's what matters most in the end - let's just these delays actually help the quality in the game in a positive manner.

That leaves my wallet somewhat spared for this year, but next year is too much ;_; Too many effin games next year!

I really want Persona 5 in my hand's but I'm kind of glad it won't come out this year because of Fallout 4.

But then next year we have a all if the heavy hitting JRPG's coming out ;__;

That trailer was so damn good that I'm actually OK with this announcement. What I DO hope for is a simultaneous worldwide release (well at least JP & US, we all no there's no hope for EU) or, barring that, a very accelerated US release like they did with SMT 4.

At this point, I feel that a reason for this is exactly because of the November 24, 2013 event. When Persona Q and Persona 4: Dancing All Night were announced, people were left feeling despondent (which is obvious from the event thread we had here) and had lost some faith in the series.

Along with Ultimax being one of the games mainly featured there, I think Atlus felt they had to tease Persona 5 real early at that point to make people go, "Oh, okay," and come around to the spin-offs because they had an official confirmation that Persona 5 was a thing. Persona 5 was apparently not even teased at some of those on-site, big screen locations in Japan and only done on the live streams. If not for that, this delay would have made people feel the same as the September 1, 2014 announcement, and probably would have been an easier pill to swallow.

I've finally come to terms and embraced the delay. We've waited for so long, what's another 9 months. Might give a few new games a shot that I never would've earlier.

Maybe they are delaying it too because they saw a bunch of games that could move PS4s in Japan are launching in 2016, so they are taking that as an opportunity to launch the game with a bigger install base.

At least this gives them the chance to learn from their mistakes and to promote it at E3 this time.

PS4 holding back the PS3 version. :/

Chances are pretty high that you have to buy a PS4 to play it if you can't speak japanese.

Well that blows. When P5 was first announced (nearly two goddamn years ago I may add!) I bought a PS3 thinking it would be out mid-2014 the latest.

I guess it's not a big deal, since I was planning on getting a PS4 for Nier 2.

Why the mentioning of ps3/4? Why not just "summer 2016"? also fuck you Atlus, at least you could have been fucking honest. Why WILLINGLY set up this pr disaster? I don't get it.

Not really surprised by the delay, given how little we've seen of it. That said, i'm fine with it because now we have a pirate Persona!

Honestly with up to another year waiting, I could see them quietly dropping the PS3 version outside of Japan with the install base of the PS4 continuing to grow.

I can see that. Even though Atlus was releasing games late into the PS2's life cycle, it's different this time with a bigger install base on the PS4 outside of Japan.

Why are some of you guys playing the delay on the PS4?

It's the most likely scenario IMO. They didn't wait this long to announce it unless they were pretty sure of how things would go, and then the PS4 version gets announced and the delays start coming.

You just have to look at how they usually announce their games and how development is often shorter other there.

That trailer was wonderful, but did anyone notice how starkly simple some of the PS3 assets were? The cars, for example, look like they're comprised of about 30 polygons. Everything looks very clean as it's running on a PS4, but yikes.

Also, I'm rather crushed. I thought the frequent reiterations of 2015 as the release date surely indicated that a slow rollout was planned and intentional. That's utterly ridiculous by Atlus. Why would you persist with a lie for so long?

Being a PAL, if this is region locked I will have to think whether I want to continue supportingthis company. Thankfully that seems very unlikely.

So it's still coming this year on PC, 360, and X1 right? RIGHT?

Fucking god damn. That they knew it this whole time is what hurts the most. That explains why it was such a no show during the big pressers. Here I am waiting for a big stand alone presentation but nooooooooope. They were keeping the delays to themselves. A delay that puts it nearly a year away from now. How did they have the balls to tell us it would hit NA in 2015 if they knew....

Why are some of you guys playing the delay on the PS4?

I wouldn't pin the delay entirely on the PS4 but I believe it at least contributed to the delays. Not to mention the delay first came about when the PS4 version was announced. For me it's Hashino's message in this video. Sounds like they started development for the PS4 and said look at all this room for activities.

Since Persona 5 is being developed for a new console, Hashino didn’t want to hold anything back and just make a short game, so instead, they’re packing the game with all kinds of content, and it’ll be the most voluminous title the series has yet to see as far as gameplay and play time goes.
