Persona 5 TGS trailer

So we're like Light from Death Note except instead of killing people, we're stealing hearts. An "L" type character will be interesting to see.

Persona 3 FES (Available on PS3) has the better story and party members and P4:G/P4 (available on Vita/PS3) has the better battle system.
Imagine a Persona 3 remake where they keep the story but bring all the gameplay refinements from P4/P5. The biggest negatives of Persona 3 were the repetitive dungeons, boss battles and map design. Persona 3 was also hardcore and required some serious grinding to progress. The final boss battle was one of the worst I have played, it felt forced just to make it last longer, and gets repetitive rather quickly.

It's funny because I've been thinking today that when they dub it, they might do well casting Light's actor from the Death Note dub as MC.

Hmmm, could be,
they did say it would be a bit darker and the protagonistas wouldn't be fighting for justice, or "because it's right" this time, but I clearly remember Hashino talking about the feeling of being stuck in life and breaking free, being able to fight that, and I'm not sure how this would translate to that concept.

"Feeling stuck in life? Go out and fuck up some fucked up people."

But it's too early to be sure, of course. If you told me that Persona 4 is about accepting who you are and then told me you have to fight a poledancer monster and solve a crime, I would probably think "what the fuck?"

It seems your thoughts were closer to the theory I presented of their goals being more sinister, given the new story details.

They sound like they operate like Persona 2's Masked Circle, or that game's Joker... or like Persona 3's Strega. Basically, not like the good guys, heh.

Also, I was right:
I bet it's Captain Kidd. Especially if the Deadly Sins theory applied to the characters checks out and Ryuji is greed.

Code Geass!

That's why the last minute of the trailer seemed so familiar.

The Lelouch/Zero vibes were intense, especially that shit-eating grin the MC gives at the end lol

I'll rage hard if it ends anything like Geass though. Or if there's a Suzaku equivalent at all.

Jun Fukuyama would be like "Fucking seriously? Again?"

Right because it would be really awesome if this game we're looking forward to is just an anagram of another thing we've already experienced.

I don't think that's quite the word you're looking for, but I agree with you. See the rest of this post.

If it's supposed to be Carmen Sandiego I'm gonna punch someone. (Unless that Carmen is named after another figure....)

This could be a possibility, actually.

Carmen Sandiego would be hilariously good.

I sadly assume otherwise it refers to the character/opera, and as Cannon_Fodder says, it makes a lot of sense both plot and character wise.

...Carmen Sandiego, though. Where's my live-action reboot already?

Jun Fukuyama? The guy who voiced Lelouch is also in this game?

Please don't let this be a coincidence!

The ending of Code Geass is one of the best in anime history, so I can only hope Persona 5 will have such a powerful and controversial finale too :3

Jun Fukuyama literally voices MC for Persona 5. As for the rest of your post...

Well... we can't be friends, but I respect you.

I am now even more positive that the Deadly Sins theory holds true for the characters.
A lot of people were thinking that the 7 deadly sins in Persona 5 would represent dungeons, but am I really in the minority thinking it's actually about the protagonists?

1. P5MC is Wrath. His composure when
taken over by Arsene
reflects this, his eyes in the game's opening are red (the color of wrath) and he's associated with blood (his footsteps generate blood and he's been seen bleeding from his eyes in cutscenes). His is the most obvious because we've seen the most of him, so the others are uncertain.

2. Anne/Anzu could be Envy if just going by the colors, since her eyes in the opening are green and there's her green four-leaf clover (the color of Envy). Plus, the weapon she uses is a whip, a weapon which symbolizes aggressive feelings, abusiveness and hatred/disdain for others.

3. Ryuji could be Greed. His eyes aren't normally yellow (they appear to be light brown or a really, really dark shade of yellow/orange), but when
he seems to be taken over by something (presumably his Persona),
his eyes become bright yellow, and that's also their color in the opening. There's also his "ZOMG" shirt and his thief gloves.

4. I was thinking Morgana could be exempt but, if not, her eyes are light blue, which is the color of Sloth. Plus, she's a cat, which perfectly fits that archetype.

5. PV02 spoilers:
"Never Never Give In" man has violet hair and eyes,
which represents Pride.
Plus, just look at him here; the dude is full of it. Not to mention his fleur-de-lis symbol, an insignia which blatantly refers to royalty and pride.

