LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

On top of all that, I don't really like how "active" the portal play is having to constantly switch players around on the pad. I'm sure if I were 8 sitting on the floor it would be fun so I get the idea, but it's not fun for my wife and me and our setup in our game room.
I can agree with this. Wouldn't mind if it was BT wireless so I could put it near me, but having to be on the floor is really annoying.

So, I'm not too big of a fan of the Lego movie but what appeals to me are the Ghostbusters and Back to the Future level and toy packs. Am I reading the last few pages right that it is not recommended to get the game if you're mainly in it for those?

play any Lego game first and if you like it you might want to try it out, but you'd be paying a lot of money for very little BTTF and Ghostbusters gameplay. Though what little there is is handled very well with an excellent presentation.

I think this is a good starting point. I'll probably have to get someone from LEGO Ninjago at some point.

I'm actually going to return Portal 2 and BTTF level packs to the store. BTTF had a toy tag that wouldn't register, just totally dead, but the little bit of the hub world and story mission we played was disappointing. I love those properties, too, so I'm a little sad.

We have also been getting a ton of bugs, a few of which were game breaking and had to quit the level and start over.

Also, we just got Skylanders Superchargers and we both kind of enjoy the gameplay there more so the extra Lego goes back for now while it gets some bugs fixed and maybe a good sale to stack with my GCU.

I think I'm going to hold off buying my own.

It's driving me insane that there aren't any good videos/pictures of the in-game instructions yet. I get that you're supposed to build it during the levels and whatnot, but I just want to assemble my darn LEGO Portal 2 stuff! :(
Wait, so the packs don't come with paper instructions like normal LEGO sets? You have to wait for an in-game tutorial to pop up?

There's paper instructions to build the minifigs. Then you put them on the portal to get a digital booklet to build their vehicle/gadget.

This game only releases in March 2016 here in Belgium. Except for in 2 stores, Maxi Toys and something else I haven't discovered yet.

The fuck Warner?

Traded in some crap I didn't want anymore, paid off PS4 Lego Dimensions, Portal 2 Pack, and Jurassic World pack.

Playing co-op throughout, I finished the first "world" level, Wizard of Oz. the mechanics of the portal are neat, the writing and VO work is excellent, and the animations are all unique.

I used Owen for most of the Oz level, and he comments on a bunch of situations, but it seems to be I have heard each line of his already. He also has a line for mounting Blue/Velociraptor, and speaking of, it has the WEIRDEST run cycle I've seen thus far in a lego game.

The more I hear about this the more I am interested. I liked the previous Lego games, and think this would be pretty neat to play with my girlfriend. However, I don't like the price of the add on packs and the starter set seems very steep. Would I get much value out of this just going for the base game?

I found if a build is not popping up, hold Triangle and scroll to the bottom. Some characters can only build a certain type of object/vehicle. Took me awhile to get Scooby Snacks plan to pop up.

Trying to understand,

So if I buy a Level pack for a specific franchise, does this infer that the base game does not include levels with said franchise in it? If not, how are the levels presented in game? No differently as they were in Disney Infinity?
Oh no, the main game includes a level of all franchises.
The level pack adds one level. HUB worlds require a character from it to access.

The levels are presented much like if you ever watch the Fairly Oddparents special "Channel Surfing", kind of like that.

So the base from what I played seems to be worth the price. Not so sure about the level packs yet considering the one level they contain ranges from 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the pack. I am sure it is more to 100% it, but I cannot 100% it in the current build.

Overall though, Skylanders/Infinity seems to be a better value for your buck overall. I still like the game, but it feels overpriced for what you get out of the level packs. The appeal really comes from "Do you want a Legos game where you can make your own characters?" If Yes, buy it. If No, then don't.

