Eh, 70 hours of that 150 was probably waiting for peaqod to pick you up and drop you off.
Sucks for people that dont just exit the hotzone instead

Absolutely.
Hayter was flawed but he put his vocal signature on the series. Consider something wild like... Take the PS1 Resident Evil. If you'd had Kiefer Sunderland, Nolan North and Troy Baker doing all the voices instead of the guys we had, sure technically they would have annihilated the performances from the original but fuck it - it was part of the games charm, warts and all
That feel when chinner is the voice of reason amongst disillusioned metal gear fans.
Lol. Didn't think of that. I think I ended up just calling a tank in.The Quiet boss fight is actually pretty damn easy since you can just Rocket Punch her in the head safely from cover.
The pacing of the game was certainly pretty damn wonky. And there are powerful moments (Quiet saving the boss by speaking English, Paz's last tape) but because everything in this game is segmented as episodes, it's tough to feel anything because it's disjointed. And the episodes are more filler than killer.
I didn't mind. I was used to that since the European extreme boss fight against Olga. Sure it's frustrating, but like everything else on this world, once you understand something, it becomes easier.Getting killed in one hit is fantastic? I'm sorry, but it's cheap and not fun at all.
If one hit didn't kill you and you were very close to death it'd be fine.
You know how you do an open world stealth game?
Everyone in the open world is looking for YOU. And you need to hide from everyone. An alert at every corner.
On to something completely different... This game has made me distrust Yongyea and also I can't listen to Kinda Funny talk about this game... Greg Millet calling people that didn't like MGSV trolls didn't sit too well with me. It's very log headed to think that way.
Exactly. Hayter was perfect for a series as goofy as Metal Gear. His voice became iconic for a reason. Outside of Japan, he became the voice of Metal Gear.
The Quiet boss fight is actually pretty damn easy since you can just Rocket Punch her in the head safely from cover.
Quiet boss fight on extreme is just fantastic, you should try it if you didn't. I'm not a fan of TLOU, I did beat it once and got bored at the end, and I don't think thatboss fight was exceptional, it was good, but not amazing. RE4 is fantastic though, I have finished it many times.David
YongYea completely lost me when he tried to compare the situation to the backlash against LOST's ending. I get that there are people who think the ending was stupid and lame and are outraged over it but overall the whole conversation seems a lot more nuanced than that.
Because you can play this game so many ways, once I stopped being a wuss and fought the Skulls up close, I had a much more enjoyable boss fighting experience than I did my first time thru [rocket launcher and a horse].

Listen to this shit. Listen to how he says "relics", or any other word that comes at the end of a sentence.
His performance became a bad joke that permeates even when he's doing other characters.
Lol. Didn't think of that. I think I ended up just calling a tank in.

I have to agree... i hated the skulls.. until i leaned you can go CQC in epic moments. Pretty fun fights after that.
Oh yes. He said "relics" alright. What's your point?
As Metal Gear progressed, the gameplay got better but the story got worse.
When we talk about about MGS4, which is a very polarizing game.. Most of us get chills when we arrive at Shadow Moses. Memories like that will never leave us.
There's nothing in MGSV that emotionally lingers like that. And there are powerful moments (Quiet saving the boss by speaking English, Paz's last tape) but because everything in this game is segmented as episodes, it's tough to feel anything because it's disjointed. And the episodes are more filler than killer.

Perhaps you just genuinely can't hear how terrible his performance is.
Yeah this wasn't very good. I maintain that it was grime the way konami just let him god. I think he'd have been a great asset in writing because he's a shit VA.Listen to this shit. Listen to how he says "relics", or any other word that comes at the end of a sentence.

Nah you just need the Tier 2 upgrade and its very manageable. It's a slightly tedious way to do it because it takes a while to recharge the energy but it isn't that bad as you have to preposition so much anyway.I assume you have to do a lot of upgrading to be able to reach that far.
It's patently disingenuous. Your sweeping, stupid generalization was the very portrait of insincerity. That wasn't really an argument that anyone was making or was interested in making. Don't want to approach a topic in good faith? GTFO.
You're right though, you're not disguising your fanboyism. You're just wearing it on your sleeve without any shame.
Kiefer sounds great as Big Boss. The intro scene, the monologues on tapes, the few cutscenes where he talks - they all sound great. "I gave her a light, she took the long way home." Fucking fantastic.
The sparse dialog is a problem, but the sparse story throughout the whole game is a problem. The game being incomplete is a problem.
That's just an example, I could have used the big boss and solid snake confrontation... Which is nice... Isn't?Then you have people that say the game is to fan service-y and was relying on older, better games lol. As for the Hayter and Keifer debate, I'm siding with Hayter because if people listen to interviews with Hayter he said that he was told to use that Old Snake voice. I mean, his Winter Soldier performance sounds like young snake.

