Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

hooly shit, these guys arent kidding. the email app is totally open. typical sony. how on earth did no one notice this before?

You can email yourself a simple link (email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db. for example) and then your vita attaches that specified file from your Vita to a new email. I've just copied a whole load of shit off my console's NAND using this method.

That's some scary vulnerability.

I can probably see Sony rolling out an entirely new mail app in a future firmware update. I mean even though they state that Vita is legacy with minimal support, they still support it. I mean if they didn't then they wouldn't cripple most of the ePSP exploits with the 1MB Ram thing I suppose.

Knowing Sony and their way of "supporting" the vita, they'll just outright delete the e-mail app saying "WELL NO ONE WAS USING IT ANYWAY RIGHT"

Ok sooooo is 3.52 the latest firmware, and I guess I should update to it before Sony catches wind and releases a new one in the next day or two?

When are the details of this hack being released? Tomorrow, but when? Do I need to skip work? Lol

QUOTEnot yet and yesyes butbut could be any time.

Edit. Fucking Xperia keykeykeyboard.

I wonder why it took this long to figure out the hole in the email app. I know they must have poked at it since it came out and that command seems so simple.

I realize that, but Rejuvinate is blocked in the kernel for 3.52. ePSP stuff will work fine with this, but actual native won't run. The person that enabled it to be usable tweeted so.

Yea so this is just Kernel mode + a few things on 3.52 but not native homebrew support.

Seems im not updated. Native hacks is where the best stuff is. Not sure why they cant just release this new hack stuff for 3.51 if it uses email app. (email app has been there all this time)

They mentioned that it will work for any system 3.52 and under that has the e-mail app. So if you are on 3.51, don't update!

I figured it out. You need to send a hyper link containing "email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db" to the vita. I used thunderbird to do so but perhaps you can send hyperlinks in standard gmail idk...

I used gmail.

Also, your link won't work. You must have the . at the end of app.db

I was excited for Qwikrazor's exploit. I'm super hyped for Mr. Gas's and Major Tom's alternative.

There's one thing I'm not sure about (and neither Qwikrazor is, from what I asked him) is whether this exploit can load homebrew apps such as ARK. I assume it can... can't it?

so , how to send that link ?
just put in the subject of the message this ?
"email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db."

It's not in the subject, it's in the message itself.

Write anything on the message, and then put a hyperlink on said message with the "email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db." (this step you do in your PC, via gmail, thunderbird or w/e)

Boot the email app on your Vita, open the email you sent to yourself and touch on the hyperlink. The app then will automatically attach the Vita system file on a new email. Send it to yourself again.

Open the email on PC and download the file. Bingo.

press here

i opened the message and got error

In all seriousness, how long will some of us be able to not comply with a forced update, whether it's downloading a new game or accessing PSN? If this is as big as I think it is, I feel it'll be short-lived for those without a second Vita.

This is probably going to be the nail in the coffin for Vita. At least we're going out with a bang of emulators - retroarch finally workable on the best handheld system.

Reminds me of the swaploit hack. It's so simple, yet who would find it. I mean it's just a simple line from an email, but it took us 4 years to figure it out.

I bought a PSTV for a few specific games since it was cheap (Persona 4 Golden, Resogun, Muramasa, ect which I all have on cart or off PSN.) and to play my PSP games on my TV once a new exploit came out.

It is my only current Sony system, so I don't have PS+ games tieing me down to keep updating for. So with this release the system will serve it's purpose for me and I have no need to update again.

OH MY GOD, also this thread practically exploded, I nearly resigned myself after updating to 3.52 and missing out on Rejuvinate, now I'm beaming :)

I'm not sure, but I think it's because it need a dot after "db".

Like this: email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db.

If it's not that, I don't think I know what it is >:

ok , its worked

so , what now ? i tried to click on the attachment , but nothing

Hey guys, what's going in in this th-- HOLLY SHIT! Vita side hacked?! What do I do? Email? What email? I gotta... OK... gotta think... Imma need a PSTV...

No coffins here, you still need the cart to run Vita games apparently.

the app.db ?
just sent it and download it , its 552 kb , is that right ?

What you've done is just a proof of concept (that something can be done). The exploit itself hasn't been released, so we're not really sure how exactly this will work yet.

It's about the perfect time to start utilizing the Vita as the perfect homebrew device.

I don't know (and I don't think anyone knows for sure) if this exploit will provide the same access that Rejuvenate does. If it's limited to PSP homebrew, I think I'll prefer my N3DS as a homebrew device. Better portability, better performance ;)