Ya Superchargers sort of nailed it this time for Skylanders.
I had a lot of bugs as well and indicated them in my review. 1-2 reload causing but the big one is that, and a lot of people are starting to report this, the portal won't update sometimes during puzzles if you already have some of the puzzle correct when it starts. So sometimes you think you have the answer wrong but what you need to do is...lift your character off the portal so it forgets where they are, then...put them back in the same space. Really odd.

As for the portal action, ya its crazy in some levels. I play kicked back on my couch but for this game I had to change all that as the portal requires a couple fairly fast switches as your being attacked. Its different and its unique but after a couple hours of that the entire group was solidly over it.

Man, I reeeeeally love the characters and subject matter they infused into this game but all Lego games i've played have resulted in me getting bored fairly quickly. The game play, to me, is just redundant and as I can see the brilliance in the characters and writing, it never seems enough to keep me engaged for more than a couple hours.

Really excited to read impressions and watch some LPs as if any game could pull me in the Lego universe, it would be one that has GLaDOS, Homer, Marty McFly, Wheatley, Gollum and Scooby Doo.

My suggestion for those of us who want to unlock everything is to wait until a master list is created of all character abilities and vehicle abilities, including rebuilds.

It won't be until that point that we're able to determine what to purchase for best price/unlock ratio.

I think I already got the Lego collecting bug. Picked up the Xbox one starter pack and the scooby doo pack.....But, after seeing the Simpsons level pack in the store, I couldn't resist and bought that as well.

It's like the LEGO version of the amiibo thirst.

This is true.

I think Lego Dimensions really did a great job attracting every age bracket as well, not just kids. Heck, when I was grabbing my copy of Lego Dimensions, another adult was grabbing it for himself as all and when he saw the back to the future pack, he was excited about it had it. What until ghostbusters and Dr Who comes out.

In the long run, Lego Dimensions will outsell and outlive both Disney Infinity and the amiibos since the # of different worlds and characters you can have far outstrip what Disney and Nintendo can do.

Once the star wars craze or characters run ends on disney infinity 3.0 in spring, I bet you that Disney will announce Disney Infinity 4.0 and force you to buy another pack and I don't think that compatibly is that great with older disney infinity characters. IMO, the toy box is pretty boring after trying out Disney Infinity 2.0.

I think Disney Infinity may be finished after this year. The 3.0 starter pack, yes the 3.0 starter pack, is already reduced to $49.99 on Amazon...less than one month after release.

Yooo, you can spend studs to upgrade all items/vehicles from each pack.

That's how you unlock alternate builds, buy 10 upgrades, and than spend a certain amount + gold bricks to unlock the next tier.

Upgraded the Velociraptor, and unlocked Jumping for it, along with a fire missile(making the raptor make that iconic barking it does), and the next unlock can break cracked legos.

Pick mine up last night. Played about 3 hours and haven't noticed any glitches so far. Sometimes I have to lift a character off the base and put them down in the same spot, but beyond that it seems like a typical Lego game. Pretty fun, great writing. I'm enjoying the Simpsons Adventure world. Tons of crap to do it in.

Have been keeping an eye on this, as I wanted to see if the amount of content would live up to the absurd price, especially considering past LEGO videogames have a reputation for giving you a big bang for your buck.

It looks like this is quite the ripoff, unless you're the type who reeeeally wants to build and display the LEGO. It seems like even when you consider all of the available content, you still have less than the average LEGO DC/Marvel title.

This was pretty much my exact fear, that their strategy was to take the existing LEGO game formula, strip it apart, and sell it back to you piecemeal.

I'll go Superchargers this time out, as that one ironically seems to have the lowest monetary barrier of entry of all the skylanders titles.

I think it still remains to be seen exactly what the total cost is to unlock all content. We're all still waiting for a list that includes every character ability and every vehicle ability, including from rebuilds.

Only then will we know exactly what the minimum cost is to unlock it all.

