Persona 5 TGS trailer

I just really hope they use this supplemental year to extend the length of the game. Please

This is what Hashino said in the developer video:
Since Persona 5 is being developed for a new console, Hashino didn’t want to hold anything back and just make a short game, so instead, they’re packing the game with all kinds of content, and it’ll be the most voluminous title the series has yet to see as far as gameplay and play time goes.
To end the video, Hashino asks if all of you enjoyed the recent trailer, which he believes had a lot to share. However, regarding the development delay of the game, he deeply apologizes to everyone that has been waiting in anticipation for so long. That said, he feels that in order to make the game into something more complete, and something that can provide players with a better experience, more time will be needed, so he asks if you can wait just a little longer.

That's, like, the last thing a Persona game needs.

I'd much rather them focus on filling out the game game more content and better pacing, rather than one boss fight every ten hours.

FES (and to a lesser extent, P3P) were absolutely vital to filling out the core game.

There's definitely two different female voices in the first part of the trailer, aside from Morgana.

My colleague mentioned that it could be Yuuki Aoi (Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica). Both Mizuki Nana and her are starring in the currently airing Symphogear GX, which both of us are big fans of, so we were quite excited by the announcement of the voice actors.

I don't think both of "Anne's" lines in part one are actually Anne. One of them sounds different, but it could always just be a difference of tone.

I see. Since Part 2 is obviously Anne, the point of contention here is:
Anne (Nana Mizuki): "Since we're here, we could take the big one..."
and
Anne (Nana Mizuki): "Whatever! Just hurry up to the roof already!"
The first time I saw that translation, I thought that it was weird that the first line has her hesitate as if she wants to grab a bigger haul and isn't too fazed by the situation they're in, while the second line is filled with urgency and how they should escape immediately.

There's a good chance you're right.

The first "Anne" in Part 1 is actually Rina Satou's character.

Ah, well there it is. Thanks.

This one sounds more to me like a recurring laidback atmosphere environment song, like one you'd always return to here:

These aren't the best comparisons since they're taken from YouTube (though, we're not comparing minutiae here so it doesn't matter that much) and because the camera angles are so different (Hashino wasn't lying when he said he was going to zoom the camera in for Persona 5 to give the world a more realistic proportional feel), but here are a few side-to-sides from the recent trailer and the latest mainline Persona:

When was PV02 released? Is it the one that came on a disc?

Yes, the one released with first-print copies of Persona 4: Dancing All Night on June 25, 2015. It hasn't been officially uploaded anywhere yet, but it is being shown on the showfloor of TGS 2015 and it was shown several times on Sega's live stream for it.

I could totally see it as a track for the cafe as it kind of reminds me of music you would get in the Stray Sheep. I could also see it as a track for going outside at night.

I like the closer camera for the sense of scale, works perfectly for a big city environment like the one from Persona 5. Though I do think it's a bit too close to many "persona clones" out there, it does feel a bit less unique. Both for being a big city and for the camera style.

That will probably not matter anymore the moment I actually play it, since the difference in the content and activities, and how polished they are will definitely overcome the familiar look.

I wish we had more small japanese town games, I love that kind of setting, even if I'm still excited at seeing how a big city will look and feel like with more powerful hardware for this series.

Crossposting a couple things I think I've inadvertently figured out:
Ah crap, I think I've looked too deep and inferred too much because of all this talk about Anne and a dungeon. I guess here's what I've come up with:

- Anne has a stalker: http://i.imgur.com/Ru02h7d.jpg
- Either one or both of Anne's sound bites on her character page refer to this person. "1: You’re a strange person, aren’t you? Even though everybody avoids/ignores me, you…." for when she first meets him, or "2: I’m not so cheap a woman that someone like YOU could just do as he pleases" when she comes to dislike him.
- When in PV#03 Anne says "You're not human! You're just a demon who craves relationship!" she's directly speaking to that boss that has a form of her in its cup: https://36.media.tumblr.com/0da32aa7a1c2b1ae481c3d6ec576fae7/tumblr_nuvgmaXevK1sutdsuo3_400.png
- That boss is the stalker, and given its a boss, it's presumably the climax of a dungeon, or one of them.
- The stalker is obviously a human, so this means that the boss represents that stalker's "heart" and that the dungeon—or that section of it—revolves around it.
- When Anne is calling that boss a "demon," she still means it figuratively, even though she's talking to a monstrosity. She's talking to the warped heart of her stalker, debasing him by calling him a "demon."

I thought about that too and it makes sense and seems like the more obvious place to put it. It could be either, really.

As an aside, I wonder what the icon for rectangles with two squares on the mini map means. There's one that seems to be for the Heavenly club in that night shot.

Pretty sure that's a vending machine. There's one beside the club, and another across the street, just like on the minimap.

No one thinks they're just going to announce another game? I mean, the stream is for the franchise not just any one game. That "Deviliser" trademark is still unaccounted for. That could be a Persona spin-off.

They could also be doing something else related to P3, P4, or both. I'm sure everyone has a passionate rebuttal for why they shouldn't do that, but both games are practically brands of their own at this point.

I'm not even jonesing for more myself, I just wouldn't be that surprised of P4D was not the end.

Also, on the subject of the spoiler speculations.

The fact that he uses a volleyball likely means the person is the volleyball captain or at least a member of the team.

I'm thinking new game due to this.

I feel confident there's another game. However, I think this countdown is leading up to something specifically P5 related.

That's pretty cool.
Bosses being the corrupted hearts of people and all. I just fear it could end up being about going around fixing people, that would be lame as hell. The theme of accepting who you are of Persona 4 seems much more interesting to me than fixing broken hearts. At least it's the most likely scenario if we're entering a stalker's heart and "fighting his demons".

