LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

It's driving me insane that there aren't any good videos/pictures of the in-game instructions yet. I get that you're supposed to build it during the levels and whatnot, but I just want to assemble my darn LEGO Portal 2 stuff! :(

It's Day 1. People are just getting into the content. Someone will hopefully get this stuff up soon though.

Putting this stuff together based on images off the box can be fun though.

Yeah, but when you have things hidden beneath panels and on the back it's pretty tough.

Finally got this much built at least. So I guess the game tells me how to build the level sets or something? Cuz I noticed there was no instructions for those.

Feels pretty good to build something like this that felt kinda elaborate. I honestly think I've never built a Lego set before...all I had as a kid was just random blocks that I didn't know what to make with.

Is there are collection element to this game? Collecting parts, costumes ect? Wondering if its just running around and doing Lego stuff. Is there a carrot to chase?

I've never purchased additional figures for any of these games. I just play the base set, then I'm done.

I wish I could just bypass things, but I guess some OCD kicks in and when I see a wall or something that requires a character to access the area that I don't have, it is hard for me to bypass it. It is the old "gotta get every gold coin" but instead of accessing the area figuring out a puzzle or a platforming event, you need to go out and buy a character with that trait to unlock that area.

From my understanding you collect the following:
-Lego Studs: They expand the hub-worlds for each of the franchise adventure levels. It unlocks events to experience, more places to visit in the hubs, and more
-Gold Bricks: Collecting X amount seems to unlock a new portal to jump through (in the spot with the other franchise adventure levels)
-Lego Canisters: Not sure what they unlock but there are at least 10 per world. In past games, they helped unlock characters and other stuff, but here, not sure what their purpose is....

Oh yeah. There are special hidden golden bricks to collect, there are a certain amount per level and it is a challenge to find them all. There are also just regular lego pieces to collect that it tracks as well. I think there is something else, just looked at the menu briefly before tuning into Sunday night Football, but definitely it is a game with collecting things.

How do I get the building prompts to show up again? Accidentally chose not to save my scooby snack after I built it.

I think you need to put one of the Scooby Doo characters and it should prompt you to build it again, since it did not save. I would assume there is a menu with somewhere to review builds since some people will take them apart. I did the same thing at the beginning of the game and it I did not save and it had me re-build the bat mobile when I reloaded the game.

Beat Portal 2 and it was awesome. Seems there is replay because I needed Superman to get the missing collectables. It is one level + one world per Level Pack. Seems Team Packs also unlock a world.

Overall another solid Traveler's Tales Lego game.

So no character unlocking at all other than purchase of new minifigs in packs? That kinda sucks. I was hoping that while each IP would have the most prominent figures available only through minifigs that there'd be scads of minor ones to unlock that'd never make it for sale as a minifig. Just thinking of all the oddball characters in prior games that I really enjoyed unlocking like Lobot or a Thugee or any other minor character...

Yeah, I needed Superman playing through the first level of the main story line as well. Guess I am getting Superman tomorrow since he has both strength and laser ability, which has been 2 areas I have been locked out of.

Too bad the Lego web site does not have the stats for the characters so you know which ones have which abilities. For example, Bad Cop from the Lego Movie also has Laser ability, which I did not know. In game there is a menu, but it would be good to have had it on the website so you could call it up on your phone while you shop for figures.

Going to pick up Superman and 1 Chima and Ninjago figure since I don't have any of the later 2.

OK, picking it up tomorrow and will definitely pick up the scooby team pack and maybe the simpsons level pack, unless the feedback of the simpsons pack isn't good or another recommendation is made.

Superman doesn't come out till like May I think. Cyborg might have laser ability.

You are right, he is not out. Hmmm. Anyone know which other characters that are out that has both Laser and Strength? So far in the single player campaign, I need a character that has those 2 attributes.