That's how I've always seen it, anyways, but I feel like most people just think it refers to dungeons, which I think is absolutely wrong. If it's characters, that would mean Gluttony and Lust would be the remaining ones, and could likely be tied to important characters as well.
Though there's probably some of that I'd have to revise with PV03, like the footsteps point.

Lmao

Code Geass has ended yet another potential friendship XD

I'm thinking maybe purification? Enlightenment?

It'd be cool if a rotten heart getting stolen basically meant something like truth serum. Like, if the group sends advanced notice as a warning, to the tune of "Confess your crimes, or we'll force you to," then if the target doesn't comply the group "steals their rotten heart" which forces the target to reveal their sins to the world in a much more humiliating and damaging way than if they'd confessed of their own volition.

Or any other media where the protagonist has good intentions and ends up doing something bad/getting worse over time.

This is what I imagine the case is.

The way they "fix" people sounds forceful and not "natural." Thinking of it like that, I might not have been too far off before.
I don't know, the common term that's being used is "Take Your Heart" and stealing hearts. It seems that the P5MC is even being tortured in PV03 by someone who wants to know how they do it. It could be a scenario where they're not fixing someone's "corrupt heart," but doing something more sinister to them; like exacting vigilante justice to the "problems of society" and those who directly hinder the freedoms of the main cast.
Maybe what they're doing leaves those who were "rotten" as soulless husks of their former selves, or removes their personality in a way that isn't morally right.

magazine leak has name for the 5th member (blue haired guy)
Name is Kitagawa Yusuke (VA:Sugita Tomokazu)
Different highschool from the rest, and the name of persona is Goemon.

This is the foxtail we saw from the first trailer by the way
I wonder if we will get a steady flow of P5 information from now on.
The new character's voice actor did Kyon in Suzumiya Haruhi and Joseph Joestar in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
His school is called 洸星高校, which is a pretty, uh, gorgeous name, and he sounds kind of elitist from his bio. Perhaps P5 will have a school rivalry setting like P2. Delinquents vs. rich kids.

I wonder if we will get a steady flow of P5 information from now on.

I bet not. They said that this week's issue of Famitsu would be Persona 5 related given the event, and its cover will also feature Persona 5 with a Shigenori Soejima illustration. Might be the same for Dengeki PS, but that wasn't mentioned. After that, it'll be radio silence until at least 2016.

Wait a minute, from the subbed version, near the end:

"You're trapped. A prisoner whose fate was sealed from the very beginning..."

Holy shit, we're finally gonna rescue P3's MC!

At least I hope so ;_;

I'm thinking the MC wouldn't be tortured for that. They still break into places, so they'd be interrogated, but I'm thinking the results are going to be darker.

Judging from that grin at the end, he planned to be captured all along.

So basically:

Those Personas sound legit. Hopefully Ann doesn't get murdered like Carmen.

Everyone's Personas except for I think Morgana's and the Protagonist's meet tragic ends. Something I posted two days ago:
Ishikawa Goemon was real, and that's obviously not-Jun's Persona.

But still, I agree that the criteria isn't "any semi-famous criminal in history." There's a specific theme that Hashino is going for with these Personas, notably pertaining to picaresque romance.

If Ryuji's Persona is Captain Kidd and Anne's Persona is Belle Starr, and it's practically confirmed not-Jun's Persona is Goemon, one of the consistent points is that those are all characters who met tragic ends fighting for what they believed in.

Makes sense. There aren't a lot of famous historical thieves/criminals whose lives ended well. Their lives are romanticized, but nearly all come to a similar end.

And good call, by the way. Belle Starr would have been a really cool choice. Maybe that'll be Ann's upgraded Persona.

Other reasons to want dual audio besides the Japanese voice cast being godly: Does Atlus USA even use enough voice actors to fill out the Persona 5 cast without drawing from the same pool as the P3 and P4 casts? Are there even enough good voice actors that do dub work and could voice high schoolers period that haven't been used before?

Their pool has been getting bigger, especially with the recasts. I think at worst we'll get one character with a reused VA.

Atlus has only done it twice with persona and there was bullshit involved.

That being said P5 is the perfect time to finally do proper dual audio.

Yeah, the only reason I have any sort of hope is that this is a huge, super high profile project for Atlus.

I have no issues importing if my hopes don't pan out though. Also, even if they do pan out, if the localization is too many months after the Japanese release I'll just buy the game twice.

Rina's character is probably the next one that'll be revealed. Presumably it's a party of seven this go around, which is probably good.

I feel like Naoto could easily get lost in the shuffle towards the end of P4, at least as far as the story stuff was concerned.