I also fail to see how that would relate to the whole theme of "feeling stuck in life and breaking free from those chains".

Most of the megaten spinoffs except persona have "devil" in it(and this seems to be intentional). Devil summoner, digital devil saga, devil survivor and devil children. It's likely it's own thing unrelated to persona. They aren't going to announce that during a persona stream. P3 definitive edition for ps4 this fall would be a great thing to show though.

So I considered that and I'm genuinely wondering how quickly they'll push the spin-off button with this one.

Would they be willing to put these characters in another game before P5 is even out? (Although I'm asking this while also assuming the game would probably be released after P5, even if they announce it this weekend.)

Eh. Of course I've noticed that, but the full title of P1 is Revelations: Persona. I could easily the full title of whatever Deviliser is being Persona: Deviliser. I'm not ruling it out. I see no reason, too.

I mean, let's be honest: At this point they're much more likely to do a Persona spin-off than an SMT spin-off.

I don't know, the common term that's being used is "Take Your Heart" and stealing hearts. It seems that the P5MC is even being tortured in PV03 by someone who wants to know how they do it.
It could be a scenario where they're not fixing someone's "corrupt heart," but doing something more sinister to them; like exacting vigilante justice to the "problems of society" and those who directly hinder the freedoms of the main cast.

Heh, and I see that the TGS stream discussion has transferred to this trailer thread.

Sounds right.

I'm kinda bummed out that there haven't been many refutations to that theory. It sounds coherent and likely, too. I'm going to have to stop looking into Persona 5 stuff so closely for my own good.

P3 and P4 were close to a 50/50 ratio each.
P3 had four female, four male and a dog party member. There was also Ken
P4 had four female and four male party characters, when you count Teddie as a male member.

Navigators are included as party members.

So overall I again expect around 8 party members.

Please, please, please give us a good Navigator/Support/Mission Control character this time around.
Maybe a male character who takes the role seriously and isn't a pushover.

Mitsuru was probably the best Navigator in P3/P4, but she joins the active party and leaves the job pretty early.
Fuuka's probably second best.

Rise's too energetic and her constant fawning was grating, and Teddie was just the absolute worst to have to hear constantly.

I think MC is just being interrogated by the police, though physical abuse isn't common even if they can be rough. But I'm giving the chance that he got his bruises before that.
The room seems to be the same in the ending scene where he has no cuffs on.

Anyway some time before I called that one party member could be a police officer. I'm interested if that will turn out true.

There also seems to be water dripping from his hair.

The dialogue during that scene is a woman saying:
???: How do you steal people's hearts? ...Answer me.

And it's not just the bruises, but the P5MC's hair is dripping wet. Logically, tied up as he is in a scene like that, it means someone poured a bucket of water over him to make him lucid so that they can attempt to interrogate him again or beat him up some more. I think this:
...is obvious.

Hmmm, could be,
they did say it would be a bit darker and the protagonistas wouldn't be fighting for justice, or "because it's right" this time, but I clearly remember Hashino talking about the feeling of being stuck in life and breaking free, being able to fight that, and I'm not sure how this would translate to that concept.

"Feeling stuck in life? Go out and fuck up some fucked up people."

But it's too early to be sure, of course. If you told me that Persona 4 is about accepting who you are and then told me you have to fight a poledancer monster and solve a crime, I would probably think "what the fuck?"

This is actually the biggest reason I've decided on a blackout after this trailer, and I hope it's still really early into the game that they (or maybe just he) get caught. It would be unfortunate to have such an important plot point spoiled if it happens midway through the game and there's a huge buildup to it.

Yeah I guess it's obvious that he's being tortured. But even physical abuse has happened with police in Japan (they're quite known for coerced confessions), so I'm keeping that door open myself.

Just maybe the police are finally a bit wiser than in earlier games, so they know about all this supernatural stuff happening, and are using desperate measures to solve the case.

That would be interesting. I think it has to be a secret organization or rival group that the Phantom Thieves are fighting against, but normal people who know exactly what's going on behind the scenes would be a neat twist.

I could genuinely see some of the scenes like the people with signs being near the end of the game.

Persona 2 spoilers.
I was also thinking Anne referring to losing her memories could be near the end where something happens and the team needs to clear the memories of everyone including themselves of what they've been doing, but they don't want to due to all being outsiders at the beginning of the game, but even that seems to be TOO similar to Persona 2. Of course, that depends on how accurate the subtitles were.

I'm still convinced we're seeing a massive public entity as the main antagonistic force. Since the thieves are going to be making public appearances, it makes sense that they need to fight a villain that can't be taken down inside the system.

"Persona: Devilser" ? Like what the hell could that even be? Atlus is probably the only JRPG developer that doesn't give their games weird, random and nonsensical names. From "Persona" to "Digital devil saga" to "Devil summoner" to "Devil survivor" and even "True goddess reincarnation" describes the concepts of those games perfectly. We had "Persona 4: arena", "Persona 4: Dance" and "Persona Q: Shadow of the labyrinth". These games continue Atlus's tradition of being the only JRPG dev with dumb and random names(:lol). " Deviliser" obviously implies transforming something into a "devil" or becoming one yourself(ise/ize suffix means means to become or become like). "Devil" is the contraction for "digital devils" aka "demons" in the megaten franchise. "Persona: Deviliser" would imply that it's a spinoff about transforming into demons. Not only does that not sound like a modern persona thing to do, modern persona is actually the only megaten spinoff without "digital devils" in them (they have the same designs but they aren't actually demons). We have no idea wtf it is so I don't blame you for not ruling it out. The chances of that being a persona game is very unlikely. And I don't agree on Atlus being more likely to make a persona spinoff over a new megaten spinoff. They didn't bother slapping the persona brand(or at least cross marketing it) on AtlusxFE despite it looking like a persona clone.
