If Mantis was a gaffer, with his thirst to negativity, he'd be all over this thread. If Volgin was a gaffer, he would be making a thread about it in Off-topic asking for relationship answers.
Right... how did XOF get a hold of The End's body again...?
They just recovered his pieces.Right... how did XOF get a hold of The End's body again...?

Remember XOF was the clean up crew.
Oh how convenient.Weren't they doing clean up work during Snake Eater in the shadows? Could have grabbed it then.
Your soldiers, over time, learn each others languages. It's a trojan since the beginning of the game. It's also to make it harder to track the progenitor parasite-if all your soldiers are learning each others languages, then it becomes harder pin pointing it once the quarantine starts.
It's pretty neat.
Unless I misunderstood, it seemed to just be Kikongo speakers but the symptoms developed at different rates for each person. Thus, if you didn't get to Code Talker quickly, more and more Kikongo-speaking people (in quarantine or otherwise) would start to succumb to the parasites.

So yeah, the only one who died was Chico, now I refuse to believe the pilot died either.Well, if the strategy guide is to be believed, the other soldier was Mosquito:

Did you read the quote? The members Cobra Unit explode when they die specifically so they don't leave a corpse behind. The bombs in them were designed to prevent that exact situation.
this is what i am assuming. Skull face came in just to vacuum it all up

That's in the guide? I have the guide and don't recall reading that. Not doubting you, though.Well, if the strategy guide is to be believed, the other soldier was Mosquito:

You don't disappear after you blow up, there's pieces and stuff left -_-
Ok I must have misremembered it then, because I swore Afrikaans was the problem when I looked at it given it was the overwhelmingly common language of the affected, but then Code Talker told me later it was Kikongo and I was confused about whether it had spread beyond Kikongo speakers or I was just a shitty version of the CDC.
Well then what the hell was the point of a bomb that wouldn't prevent the exact thing it's put in place to prevent!?

"Hey Kojima, you sure we should kill Chico, one of the most important characters in Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes, in a rather unceremoniously way with none of the other characters caring, but everyone else in the chopper should survive?"
Did you read the quote? The members Cobra Unit explode when they die specifically so they don't leave a corpse behind. The bombs in them were designed to prevent that exact situation.
Exactly. I imagine the cleanup part of the job involved removing any leftover matter from the blown-up bodies. You don't disappear after you blow up, there's pieces and stuff left -_-

That wiki page actually says Mosquito grew disillusioned with BB because he thought BB sold out Mother Base. The wiki says he thinks that because BB wasn't present during GZ. If Mosquito had accompanied BB on the GZ mission, he would know why BB was absent.
In hindsight, it's actually a pretty cool yet simple mechanic, having to identify what is causing the virus spreading around. First thing you'd look is at how they look...then stats....then languages. Someone going into it blind has to do detective work.
.....I'm watching the Giant Bomb playthrough of it, and that's one of the parts I"m most excited to see the player tackle since he's going in blind.
It's a two-part solution. Bomb kills the man to avoid him falling into enemy hands, and the cleanup crew handles the rest.Well then what the hell was the point of a bomb that wouldn't prevent the exact thing it's put in place to prevent!?

Drew's has already figured out the twist and hit a bear in the nuts. I'm sure he'll have fun with that part of the game.
That'd be a fun way to finally answer the question of whether Ocelot or Liquid killed Miller.really want a Phoenix Wright game done with MGS characters now. First case is Miller teaching Solid the ropes of lawyering, and the second case is solving Miller's murder

They didn't lie. The bomb leaves no corpse. Nothing immediately identifiable as a member of Cobra Unit. But I don't see how it's a gross retcon to say there was still a cleanup crew for the rest. Heck, it could be something as simple as cleaning up the area so it's not evident a bomb detonated in the first place. No, it's not a two part solution! It's explicitly stated that the bomb was there to leave no corpse, same as the Frogs in MGS4.
I'm sorry, but how can you view Big Boss surviving MG1 as some huge plot hole that needed filing in and not consider this a plot hole? That is some damn impressive cognitive dissonance.