Here is a great link that has the attributes for the currently available characters. As you play through the game, there are certain areas that require a character that has a Laser ability of Super Strength ability. Having a character that has those grants access to these locked areas. This site which is something that originally was not up on Lego's web site has the characters and all the attributes and whatever vehicle/item that character comes with.

http://www.lego.com/en-us/dimensions/characters

I was able to find out that Cyborg which is out now has both Laser and Super Strength which is what I need to open the first 2 locked out areas that I need to access.

Was just looking at amazon, and some of these sets aren't even coming out til January and March. The fact that Superman was one of the first characters it showed you couldn't do something without, and he doesn't come out til March, almost makes me kinda wish I had just waited.

They should somehow make Aquaman a required character to get. That would be hilarious.

Give them time and I wouldn't be surprised if they do have one of aqua man. Actually, I would love if Sony, MS, and Nintendo had exclusive level packs/characters for lego dimensions on the PS4, Xbox One and the WII U.

For instance, the Lego Dimensions for the PS4 would have an Uncharted level pack and the Xbox one would have a Halo level pack. Nintendo would get a Mario or Zelda level pack.

Aquaman is coming. I believe he in Wave 4.

It seems you but the character on and then hold triange and choose the bottom option. Scooby has the scooby snack and Shaggy has the mystery mobile.

Yeah, it's a real bummer. I'd really like to play as the rest of mystery inc for example which would have been an option in any other Lego game :/

Less characters is a shame no doubt, however I love the attention to detail they've poured into the characters we are getting. None more so than the 12th Doctor, who is basically 13 characters in one.

I'm hoping for some more Universal, Sony and WB stuff. Looney Tunes would be good. James Bond would offer a slew of stuff. Harry Potter is an obvious omission from previous Lego games, and one Warner Bros should be able to get.

I also want horror stuff. As dumb as it sounds, similar to how they did the family friendly version of Jurassic Park where no one died, they could really have fun with someone like Freddy Krueger. A Lego Freddy would be pretty awesome.

Also, Chase McCain. We need Chase. Lego City Undercover needs to come to this as well.

Tell you the truth, I think it will be more beneficial buying the actual figure that you can put on your desk than buy it as dlc inside the game.

For instance, you know you will have that figure when a new story/campaign disc/game comes out and should be compatible to use in some capacity.

I have a question for those how have the the portal or pad (may get flamed for saying that word). How much space does it take up as I'm planning to have it on my desk as I don't have a coffee table in from my tv (odd layout).

Well my son decided he wants this for his birthday. I wasn't initially gonna get this but seeing the amount of hours my kids have poured into Lego games I'm gonna go ahead and get this for him.

What was stock like at the stores? I plan to pick some stuff up tomorrow.

Plentiful. If you have a TRU near you, you get a $10.00 GC with purchase of the Starter set and they have a separate deal on figures/packs where if you buy $35 or more you also get a $10.00 GC. If you have the Best Buy Gamers Club you get 20% off on your items. So both Stores offer good deals and like I said, plenty of stock.

While the deals aren't as good as Toys R Us or Best Buy, my local GameStop has all the level packs in stock alongside a great deal of the fun packs. The only one I didn't see was the Scooby-Doo Team Pack; everything else (I think?) was there.

Thanks to it literally being Lego blocks/sets, they can mass produce it a lot faster than say the Infinity Figures, Skylanders Figures/Vehicles, and Amiibo Figures. So, expect a lot of Dimensions Fun Sets/Level Sets/Team Sets to be plentiful in stock regardless where you go to get them :).

Ya its one of the reasons I rated it a Wait for a Sale.

There is some good in this but no where near that starting cost. Nor the level packs either.
Sadly not sure if much of this will ever see a normal sale. Not sure Lego toys ever do but I could be wrong.
Also as the game went on the portal stuff actually becomes really bothersome especially with the jankiness it can sometimes show. I read about it prior to noticing it myself but hey you know what. For a freshman effort a pretty ok title.

Okay, so what happens if you put, say, Chell on the portal while playing the regular story stuff? Will idk Gandalf be replaced by her for the gameplay, or for everything including movies? Will the game not allow it at all, and the characters can only be played within their specific one story level?

