So to save clogging up the SPECTRE thread (as lets be honest it's the only decent thing worth talking about after that awful song) what des GAF say is the best Bond theme song?

For me it's a close match up between these two:

Goldfinger

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy_PJODH3p0

&
You Know My Name
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnzgdBAKyJo

Just outside the top two is A View To A Kill & Live & Let Die

Edit: Please rank your picks into a top 10:

1) - You Know My Name
2) - Goldfinger
3) - View To A Kill
4) - Live and Let Die
5) - Licence To Kill
6) - Diamonds Are Forever
7) - Nobody Does It Better
8) - On Her Majesty's Secret Service Theme Song
9) - Goldeneye
10) - Die Another Day

I was going to make this thread, but require everyone to rank them all so the "johnny come lately" people don't just say "skyfall" or "you know my name".

Not official Bond themes but ones which I think are right up there are OHMSS opening credit theme and We have all the time in the world (I've rarely seen the latter mentioned anywhere).

Oh, boy. Great list. I think the only one I would not have on that list is The Living Daylights (always felt like an also-ran to me), and the rest I would probably reorder. Great list, though. I love You Only Live Twice in the movie, but as a song, I don't know, and Mad Men boosts it in my mind at the moment. It definitely falls the more I think about it.

Mine.... urg... gun to my head:

1: Nobody Does It Better
2: Live and Let Die
3: Goldfinger
4: A View to a Kill
5: You Only Live Twice
6: On Her Majesty's Living Service / We Have All the Time in the World
7: You Know My Name
8: Goldeneye
9: Skyfall
....I can't pick a 10th.

I could re-order this list a lot, though.

Worst 5, in no order:

For Your Eyes Only
Die Another Day
The Man with the Golden Gun
Another Way to Die
Writing on the Wall

Nobody Does It Better

Most underrated: Sheryl Crow - Tomorrow Never Dies

Good despite hate: All Time High (your grandma's Bond theme.. in a good way), Die Another Day

Classiest Bond theme compared to its movie: Moonraker

I really love GoldenEye. Also, I genuinely think that Tomorrow never dies would have been the best bond song is sung by someone like Shirley Bassey, I love the music to it.

I like Tomorrow Never Dies, but it is nothing like a Shirley Bassey song, and is too nihilistic for her voice. I think Crow did it as well as it could be, and probably the crumminess of the movie undermines the song more than anything.

Other than Die Another Day, which is a terrible song and maybe a worse movie, Bronsan had a really good track record for songs. It's a shame he got mediocre movies.

Nah, it's rawer as it is. Surprising performance by Crow and an unusual Bond theme because of it. Forcing it to become a Bassey theme would've been awkward.

I think that's also true, also the video itself is shit tear. The song is dark and has a good energy, but the video is just pure cringe.

Die Another Day is one of the most creative and cutting edge of 'modern' Madonna songs - people just couldn't deal with digital artifacts in a Bond theme.

1) The Spy Who Loved Me (Nobody Does It Better) - Carly Simon with an all time classic.

2) Live And Let Die - Paul McCartney, the greatest songwriter of all time does his best post-Beatles work.

3) Goldeneye - Tina Turner outdoes Shirley's Bassey at her own game. Almost spoiled by crappy synth strings, but Tina is simply the best.

4) Tomorrow Never Dies - Sheryl Crow modernises the Shirley Bassey vibe. Beautiful baritone guitar tone, and the best raspy voice in any theme.

5) Thunderball - Tom Jones being a badass. Not unusual.

6) Moonraker - Shirley Bassey's better theme. Yes Goldfinger defined the whole sub-genre, but the shrill performance is not a pleasant listen. Moonraker is much nicer to listen to.

I also like Another Way To Die, though not many seem to. It's very innovative and the best balance ever between traditional cabaret and guitar rock. Dat Wooly Mammoth guitar effect.

Nobody Does It Better

Die Another Day is absolutely awful, and I'm saving the new one for when I see the movie, but so far it doesn't sound great.

Goldfinger is still, and will always be, far and away the best.

Thunderball, Nobody Does It Better, Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough, You Know My Name and Skyfall are all acceptable answers, but Goldfinger's iconic for a reason. Shirley Bassey singing the devil back into hell, and a raunchy brass section- all you need.

I'm not counting On Her Majesty's Secret Service, because that's just one of the great film scores press-ganged into title sequence service, but that would be a challenger.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
  • You Know My Name
  • Live and Let Die
  • A View To A Kill
  • Nobody Does It Better
  • Goldeneye
  • Goldfinger
  • Thunderball

For the people who like Thunderball.... why? The lyrics are a mess and the music itself is kind of rote Bond. Yeah, Tom Jones blows it out of the water, but the song? I don't know.

all true, particularly the lyrics which are ridiculous. But it's still fun.

top 14

1- Nobody Does It better
2- Goldfinger
3- Live and Let Die
4- You Know My Name
5- The World is Not Enough
6- Diamonds Are Forever
7- You Only Live Twice
8- All Time High
9- Skyfall
10- Moonraker
11- For Your Eyes Only
13: OHMSS instrumental
14: We Have all the time in the world

The only one so far that I absolutely hate is that dreck from Die Another Day, but since that whole film is a bit of an abomination, we'll ignore it. As for the new one, I'll reserve judgement till I see it in the film. The songs from license to Kill and Goldeney sound like they're cheesy pastiche's of 60's Bond songs. Another Way to Die is, different but I don't despise it. At least it wasn't actually called Quantum of Solace.

Thunderball originally had a better song ( sung by Dione Warwick, I think) called 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' but they were still hung up on having the movie title in the song title. You can hear the tune for that as an instrumental in parts of the OST for Goldfinger and Thunderball.