+10
He seemed quite anxious and desperate haha... i guess he was shocked to see so many negative thumbs on his review.
i don't think hayter rikes me anymore

He doesn't sound like young Snake there. He sounds like young Snake here.
He just makes this terrible choice where he growls the last syllables in every sentence. He didn't do that in MGS1.
I'm not familiar with the guy outside of that review but at certain places I was questioning if I'd even played the same game as him.
I fucking hate how people are trying to color our disappointment with MGSV being "its just MGS nerds don't like the story" Yes, I found certain aspects of MGS story (mainly the ending) to be rubbish. But that's not the only reason. The empty superfluous open world, the repetitive missions, the waiting times between everything and the unfinished second half are what make it a massive disappointment.
Keep hiding behind that amazing game play though.
Yeah, the Skulls blew until I started doing CQC against them. Still not my favorite, but much more digestible once I realized that it was just as viable.Because you can play this game so many ways, once I stopped being a wuss and fought the Skulls up close, I had a much more enjoyable boss fighting experience than I did my first time thru [rocket launcher and a horse].

He sounds the same in every line... there is no emotion.. or intention. its just delivering a line with some pauses. How is this good VA? The colonel does great VA.
He doesn't sound like young Snake there. He sounds like young Snake here.
He just makes this terrible choice where he growls the last syllables in every sentence. He didn't do that in MGS1, but it's certainly there in MGS3 and more prevalent as the games went on.

It worked for who Solid Snake is. He's a cold, super-tier soldier. Good voice acting doesn't have to be able being enthusiastic, but you should sound genuine. MGS1 sounds genuine, "You twist your elbow to absorb the recoilugh" doesn't.
Well people age, you know? My point was that he could reach somewhere near that vicinity with good direction. Of course he isn't going to sound the same as 1998, lmao.
if hayter was in mgsv, it would have reached shit tier.
sutherland was good, and worked with what little material he had.
But when he does the same awful voice and makes the same awful vocal delivery decisions in Dragon Age it's clear that it isn't just the direction; he has a warped idea of what the Snake voice is, and the voice has become a parody of itself over time.
The only way I was able to consistently trigger him moving to a snipeable position visible from near the landing site was to cause an alert and hope that he ran down stairs.
The issue here is that it usually cost me the S rank or it took too much luck.
There are 3 boarded up windows on the floor he is on and he always spawns next to the middle one. My early attempts involved me trying to snipe him through the reddish metal plates on the window with the highest penetration sniper but it wouldn't work.
I'll take "shit tier" Hayter over mumbling, bored as hell Kiefer ten times out of ten.
Kiefer isn't terrible in TPP, he's worse than that, he's bland.
Oh, and about half the time he actually DID have lines, he manage to screw up intonation.
The mentioned Boss fight in The Last of Us would have been a good approach to a Skull Face boss in The Phantom Pain, now that I think about it.
The Quiet boss fight on extreme was okay. Once you get the hang of aiming it's pretty easy to cheese it, though. Run, dive to cover, aim, take cover from bullet, shoot, repeat. And there isn't a lot of 'character' in the fight, unlike typical boss fights; something like MGS2's Fatman boss fight might not be all that well designed, but it's interesting and the personality of the boss shines through.
THIS is exactly how I imagine the recording sessions went down with Keifer.
Yeah, the Skulls blew until I started doing CQC against them. Still not my favorite, but much more digestible once I realized that it was just as viable.

More importantly, it's possible to have generally enjoyed your time with the game and still critique it. That's the mark of being a grown-up: recognizing the flaws in things you like.
But then you got examples in interviews, panels and shit where he sounds much better or in other video games depending on the direction. Who knows maybe Bioware were massive fans of his growling MGS voice lol.
In this compilation he does that terrible 'end-of-sentence' growling thing throughout.
I have nothing against Hayter but his Snake voice became a parody of itself.
People may not like Kiefer for his un-enthused performance, I understand that. But I'll take a dull Kiefer delivery over Hayter taking me out of the scene and making me think "no human being sounds like that, not a single one" when he opens his mouth.

That's not even what he says...
If Hayter has a marble gargling problem, Sutherland has a mumbling problem.

I was typing on my phone. My thumb swiped "home" instead of "down."
That line was fantastic. That whole section, including the suggestion to heal wounds in battle, and 'you're looking at yourself'... all great. No other voice actor would have made those lines better. That's all the proof I need to say he was great for the part.
The rest of the game is Kiefer working with the material in front of him, or was simply cut from the game.
talking in a low growl is quality voice acting according to some.
Alfonso Valles did Snake's voice for Spain. Castillian I guess you'd call it? Anyway, he was really good. In fact, MGS1 dubbing is kind of legendary around here.Spanish... and i am talking like Mexico VA work... has always been really really good. Including the adaptation of screenplays to make more sense to the audience. Love all the Dub work the do. I'm afraid i can't say the same for English most of the time.
Don't agree with you completely, but Kiefer's KEPTYAWAIDINGHA always makes me sensibly chuckle.
This is also a good example. Just feels empty.
Which is weird. Because the rest of the case usually has pretty good VA.