In a stupid non-canon side op, sure.

I'll check what advice the guide has in a moment, but I just want to say this line made me laugh. But once he loses your scent, he sprints back to the chopper like a motherfucker and guards it, which utterly defeats the point of drawing him away.
I gotta be honest.
Even if you took out the confusing character motivation, and some of the weird issues it makes with continuity, I still don't think MGSV's story would be good. I still think it would be lame.
Part may be due to what I want from a Metal Gear Solid game. I'll be honest, other than the end of MGS2, I've never cared about the meta commentary of the series. Kojima planting butterfly kisses on my face, and telling me I'm Big Boss does nothing for me.
The reason I play the series is for the characters, and the character have never been so basic. To the point where the moments that are supposed to adhere us to them, come off really bizarre in contrast to the rest of the story.
Like the scene where Ocelot sees a soldier firing a gun like he used to, and points out how stupid that maneuver is.
And then he goes on to become the trenchcoat wearing revolver spinning idiot we love. This serious down to earth Ocelot doesn't make any sense.
Wait, when did I say anything about Eli? I don't think I've even talked about him in this thread. But my point is, why are you so willing to go through mental gymnastics to make such a blatant plot hole acceptable, but also say that Big Boss surviving his vague death in MG1 and returning in MG2 was something that needed to be further explained?
The way you keep presenting the events of MGSV makes me feel like I must have accidentally slept though 3/4s of the game. You keep extrapolating things that aren't really implied in the game itself. You're making the game more interesting in your head than it is in reality.
For example: In MGSV Eli has a grand total, in the entire game, of about 4 or 5 lines. How are we supposed to feel or know anything about him? How do you analyze something so insignificant?
But my point is, why are you so willing to go through mental gymnastics to make such a blatant plot hole acceptable, but also say that Big Boss surviving his vague death in MG1 and returning in MG2 was something that needed to be further explained?

I'm going for all the S-ranks of Chapter 1, and I've got them all except Hellbound, which I've been stuck at for hours.
I can perfect stealth all the way to Sahelanthropus with ease, and at that stage I get so fucking stuck it's ridiculous. The way this section is designed is just so, so poor. The idea is to draw him away from the chopper, hide, and then sneak back. But once he loses your scent, he sprints back to the chopper like a motherfucker and guards it, which utterly defeats the point of drawing him away.
So what the hell are you meant to do other than wait for a goddamn sandstorm? Someone please tell me there's a tactic here. I have no problem hiding from him, I have a problem getting back to the chopper before he runs back to it.
It is far easier to beat this guy in mission 31 (which I got first time on Extreme, too) than it is to hide from him. That just doesn't seem right.
1964 with jet platforms straight out of Johnny Quest and a guy that can go back into combat broken body parts and some light radiationNot much mental gymnastics needed. Where exactly were they going to get a bomb (in 1964) that not only blew the person up but also completely erased all traces of him? There was no such thing.
The bomb blows up and flesh and bones fly all over the place. Simple as that. The point was not to have a fully intact body for anyone to recover.
There is no plot hole there.

Huey was straight-up trying to murder dozens of people with the parasites?
There are two LZs. Send the chopper to the one you're not at; wait until he goes there, then call it back to the one you're at.
He can't get back in time.
It'd be weird if Kaz was putting up the Paz posters, since he left her on bad terms in the GZ chopper. Is it ever explicitly explained who put up the posters at MB? All signs point to crazy Miller but it came off to me initially like it's taking slight at Phantom Boss.
Leaving zero trace of a person would still not be an option by way of a bomb.
My biggest problem with the parasites is going back to explain the Cobra Unit. You didn't need to explain why The Pain had Bee powers or why The Fear was a weirdo. I was fine just assuming that WW2 super soldiers were just fucking magic. Why not?
This has probably been posted, but man, I would have done 70% less eye-rolling in this outfit -
