You're reaching farther than dhalsim here man. You don't actually know that. Not so sure, in the end when he smirks thats when he's like fuck yeah I am big boss, then hen time jumps forward to MG1 and snake is covered in blood he is pissed that he is sacrificing himself anf everything he did meant nothing. In MG1 it is the real big boss that is leading the mission, near the end "big boss's" codec number changes, we can assume the new number is venom trying to lead solid snake away from him because Venom doesnt want to die because in the end he felt used b big boss because he spread a legacy, lost his own past and for what, he has to take the fall for it which is why he is mad
Despite the flaws I still really enjoyed the game and the story. It was presented differently but it was actually quite focused for the most part. My only big gripe is the Eli loose thread which apparently was cut (which is a huge shame).
And really, when was the last time you did full playthroughs of the other 5 games? A good half of each game is split between monologues and snake repeating the last thing someone said as a question. I didnt realize it until someone recently pointed it out, but Snake and Volgin basically never exchange dialog the entire game of 3. 2 basically has a fifteen minute monologue about the nature of information before the final boss, mgs4 is almost one giant exposition dump....like maybe people just forgot all but their favorite parts of these games, but they were big soap operas.
Same here, although I felt more strongly about the lack of a 'Big Boss becoming a demon' storylin, how they handled Quyiet, and how they handled Paz.
Aside from those three things, I liked all of it a lot. It's a pity the Eli stuff isn't there, but I didn't feel it was 100% necessary.
What was wrong with Paz?
I think Paz is one of the best parts of the game. It feels like the Kojima I love. Proper amounts of wtf mixed in with some feels. It's a bright spot of the game for me.

Yeah, that showed a delicate touch that was absent from the rest of the game. It highlighted the emotional vulnerability of Big Boss. It utilized the story-telling potential of hallucinations. It has terrific music. It was also a moment where I think Kiefer had some really great line delivery.
I dug it.
Man FUCK mission 45. Even geared up and prepared for it, still total shit.
That last tank that supposedly snipes everybody and one shot kills them in the sandstorm? I never even saw that thing. I just kept low and at the edge of the mission area and I guess I must have snuck past it? Lol I found it one of the easier missions.I don't know why people had so much trouble with mission 45. It's annoying, yes, and I died like 3 times, but it is not as hard as people are making it to be.
First of all, you don't have to use the rocket launcher that Quiet gives you, you can pick up the one you had from the floor.
I just went up to the second floor of the house and shot the tanks from there. They could barely hit me, and every time they did it was my fault for coming out of cover.
So for the codename stuff, when the requirement says "Do X in 3 missions", does that actually require completing three missions or do side ops count?

Missions, I think.
Well shit.
they definitely hinted at that when you draw it on quiet. it's pretty much the same camera angle as when you have to kill the boss. it's sort of inverted with skull face though, which would make sense. You know what would've been crazy? Like say you decide to replay Chapter 11 or 31 which both involve drawing your gun on the downed enemy (in these cases being Quiet or Skull Face), it would have been creepy if they both turned into The Boss as you drew your weapon during that second try.
You should be able to replay them, no?
Unless by "Oh shit" you mean that you've been doing Side-Ops instead, in which case, indeed.
Venom sacrificed himself for big boss in the first place. Again, you're reaching. You don't know any of that for certain, not saying it isn't possible. But Solid Snake and the death of his men might be the cause for his anger. You don't know that venom snake started outer heaven himself, boss has been talking about it since peace walker. For all we know it was a joint effort seeing as they ery well may have been in communication prior to 95.he helped spread a legacy and in the end instead of the real big boss dieing (since he went into hiding etc) the fake one does and it seems he did his fair share of the load because it seems that Venom Snake started Outer Heaven in MG1 because in MG1 in the shattered mirror you see the Outer Heaven Logo, and Big boss started Zanzibar. Venom died for a man who was greedy and took everything from Venom, his identity and his own legacy he built up as "big boss"

The only logical explanation for Silent Snake is that Kiefer just refused to record the stupid lines in the studio and only agreed to do the well written ones.
Just finished Paz's story. Bit of a write-off, isn't it. Count that as the third thing i reckon the game got significantly wrong.

Is that "chapter 3: peace" image real? I can't tell anymore.

Yes, it was datamined along side other code that suggested there was a Chapter 3 in development.
The more I think about it, the more I like the twist. I like the story overall it just has 3 major problems.
1. 46 could have been so much cooler in developing the twist but it limped out, especially with the tutorial markers. Plain lazy.
2. Eli storyline needed to be completed.
3. Disjointed with the weird mission structure in chapter 2.
Fix those and it would have been best mgs story plot wise. As it is I like it the best only cause I didn't watch more cutscenes then play the game.
Overall, as I'm replaying it, the missions and gameplay are so fun (mission 6 is masterful) it's taken over MGS3 as my favorite metal gear game. M

Kojima specifically wanted a Mad Max-type silent protagonist. It's funny how people seem to keep blaming Kiefer for the lack of voicework, when it is 100% Kojima's choice.
He definitely did record some stupid lines, most of the funny ones are on soundcloud as someone was able to find those audio files. Some of them might be MGO, who knows.

That's very depressing.Yes, it was datamined along side other code that suggested there was a Chapter 3 in development.
Nah. Venom feels guilty he couldn't save Paz. Big Boss and Venom both didn't realize that she had a Snuke in her outside of the stomach bomb. That's why that hallucination of Venom going through her junk (ugh) played out and that's where the whole "WE DUNNO HOW SHE SURVIVED" bit happens.
I feel the message was decent, compared to the "Phantom Big Boss" twist, personally.
Wait what? Is this some kind of not worst standard? I guess Custer's Revenge had worse depictions of women so we're off the hook here.

What enemies? They were customers that were gradually growing more and more worried about the influence MSF could have on the greater world at large after it got a nuke. The fallout of the Peace Walker incident is what lead to MSF gaining enemies all over the world. Listen to the tapes, mate. It's all there. The meaning behind the story has ALWAYS been in the codec. (except in 4, which tried putting the codec into the main game story, which kind of ruined the pacing of the narrative)
I'd say it has a few more issues than that. Things like not mattering in the continuity, having a villain who doesn't have much presence in the story, characters coming out of the events of the game in much the same way as they entered.
I'd say MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3 have better stories, plot-wise, in terms of successfully integrating its themes and having at least some success in the more subtle commentaries of the stories (about fate, expectation, roles etc). MGSV, like MGS4, has a cool core premise (the power of language, and any economy of warfare, respectively), but both sort of lose focus on it and instead explain things that bare no relevance to the themes.
But I can understand liking the gameplay focus, I don't agree that the story benefits, though.
Yea the original trilogy certainly develops it's themes better but I can't seperate story from how it's told, script, acting, direction. I fear the first 3, at least mgs2 and 3 badly need editing so much so that it lessens it's story for me considerably. The fact that the tapes in this game contain all the bloat and they are skippable makes the story better in my eyes. If MGS3 could have cut it's first 3 hours of cutscenes down to 45 minutes it would be the far and best story to me. And it still probably is considering the problems I had with phantom pains second half.
Edit: I should have said best overall story instead of plot
I feel like a lot of people are disappointed by this game's story for expecting it to finish the story gap.
Was it ever intended to finish the story gap?
Did kojima and konami build this game with the intention of having another big boss sequel before their falling out?
I think, for the most part, we got what intended to be delivered. I don't think it was ever meant to bridge the gap all the way to MG1 or further. I think once it was discovered that this was the final MGS, some last minute changes were made, like the final scene with the operation intrude stuff.
