Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Oh dear lord, I forgot how ugly PS2 was.

so many memories. I remember asking my friemd back in 2002 or something why won't you buy a PS2? and he said it was a complicated console unlike ps1 lol.

Huh, I think it's still one of the best looking console systems.

The only difference between the PS1 and PS2 was, that the former played CDs and the latter DVDs. That doesn't sound complicated to me, unless you were developing games on it. ;)

thanks @loudninja - really interesting interview

You also had the Bloodborne DLC, finally. Are you hoping to work with From Software again?

Shuhei Yoshida: Absolutely. As you know, they're a publisher as well, and also occasionally developer. Being management of From Software, I can totally understand they're publishers, they have to manage their resources. But also they support Miyazaki-san's creative vision. Sometimes he might want to do something risky for them - in that case, we might have a chance of working with us. That was the case for Bloodborne. It was early, from a Japanese publisher's standpoint, to bet big on a PS4-only title. That was a quite large development effort. We're able to work closely with them. We have great relationships, and because of the nature of them being publishers and developers, it's a unique relationship. We wish to continue to work with them.

Come on Verendus...we know that you are Yoshida. Why only tell GAF? :D

Hasn't one of our insiders 'confirmed' that Sony has a multi-game deal with From? Believed to be three, but that not all three of those would be Bloodborne games. If that's true, I'd love From to develop a new ninja/stealth game. With NIOH looking so damn good maybe a few more Japanese publishers will make some Samurai action games. If they're done well it's not like they won't appeal over here in the west.

EDIT - and for what it's worth, of course Sony will have a multi-game deal with From. It's probably written into the contract. It's what I would do if I were Yoshida.

yes

Well, there'll be two further From collaborations, and that'll make three in total from them. So just by those alone, the answer is yes. Beyond them, the answer is still yes because there are others. There are always going to be collaborations for bigger titles. It depends on the working relationship, and synergy. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't. That's just normal.

What if verendus isn't one person but is actually several Sony Execs pulling the Spartacus maneuver?

only spencer knows

Didn't notice a thread on this but apparently Kill Strain "Private Access" invites are going out now...I got mine! only I probably can't do anything until Friday. Woo?

I got mine too. Will redeem it tomorrow. Are you sure it will be on Friday? I thought the email said Thursday AND Saturday. I will have to double check but I guess it also depends on your time zone.

Damn! These look good. Mind if I wear the second one as my avatar?

All free to use, the one I am using included since you know...I'll probably change my avatar in 2 weeks or less. I have a high casualty rate for avy's...

Media Molecule to release Dreams-created Crash game confirmed.

I am looking forward to whatever they have cooking up tomorrow. I'm very dissapointed with their choice but hey, that's what they want to do.

Why is that? What other choice do you have in mind?

It seems exactly what I would expect from them, something fresh and experimental, an area where they feel their strength's lay, expanding on it and bringing to the next level. Seems like a good choice for me.

I could understand if you mean business wise cause it's a risky endeavour, I personally don't see it doing too well, but it can definitely surprise. That said I think Sony is ok with having one very experimental but critically acclaimed studio, while budget and revenue is a secondary worry.

On the topic of Cerny, I wonder if we'll see a reveal of his next project this year at either PGW or PSXP. From what he said, it's going to be an indie-scale smaller project, so it's better suited for SCEE's show or PSXP, which also had a lot of 'indie-scale' project reveals last year.

So far, this year was pretty good in terms of quantity/quality of announcements, imo. Wonder how this will look by year's end. (crossed off refers to last year's announcements, to be replaced once this year's shows finishes)

I've been thinking, I wonder if sony will port their ps2 first party HD collections (sly, ratchet, GOW, ico etc) to PS4? It would be weird to have them trapped on ps3, especially if PS4 gets ps1/2 classics (because of the the HD collections those game aren't available as classics). It might be a lot of work for little reward though, and they have been getting some flack for their remasters...

Dreams is being streamed tomorrow for a first look by MM.

Don't know if this was posted in the thread yet.

No it's not. It's a tour of the MM studio and maybe if we're lucky we'll get a glimpse of Dreams. I don't expect to see much of the game before PGW.

Still gonna be cool but let's temper expectations a bit.

They put Jak, Sly, Ratchet and God of War on Vita, it could happen. You could do a Sly collection including 4 when the movie comes out. Cheaper than making a new one.

Put ICO and Shadow of the Colossus out before The Last Guardian too?

Is it happening ?

The Missing Link ? The Phantom Knack.
I'm sure Sony wants to, but are they willing to be ok allowing him on a 80m budget? Uncharted 2 cost 20m to make, and U3 was something similar I believe. Their studios are generally pretty good at making games on budget. Based on rumors, Kojima is the complete opposite. -_-

I'd love a good remaster of Ico and SotC (latter being my favourite game of all time) if they did a good job of it and put it at 60 fps without fucking up the ambience. Just a straight port of the ps3 HD would be a bit lazy imo

What if he's willing to accept a lower budget just to continue working in Japan with his existing colleagues?

Honestly, if he accepts an offer from Sony, I expect that to be his primary motivation, largely because Japan Studio and KojiPro is like 30 minutes apart from each other.

Your right it's on those two days, I just checked again. If that's the case I'll only be able to play Saturday really because of work. I totally wasn't expecting it either so this should be a pretty fun evening to spend on the game!

Always a possibility. I suspect if such a deal were to happen, that Sony would just fund his entire team rather than get Studio Japan on his team. They seem to be doing their own thing at the moment if Verendus is to be believed. My guess is that he gets published by a 3rd party, but we'll see what happens.

One thing I wish about Kojima is that he was faster in making games consoles. Imagine if he could make games every 2.5 years. :')

That's a good point about vita, though PS4 is in a different situation with Sony willing to make new games for it and people probably expect a lot of work on its games (like in Mr Hoots comment), or they'll just get called a 'cash grab' or something.

Edit:
Naughty Dog tweeting about a Crash gift they got from a fan

Honestly more than Kojima, I've missed Cerny.

He's such a cool guy but very much behind the scenes, it was great to see him around during the PS4's launch.
