Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Oh, didn't read the last few posts about this future exploit not being usable for homebrews.

Well... interest deflated. Any exploit that needs to have a specific firmware I really don't care (as I want to have the last firmware always). This one was too good to be true...

I know it's probably really simple, but I'm not understanding the email thing at all..

I copied the link I keep seeing, but it's not showing up as an attachment in my email. Also, I can't seem to sync my gmail account to the Vita email app. It keeps giving me an error and telling me to sign in through the browser

You need to send a link through your browser mail, from your pc/notebook. You need to choose the option insert a link, put the code as the message and save the email.

Then, you open the same email from your vita e click on the link.

To sync your account, you'll need to allow "less safe apps" to connect to your gmail, or something like that. You can change that here (just scroll down all the way and enable it)

Now that you've dealt with that, you have to send a message with anything wrote on it, and put a hyperlink with the vita file path (the "email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db.", without quotes) on the message you wrote. Send it to yourself.

Open the email app on Vita and check the email you've just sent to yourself. Click on the message with the hyperlink and it will redirect you to a new email with the file attached. Again, send this email with the attachment to yourself.

Go to your PC, open the email and download the attachment.

As many said here, for now this procedure is just a "hey look, we can dump system files, check it out!11", so the file attached you'll get won't be of much use - you can download a SQL software like DB Browser for SQLite to take a look at the file, but that's it. We don't know yet what this exploit is capable of (until tomorrow, that is.)

Thank you both so much. I understand a little better now. Can't wait until tomorrow for what's in store.

You can go through your apps/games/etc/get files locations

Just got this :)

Just a bit of fun

And a few that I may set as backgrounds for my PS1/PSP pages

Since we're stuck to PSP emulators... Anybody know how to get gPSP games to not look shitty on vita? The aspect ratio has always been garbage for me...

how do you do that ?
so , i can also back up game file using this method ?
If the limit is 2MB then not at this moment. We'll see tomorrow.

for Danganronpa LiveArea background:

From tbl_appinfo_icon I took the titleId of Danganronpa: PCSE00261

In tbl_livearea I found PCSE00261, copied org_path: ur0:appmeta/PCSE00261/livearea/contents and added background_image: bg.png

Email with link: email:send?attach=ur0:appmeta/PCSE00261/livearea/contents/bg.png. gave me that image.

That won't work with 2-Step Verification enabled though. I haven't found any workarounds for this yet.

Guess it's a good thing that second PSTV I ordered for $20 is still in the box. I'm all over the PSTV being able to play all games if this is really true. Will gladly 'hack' it for this.

Wait so what exactly will this let us do? If it lets me install the psp/psone games it usually doesn't let me then I'm all for it (like portable ops) as well as emulators even if it's the psp ones.

Wait wait wait I'm lost.

So would I still be able to use ARK-2 and TN-V with this?

You need an exploit game or no?

I'm on 3.35 right now with ARK-2.

Is it live already and working? I've been so out of the loop since the 3.35 exploit...

It says 2mb limit so does that mean I can't do PSP/PS1 iso that aren't on PSN store anymore?

Just wait until we get more information. Release will be soon and then we will be given answers.
At first it sounded too good to be true and now hype is gone a little bit as it seems we won't have direct access to Vita horse power.
Time will tell and we won't have to wait very long, I guess.

The "exploit game" is the email app. There's no reason it should conflict with ARK or TN as far as I have seen. The 2MB limit is for copying files from the Vita.

It will be released tomorrow. It sounds like it will be pretty limited, but the fact it should get around the PSTV whitelist is enough reason for me to care about it more than previous hacks.

You'll have to wait until later today for more concrete information on what this exploit can do. So far, from what we know:

ARK-2, yes. I don't know if TN-V has been ported to 3.52 or not.

You don't need an exploit game, as far as we know.

Stay on lower firmwares if possible. The lower, the better.

It hasn't been released yet, but it's a matter of hours according to Mr. Gas.

That's just for dumping files, not for loading them. My guess is that you'll be able to install a tiny file that constitutes the exploit itself via the e-mail app and then forget about it.

What's with the Rejuvenate guy? I can see why he's a little bit salty about his exploit being replaced by something new, but since none of the guys releasing this has said anything new since yesterday we can still have some hope for a proper exploit.

Saying that we cannot run anything native seems to be based on assumptions by someone who isn't even releasing the files.

If this trick allows one to copy any file at least 2MB in size to the Vita, barring any read-only folders being excluded of course,

Then wouldn't this theoretically allow one to copy series of files piece meal to a specific accessible folder to allow something like a custom bubble to be loaded and another workable exploit from that.

I am not totally sure how this all works of course, but I mean if 2MB is the limit, it doesn't prevent someone to send a bunch of small files part of a directory structure all at once in this fashion.

Of course I'm only speculating on a hypothetical.

The question is interesting. What if you could transfer a binary that gets executed by privileged vita binaries and you exploit vulnerabilities that they have? Something what happened to Windows ten years ago (hottestbabe.scr).

Unless I am mistaken, whatever method they are using to get files onto the vita will be different to what has been revealed so far (dumping only) and may not have the 2MB limit.

The 2MB limit could actually be the limit to what can be sent via the email app on the Vita.

So, theoretically, will I be able to play my EU digital copy of Final Fantasy X-2 on my US account? I've had a US account, since the very beginning, started with the PS3, which has presented problems when buying Vita content. The FFX series being one; I can play the FFX cartridge, but would have had to delete my memory stick and switch over to my EU account just to access the digital version of FFX-2.

Thank you very much!

We would still need Rejuvenate as that's a vita kernel exploit right?

I missed out on it so I'm hoping that they have Rejuvenate out for the masses to install soon.

Yeah. This exploit is mostly on the ePSP side of the Vita. Who knows what developers will be able to do with the system files they dump? Maybe they can come up with a way to access the kernel with those files... but, honestly, who knows. Time will tell.

As for Rejuvenate, I won't deny that it's cool and all. But the fact that you need an external device to launch every piece of homebrew available completely kills my interest on it. Especially when the N3DS is shaping up to be shuch a compact homebrew powerhouse :)

Honestly, the first thing i want is being able to actually play my PSP games on my vita TV. FFIV doesnt work, Dissdia doesnt work. QQ.

Emulators would be icing on the cake.

Imagine, a Complete Emulation machine for less than $100. Winning.

This is really great. Rejuvenate was limited from the beginning, so I am delighted to see that there is another approach to Vita kernel.

Looks like mr. gas released the file needed to write stuff to the vita.

It's pretty simple. You send the file via email to your Vita, try to open it, don't click the error message but close down the email app and re-open, re-setup email then you can actually download attachments from the email app to the Vita file system. You call the file #0 and put the Vita path where you want it to download in the subject.

This one changes the internal PSTV whitelist, which is neat.

This is awesome and it's going fast :) Hopefully by the time I get back from work there'll be a few tutorials on how to install ARK and transfer files using QCMA :D

All I want to happen is to be able to play the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games on my Vita. I wasn't able to download and install it when the floodgates were opened last year.

My Vita TV from the newegg $19.99 deal just arrived. With the initial Vita TV setup, do I have to connect to the internet and have to update to the latest FW or is it possible to get this hack done w/o connecting to the Sony servers?
I don't want to miss out on getting that whitelist edited :)