In Canada Amiibos are $15.99 and the Lego Dimension's Fun Packs are still priced $14.99. So it doesn't look so bad. The Fun Packs are definitely well priced.

Looks like I'm importing from Canada then (when I jump in) Can Get two fun packs shipped to uk for just over £17, when individually they're £15 here.

Watching a live twitch feed and I'm really impressed. It's way less "kids oriented" gameplay than I though.

Lego games are secretly targeted to two different sets of people: kids, and adults who have nostalgia for Lego and the IPs. Like Lego City Undercover was full of references for action movies from the 80's and 70's, and one level was a parody of Shawshank Redemption. Kids wouldn't get that stuff, but their parents would. Dimensions seems to do the same thing. The Chima and Ninjago is for the kids, but how many children today care about IPs like Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Scooby Doo and Portal?

Honestly, sitting down here and putting together some Lego is the most soothing thing ever. I get why adults are into it. It's no different than doing a jigsaw puzzle. It's relaxing.

Sure. I was rolling my eyes once my husband got into building Legos, but then he bought a Lego Death Star for us to build together and we had a lot of fun putting it together. Since then we have built lots of sets together. It's just fun and relaxing, especially with a family member.

There are other characters with both laser and strength, it doesn't need to be Superman.

*Looks up Lego Death Star on amazon.... $564.50....*
and this is why I never got into building Lego before.

I felt that way putting together the portal with this set...was my first time building a Lego set I think, and I'd love to do it more, but when the price of these is always so god damn high, I find it hard that I could ever relax after thinking about what I just spent to get it.

Any character can be used in any level, there's no restrictions at all.

I've heard that the base supports up to 7 objects at once, as in any combination of 7 characters, vehicles, items, etc.

What happens if you have 7 characters on there at once though? Do you just have a big group of AI dudes following you around all the time?

I just watched a walkthrough of the Back to the Future level that comes with the Marty level pack, and it seems really cool, goes through the story of the movie....but the guy on youtube finished the level in 18 minutes :S

Honestly the level packs are absolutely trash if your buying them for game content. Not being rude but even exploring them a long time or taking your time its just insane.

That's really kinda shitty to, considering the price of those packs are close to what you can get a full Lego game for now. I kinda had hoped that that's what they'd be, basically a set of levels, like the Infinity games do with their playsets, at least a few hours, if not as long as a regular Lego game.

The price they're charging for this package, it does not seem unreasonable to hope for that either. I mean, you could buy any Lego game for close to $20-30 at most now, and if you never played it before, you get hours and hours of content. The only difference I've seen so far in this game, is the settings of the content, and the mashup nature of it. As far as a video game goes anyway...having the figures is novel, but... I dunno.

Agreed.

I am doing a big blowout video for the channel for christmas covering all the toys to life games(I did a comparison last year for Infinity at Trap Team) but I have to say. I have had 2 major surprises this year.

Skylanders Superchargers is the cheapest to see all content by a landslide and is bigger than previous entries.
Lego Level pricing is absolutely insane.

I know it works with up to 4. I had 3 characters and the Batmobile.

It seems the game doesn't really work without the update. If you don't have it the game doesn't prompt you to build the Batmobile. Looks like we'll be waiting tomorrow to actually play. PSN says 6 hours for the patch....

Yes pretty much. I had 4 plus 3 objects that followed me.

The price is a bit high, but all Legos are overpriced...

I'm actually going to return Portal 2 and BTTF level packs to the store. BTTF had a toy tag that wouldn't register, just totally dead, but the little bit of the hub world and story mission we played was disappointing. I love those properties, too, so I'm a little sad.

We have also been getting a ton of bugs, a few of which were game breaking and had to quit the level and start over.

On top of all that, I don't really like how "active" the portal play is having to constantly switch players around on the pad. I'm sure if I were 8 sitting on the floor it would be fun so I get the idea, but it's not fun for my wife and me and our setup in our game room.

Also, we just got Skylanders Superchargers and we both kind of enjoy the gameplay there more so the extra Lego goes back for now while it gets some bugs fixed and maybe a good sale to stack with my GCU.