Still, it's a fucking lot. Especially since Dimensions the game doesn't seem to actively eclipse every other past LEGO videogame in terms of content. This is a bit of an edge case compared to Infinity and Skylanders, as there are like 30 LEGO titles that have set a precedent for consistent amounts of content.

For every thing I see/hear that makes me want to get the game, I see/hear something else that turns me off. I did play with LEGO as a kid and I have enjoyed the recent LEGO games I've played (LEGO Star Wars III and Pirates of the Caribbean on 3DS, LEGO City Undercover on the Wii U, and Jurassic World on PS4), but man, those prices! If the starter set was competitive with Infinity and Skylanders from a pricing standpoint and the level/fun/team packs were 15-20% cheaper, I'd be much more apt to bite. It's just too steep when I'm already fairly interested in Skylanders Superchargers and have a teeny bit of curiosity about Infinity 3.0 (because of Star Wars).

For the most part, I'm basing the statement about the price on the level packs specifically because it sounds as though they're not exactly a lot of content, gameplay wise. $30 for a level I can finish in 20 minutes just seems very, very steep; regardless of the fact I'm getting a mini-figure and one or two accessories. Maybe I'm just getting old and forget how expensive LEGO sets were in general.

What makes a wait-and-see approach difficult is us not knowing if waves of level/team/fun packs will disappear from store shelves completely when new waves are released. I mean LEGO stuff is notorious for being one-and-done sort of things; you don't get them when they're new, prepare to pay double (or more) months down the road to get one.

I'd say that's a definite possibility, especially given that some of the minifigures which are part of Dimensions seem to be exclusive to Dimensions. Serious LEGO collectors who don't play video games will nonetheless hunt these down.

Disney Infinity and Skylanders starter packs are always heavily discounted during the holidays. I'm going to wait until I can get the Lego kit for $60 or less.

I have a feeling that, as a LEGO product, discounts on Dimensions and it's sets are going to be more rare than people are used to.

I don't think that's a LEGO decision. this thing is being sold at places where LEGO isnt. If Best Buy needs shelf space and the sets aren't moving, they'll drop the price.

To anyone who owns everything (or nearly?) from Wave 1, I have a question:

I was wondering if you could rank your top characters to use in-game. Not based on how unique the minifig, it's printings or parts are... just based purely on how fun, useful, cool, etc. the minifig and/or its included vehicle/gadgets are for in-game use.

I have the Starter and a few level packs, trying to decide the best strategy for filling out my collection without buying EVERYTHING.

Jay from Ninjago is a ninja with nun-chucks that can go stealth invisible while also fixing electrical things. Also has acrobat abilities. Seems to be a set of harder to find traits.

Very interesting!! i was trying to decide what the best ninjago figure would be to get right now since you need one to access their adventure world. Jay is in the running! Might pick him up tomorrow.

Would love some more opinions!

(wish I could play the game right now... it's installing a 5.5GB patch very slowly and I have to get some rest before work... so I can't play until tomorrow)

TRU has the get $10 gift card if you spend $35 on Dimensions sets deal right now. I noticed the pricing is 16.99 there *shudder*, but that means you can buy 2 and be ALMOST at $35... it would be over $35 after tax. I wonder if that counts or if they'd make me buy 3?

I picked up the base set, and the Portal, Simpsons, and Back to the Future level sets. Probably won't dive into it until later this week as this was bought under the pretense of a birthday present for a four-year-old, though I'm sure it will be mostly the parents playing it.

I'm struggling to decide what sets I want to get. My starter pack should arrive tomorrow. I am definitely getting the Simpsons. I did want BTTF until it became apparent it can be finished in 18 mins.

I'm tempted by Portal. And Scooby Doo. And LOTR. But, I'm trying to limit myself to only two more packs for now.

Anyone got any more info about the length of the story packs?

Scooby Doo is not a level pack, it just the caracters.

Damn.
Now I need a standalone LEGO Simpsons game... :(

Now going to buy Dimensions I have enough junk laying around in my flat.
