21:9 Gaming Thread | That cinematic feel

Was just going through the console screenshot thread, 16:9 suddenly isn't looking very widescreen anymore :/ Don't think I could ever go back.

Hey Gaf,

just got my LG 34UM95P this weekend. So far so good, really satisfied with it. Drivers etc. are up to date, i still need to make the color calibration, just fyi. Some fonts in some applications look really blurred. Steam for example. Windows fonts etc. all look good, is it because some fonts are not made for some specific resolutions?

Edit: Uploaded an example image to show what i mean:

As you can see the fonts in the steam login window look blurred somehow while diablo icon is sharp.

Dell (US) has the U3415W plus a $300 Dell eGift Card for $774 right now. Get another 5% back with the free Dell Advantage Rewards program. There's also 10% back if you have a Discover card and go through their portal.

I'm looking forward to using the built in KVM features to also use it with my gaming desktop. Shadowrun: Hong Kong will be a great use with that.

I jumped in on this deal. It was just too good to pass up.

So far I've played Star Citizen, Ethan Carter, MGS GZ, and Project Cars. 21:9 is awesome, it just feels so right. I can never go back.

Would.

Lol @ that bullshit non-existent bezel.

I would totally buy one if it had a VA panel, can't stand playing space sims with the dull greys of IPS.

Looks great. Love the bezel-less design.

But I've been reading that it's only 60hz compared to the Acer Predator's 75hz.

A 100hz monitor with those specs would be perfect.

It's 100hz, at least according to CNET.

Oh shit! I was looking at the PG34Q, whereas this is the PG348Q.

My bad. 100hz is awesome. Might sell my ROG Swift and pick one of these up. Odds of this being under $1K?

I think the Acer equivalent is going to be $1200-1300 so this will probably be around the same.

Will wait for a price drop, but man that monitor is more or less exactly what I want. If I wasn't buying a new car in the next month, I'd probably spring for it at full price. Luckily I have a monitor mount, so I could skip that god-awful "extreme" stand.

That really is one of the ugliest monitor stands I've seen. Dont know what they were thinking.

Just look at the Dell U3415W. Simple. Functional. That's what I want.

$300 Dell egift card coming my way so I'll be picking up a u34w15 sometime in the next few months. I will need a new desk for it. Dell has a 0 dead pixel guarantee, right?

Dunno... but I've had 3 come across my desk and no dead pixels on any of them.

Be prepared for a WORLD of backlight bleed though. Like.... the worst you've seen.

So is there any chance of a 29" G-sync monitor coming out? 34" is going to be a bit large and expensive for me, plus I would really prefer a VESA mount.

Can't find anything on google, but I would expect Asus and Acer and perhaps someone else, will want to bring G-sync to, uh, not the highest range of monitors? I'm not going to be buying very soon so I can wait but I am torn between 16:9 G sync and 21:9 since there doesn't seem to be a 29" G sync announced currently....(?)

No. The guarantee's only for permanently lit pixels, not dead ones.

Annoying cus I've got one and only one, but fortunately it's out of sight most of the time over on the far left side.

Review: Acer Predator XR341CK

The Acer Predator XR341CK is quite possibly the most impressive gaming monitor on the market at the moment,
though with a price of $1,099/£839 any prospective buyer would certainly hope for as much.

Acer has made smart design decisions to offer a complete gaming monitor experience
- a smooth 75Hz refresh rate at a stunning resolution on a panel that is surprisingly responsive. Factoring in all the other benefits
- IPS viewing angles, a sleek appearance, abundant connectivity and a functional stand
- and it's hard to fault the Acer XR341CK in any areas aside from its price and noticeable IPS glow on dark content.

This monitor seems to go on sale in Germany next week, would love too hear some impressions, it has been on my radar for a long time now.

Just about to go for the Samsung S34E790C in the UK, however its not for gaming but for use with a macbook pro retina, any reason to worry about compatibility ? I've read a bunch of reviews and they seem pretty positive on the Samsung, plus it has height adjustment and Vesa mounts.

Well, it's taking them a while to release it.

Patience.
You will be thankful if you wait, Plus if you wait and still don't get the G-Sync model then I'd imagine the other models will go down in price by then.

I would be okay with 29" 2560x1080 with Gsync, is there anything out yet?

No annoyingly. The whole G-sync ultrawide monitors are coming out extremely slow. I don't believe there is any 29" G-sync model announced.

Any word on release date?

I think that's all current games; Arkham Knight and MGS5 do the same.

Proud owner of a U3415W here. 21:9 is truly the master race of the master race.

Yeah It personally doesn't bother me if cutscenes are 16:9 but I know it bothers some people so I thought i'd mention it.

I dunno I can wait that long. :/

Up to you dude, but lots of people do say that G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade.

Depends if you want to jump on the bandwagon with 21:9 or not.
Personally I advise waiting but do what you feel is best.

I'm in the boat that my monitor died last week, I'd love to get a 21:9 with G-Sync (prob 29" price reasons) but I can't not have a monitor.

My wife is currently bringing home an LG 29UM65 home after lots and lots of debate. (I'd really prefer the Samsung 34" Curved VA ultra wide, but I can't sell her on the nearly 900€ cost. I'm not a fan of IPS because of the bleed/glow issues)

I like the idea of 2560x1080 for now as it gives me more space for work (programming/documentation) and means I can play games at 1920x1080 reasonably if I need the FPS. (I was using an LG L204wt 1680x1050 till it died)

So the ASUS 34" GSync monitor is an early 2016 release now? Is there any reason to not get the Acer instead of it? Just bought a ROG Swift so I have a monitor while waiting for one of these 34" inch monitors to drop.

My impression is that Acer monitors have lower QC compared to ASUS. While not really basing this on any particular "hard evidence", I see a lot more complaints about Acer than ASUS, but if the Acer one comes out this year and reports on QC aren't terrible I might get it instead of the ASUS one (I like the aesthetics more)

Huh. With all the apparent issues the ROG Swift had vs the XB270HU I expected the Acer to have less problems. Interesting.

The PG348Q sounds really nice! 34" 3440x1440 with Gsync and 100Hz.

Both the Acer and the Asus have the exact same specs as far as I know.

If you people are worried about backlight bleed on the Acer... I assure you it won't be any worse than any other 3440x1440 IPS monitor out there right now. The Asus will probably be the exact same (I think they're all using teh same panel but... correct me if I'm wrong).
