Android Wear |OT| 2nd Gen is Here

So, I was thinking of swapping back to an android phone soon because I'm getting fed up of not being able to use microsd cards for memory expansion.

I have an apple watch, so which android watch would be most like it? I'd like to swap to a round screen watch that lets you customise the faces, but still has pretty good fitness options.

Is the moto 360 (2014) a good buy?

If you want an entry level smartwatch, sure.

Honestly I would pony up the cash for a 2nd gen watch. The 1st gen Moto 360 is slow, the battery life isn't the greatest and it lags at times when lifting your wrist to check the time. Plus the bands are a pain in the ass to change.

I'm actually looking to replace mine with a 2nd gen soon.

Ahh okay I see. Anything good for the LG watch R?

Ended up getting a Sony Smartwatch2 on sale for 50 bucks, and I'm sold on the concept.

I'm a traditional watch guy, lots of practical watched like Citizen atomic Eco drives and seiko and orient automatics, but the utility of even that obsolete smartwatch was great.

Thinking of either the Moto 360 2015 or the Huawei watch, but I'm not sure how much I trust Huawei as an entity lol and it's also more expensive...

When does the new 360 come out?

The only issue I've noticed so far with my new Moto 360 is that the step counter doesn't work as well as I'd like. Two days ago it recorded alright but yesterday I wore it around the house for half the day but it said I had zero steps.

Also I seem to have lost the Google Fit watchface I had. Not sure how to get that back...

EDIT: Deleted the Moto fitness app, wiped my 360 and now Fit is back and working. Fit seems to work way better than the Moto app.

This actually only counts for the 360, the other "1st gen" watches already had the hardware they've now put in the 360 2.

In fact, all the watches run the exact same OS and roughly the same hardware (Sony SW3 comes with a GPS chip, if that matters to you), so it's mostly just deciding which look you mostly enjoy.

Already managed to chip the frame. Watches don't get along with my clumsiness.

Have had multiple people ask about the watch though which is nice in the sense that all of them thought it was a pretty nice watch and not a toy.

One annoying bug though, have a group text chat going for one of my math courses and for whatever reason it doesn't treat the chain as a normal text message. Can only read one response at a time and have to pull out my phone to properly read them. Rather annoying.

Do bands from the first gen of the 360 work on the 2nd gen? I have the tylt sport band and was wondering if I could use it on the 42mm mens 2nd gen.

I really want to get the second generation of the 360, but missing NFC is a big thing for me.

Since I'm on a Note 4, I might actually get the Gear S2 then.

Is anyone who has a huawei watch and an iphone able to connect them? I'm using a 5c temporarily and wanted to see how the functionality of it is before I grab a 6s. Everytime I try to sync them, the phone and watch would see each other but then won't connect. i'm on ios 9.0.2 and latest update for the watch as well.

The Gear S2 looks really good as a wearable. Tizen just *might* be a good thing here, since AW can't be customized to this extent:

NFC + plus the watch isn't tied to Samsung phones anymore. Cons: ugly TW colours, no speakers

not sure what use that nfc will be without a samsung phone tho along with some of the other advanced features

plus tizen... lol, no thanks i like having loads of choice of apps and faces

Dude it's been out for weeks.

Ah yeah, didn't realize because Motomaker was giving me a date pretty far out.

Now I'm just trying to figure out which one I should get:

Huawei - sick build, no flat tire
Moto 360 - 50 dollars cheaper, flat tire
S2 Classic- amazing bezel utility, but Tizen

Great summary... definitely a dilemma.

The other option is wait for 3rd gen. I don't know which I'll do, but I know if I'm dropping 300+ bones on a watch I want it to be around for a several years.

I think for me I need to see a comprehensive comparison between the S2's Tizen OS and Android wear. Because I think the bezel navigation is so genius...

Ok fuck ya'll. Couldn't get an S2 Classic so I picked up the Huawei Watch. Battery life is pretty godlike
for a watch
. AW still weak but eh. Looks is all that matters at this point.

Can't wait for all the people at work ask me if that's the Apple Watch.

The navigation is interesting, but Tizen is such a dead end for a consumer product, I don't know why anyone would waste money on it.

Yeah, that's the only dilemma I have. For me the main thing I want from a smartwatch is notifications and some basic phone control and functionality. I think the more future proof purchase is probably AW though, yeah. Maybe get an S2 or Tizen product once they're able to prove the ecosystem can thrive.

Does Best Buy carry the 360 and Huawei in stores? I might go check them out.

I picked up my Huawei at BB. I believe they have 360s as well and they are definitely more popular since they have like half an aisle dedicated to them. Only downside is that there are so many models, the one you may want may not be on hand. It's a good way to see the size difference between the 42 and 46mm versions and which one looks better for your wrist. In the end if you end up picking the 360, you may just be better off getting it on Moto's site unless they have the specific model you want in stock.

That said, by the time Android Wear becomes good, the watch you buy now might be obsolete as well.

Yeah I mainly want to see size differences. If I were to get the 360 it would definitely be on Motomaker. Hell, even if I were to get a Huawei I'd probably get it from Amazon....

Aaaaaahhhhhh the indecisiveness haha.

Tempted to pick up the gunmetal/leather Zenwatch 2 from Best Buy. That price is just too good. Yeah I prefer the round watches but $300+ is steep for nearly identical functionality.

Saw the 360 in person at bb and its large screen looks really good. Fuck the sexist marketing tho. Also couldn't use it since it just ran the demo. They didn't have the other aw watches either. Think I'll wait for a holiday sale to pick one up.

TBH the 360 is better value and a better buy in most circumstances because of how customizable they are and how it looks. Downsides are the LCD screen and the flat tire which bothers me no matter how long I've had the original.

I may really consider returning my Huawei Watch. It is nice as hell, but the price tag is just too steep for something I probably am just wearing to look fly. I may opt for the Zenwatch 2 when the smaller one is available.

Sooo...considering that the 46mm Moto 360 is 350 as well...which one would you get?

Imo, none of the watches are a good buy for more than $250. It's still very early days and battery degradation is going to turn these useless in two years. You can get a relatively nice regular watch for $350, which lasts longer.

But I get that gadget lust is a real thing.

Which is why I'm returning my Huawei. As nice as it is, I can't justify the $350. Zenwatch 2 with the same functionality and just a little bit uglier is so much better value. How do people justify Apple Watch purchases?

Yeah you're probably right. I already have my fair share of Citizen Atomic Eco Drives, Orients, Seikos, Bulovas, Casios...I have a bit of a problem.

Gonna go to Best Buy today.

Ended up going to Best Buy on my way home from work. They didn't have any Huawei watches on display, and a worker was taking an open box out for another customer right as I was walking in. The other guy didn't like it, I ended up buying it for $300 because of the open box...

Huh. Well lets see how this is.

Got a TYLT band for my Moto 360 gen 2, it's a nice band but the "one size" thing doesn't work well. The clasp side band is too long so the clasp ends up being on the side of my wrist and sticking out a bit. Might try the 42mm band.

Anywhere else selling bands for the gen 2 yet? I need a black leather one as well.

How was battery life on your Huawei watch?

Mine has been inconsistent these past two days. Which is to say, really bad.

Sweet, Best Buy close to me has the Zenwatch 2 in stock now. Will check it out this weekend and may end up bringing one home with me!
