Alfonso Valles (he voiced Snake in the spanish version of MGS1) will always be the GOAT Snake voice. Too bad we only got him for one game...

Oh well, at least he got to voice the best game in the franchise from a story perspective, so it's not that bad.

Spanish... and i am talking like Mexico VA work... has always been really really good. Including the adaptation of screenplays to make more sense to the audience. Love all the Dub work the do. I'm afraid i can't say the same for English most of the time.

I feel i can't take you seriously until you turn super saiyan Chinner.

my name is chinner... and i am a super saiyan.

In this compilation he does that terrible 'end-of-sentence' growling thing throughout.

I have nothing against Hayter but his Snake voice became a parody of itself.

People may not like Kiefer for his un-enthused performance, I understand that. But I'll take a dull Kiefer delivery over Hayter taking me out of the scene and making me think "no human being sounds like that, not a single one" when he opens his mouth.

Eh, I guess we're going to agree to disagree as SS's voice is iconic and is part of what made the character, there are more crazy shit happening in the game that I never really thought of his voice in a way if a real human speaks like that or not. It's the same thing with Batman, whenever I see a picture of Batman I hear Kevin Conroy and whenever I see a picture of SS/BB I hear David Hayter. No matter whether you hate it or not you probably do too.

Getting killed in one hit is fantastic? I'm sorry, but it's cheap and not fun at all.

If one hit didn't kill you and you were very close to death it'd be fine.

A sniper battle should be like this, no room for mistakes. Quiet is a skilled sniper, she should kill you in one shot and you shouldn't be able to neutralize her in one shot because she has super powers.

Oh, Solid Snake's voice is iconic, we aren't in disagreement about that. I'm just saying that Hayter has been moving steadily away from what made the voice iconic for awhile. The voice in Peace Walker is straight up goofy.

Kevin Conroy, for instance, has put in a pretty bad performance in the Arkham games. Just because it's Kevin Conroy, and he's done great voice over work as Batman in the past, doesn't change that. There are times where his delivery is deadpan and awful in the games.

Doesn't flow as well as the Japanese line at all. I'm not sure why the English localization is always so literal.

https://youtu.be/HqRKPSt67ZU?t=90

The history of it is short, but interesting.

In Japanese it's "Mataseta na". It translates approximately to "I made you wait, didn’t I?", but to sync the mouth animations five syllables are needed for the translation. So, "Kept you wait-ing, huh?", which is a dumb sentence.

Perhaps you just genuinely can't hear how terrible his performance is.
or perhaps it's just you and vocal minortiy that thinks so.

btw. anyone has a link where Hayter explains differences between Solid and Naked Snake voices? I remember reading about that "growling" being intentional just for Big Boss. The article was published close to MGS3 release (although it might have been in printed press, not sure).

man who does justice to the character every single time tho.. Mark Hammill.. The Joker at its best with him. None of that Troy Baker BS.

Because you can play this game so many ways, once I stopped being a wuss and fought the Skulls up close, I had a much more enjoyable boss fighting experience than I did my first time thru [rocket launcher and a horse].

Yes, the Skull encounters and the three normal boss fights in MGS V are great. They are better than MGS 2 and MGS 4 boss fights. The girls sniper squad encounter in Code Talker mission was really good.

Yeah, I suppose. It felt a little cheap, though. There wasn't really a good way of killing her in a sniper duel, because you had to shoot her 8 times and she had to shoot you once. One mistake and your dead, have to start all the way back at the beginning.

I got her down to really low health by sneaking but then I got in a spot where there was no cover and got gotted. Pissed me off so I just called in a sleeping strike. I really liked it up until the insta-death. It was intsense. But the cheapness forced me as a player to use a cheese strategy or play through the whole thing again. I went with cheese. :)

I guess nostalgia is a strong thing for me but when I hear Kevin Conroy or David Hayter, I feel like a kid again, I grew up with these characters. I played MGS1 when I was 7 years old so I guess I have a bigger attachment to these characters so it kind of makes me biased I guess. Still, I feel with good direction I feel both can reach something great, something tells me most VA directors just want cold, badass-ness for these characters because that's what they think most people want.

Aside from that, I felt Richard Doyle did a fantastic job as BB in 4. Way more than Kiefer and it's easy to see why, his entire ending speech is more than what Venom/Real BB said in the entirety of MGS5 lol.

I think Kevin Conroy gets far too much criticism for his performance in Batman games. I watched a couple episodes of Batman Beyond and TAS, and the delivery is definitely far below that of what's in the games.

Going back to MGS, though. MGS1, 2, and 3 feature a similar and iconic sound. MGS4 and PW are notably different and worse.

And how Is that Kiefer's fault?

Why is people saying this game has no "emotional moments to relate to" or revelations? Reading some things I feel I have been playing another game,

The prologue, the whole
parasite plot where Kojima brought back the Snatcher paranoia and you had to actually participate in the story by piecing all the clues together
, chapter
45 is damn emotional and built through the game
and chapter
41 (was it Shining Light?)
has been the most powerful cinematic experience I've ever had while playing a videogame.

The revelation in chapter
46 is also mindblowing, with all the implications.

you don't have to use spoilers here. its ok.

haha, she kicked my ass too.

I hated the story, I thoght Kojima would be tired of the switcheroos already.
I loved the gameplay but then they took my favorite buddy away and I'm playing on PS4...
:/
so disappointed.

I think it's unfair to both Sutherland and Hayter. I love them both but most of the problems people have should be directed towards management because both guys shine at at least one time.
Kiefer sounds great when he's Big Boss ( hospital, doublethink truth tape etc)
-all his Venom stuff which sounds good, were cut (Paz exchange, episode 51)

David Hayter is the voice of Solid Snake, and his codec conversations with Otacon in the Tanker portion are THE BEST OF THE SERIES. So much love of the character shines through in those optional codec dialogues.
-his voice always paralleled with the tone of the series. You have a problem with it? Blame it on the Voice Director who had Troy Baker doing 2 bland voices for Ocelot, had Christopher Randolph sound super annoying and unconvincing, and made sure to have Codetalker compete with Ambien

Hold on a second here, what are the extent of her super powers?
She can move fast, be invisible and have super armor skin?
Hell, if she get's shot by a sniper when you bring her as buddy, she get's injured after 3 shots and is extracted by Kaz.
Preposterous inconsistencies.

So can i blame Kojima now? Fuck Kojima.

Kris Zimmerman was the voice director in MGS1, but so was Jeremy Blaustein, the man who spent 8 months singlehandedly localizing MGS1 to English and the person most responsible for the excellent quality of the script and voice acting in that game. He deserves a lot of love and respect.

The only correction I want to make here is that Jeremy is quick to say he was assistant Voice Directot... Not to step on any toes.
Also Agnes Kaku did a great job too. Many pages back I gave a link to examples of her localization.

Did he make the choice to give Mei Ling her inexplicable accent

Yeah, I have lot of respect for Agnes, too. She feels nothing but contempt for MGS, but she still delivered an amazing translation (GW's final codec with Raiden is a good example). The epitome of a pro.

I dunno. I always liked it, though, if it didn't make sense for the character.

So is it a general consensus that the reason a no name medic is Venom is because Kojima wanted us the player to be Big Boss? If so wouldn't that only be exclusive to male players? I guess Kojima would have hard time explaining the medic changing genders during a coma. And maybe a subject matter that Kojima didn't want to handle. But then he shouldn't have the done the whole "You Are Big Boss" in the first place. Venom should of been an established character in the first place.

Yep.

It's a sucky, half thought out twist.

"You're Big Boss, as long as you're not a female", and how exclusionary that is, almost makes the 'you're Big Boss' twist not worth doing.

do you guys know what the naked gold camo does? i've tested it out but i don't notice anything major. maybe a bit more damage resistance?

So she needs more than one shot to get injured unlike a normal human being. Where is the inconsistencies?
