Because it's bullshit.

I don't want to be me. I want to be mother fucking Big Boss.

You're not you, you're Snake. You have been the moment you placed the first copy of a Metal Gear game you bought and pressed start. This is what people seem to misunderstand: you're not only Snake for MGSV. You've always been Snake/you've always been training to be Snake and the story just finally acknowledges that in a meta-physical way.

You're Snake, at the same time you've always aspired to be Snake. The Medic is a soldier, the best soldier, in MSF. Somebody who looks up to Snake, just like you do. And you've been chosen to step in because the Boss thinks you're capable of it. He considers you so much, you'll get to be a part of his grand scheme - to share his greatest secret and his life, his legend, his legacy.

Hate it if you want it, but at least understand you've always been Snake. The twist in MGSV has been invisibly happening for over 27 years now. This game simply brought it to light, you've always left your identity behind and become Snake whenever you booted up Metal Gear.

[/B] I don't understand why people don't get this. It's pretty simple.

Because using the brain is hard, it seems. People have irrational hate for things, and they won't let anyone tell them otherwise. When people dislike his performance in Peace Walker, and they already hate the man for whatever reason, they will come up with all sort of excuses to continue hating.

Hayter was great in the previous games. Then he delivers a waaaay over-the-top performance in one game (MGS4 was fine, considering the age of the character and his accelerated aging) and they want his head on a plate.

It's been explained and proven time and time again that Hayter CAN provide a more serious and natural acting when directed well. But I still don't understand why a handful of people wanted a "natural and human" performance from the Metal Gear series which kept getting crazier, dumber and sillier with each game.

It's like complaining about the fucking Cobra Commander sounding like he sounds, instead of being voiced by Patrick Stewart. Just what kind of video game series do these people think they are playing?

Hayter doing both Big Boss voice and young Solid for the cancelled Fanmade Metal Gear game
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BLGSxQifJW0

That "Kept you waiting huh" at the end was fantastic, and the perfect counter-argument to the people who say he can't do that voice anymore.

Fuck that nonsense. His voice got cartoony in MGS:pW because that's what was requested from him.I don't understand why people don't get this. It's pretty simple.

I dont understand the big deal with cartoony voices in a game with huge fucking robots, nanomachines, nuclear equipped tanks, alligator caps, etc.

Or maybe I dont care because English is not my native tongue. words and deeds motherfuckers, words and deeds.

This is something I agree with. Peacewalker is the turn from hero to villain which makes me completely fine with Hayter's voice. He sounds evil to me, a change from the naive Naked Snake of Snake Eater.

Pretty much. Kiefer is the outlier when the script is still hammy as shit, with over the top voice acting from the other actors (Skull Face, Huey, Miller, etc).

But look how dark and serious MGSV is!! Check out the drastic shift in tone. Hayter would not fit here!

In seriousness (lol) those scenes would be worse if they had this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNbTLa3mPxk

You know? I kind of doubt that. MGS2 played straight into the pervyness. It was Kojima saying: "Yeah, I'm a filthy dude and you are too because you know you will do this over and over".

MGSV tries to make lame excuses for Quiet's nakedness as if it was something dark and serious.

Metal Gear's pervyness works better when the game itself just acknowledges it is doing it for the sake of being dirty.

how long will it be before people accept mgsv sucks
Year or two tops. Let a few anticipated releases drop and maybe people will recognize how infuriatingly shitty this game's structure is. I haven't played PW, but I thought it would be impossible to make a game that was worse than 4. How? I wondered. There's no way.

Little did I know what utter shite could be released by the mythos' own creator- then again, I wasn't aware of the cowritten credits on the god tier 1 and 3. 4 and 'V' do not warrant existence, but 2 gave us Rising so there's that.

Actually I'm just going to replay Rising now and have fun.

The main reason I didn't mind them switching Hayter was because he shouldn't have been BB's voice to begin with, never could see BB as his own character because of that previously.

Liquid and Solidus both had their own voices and ways of speaking and to me that was a huge part of their character. The same should have been done with BB from day 1.

I thought about it at first, too. But then again, who could deliver such a magnificent performance on these scenes?

I like this but I can't agree that it's just there in the game. Zero chose us. And only because we were conviently on the chopper and took a piece of shrapnel to the head making us susceptible to brain washing(Does Kojima think we'd have to have brain damage to be big fans? ;) ) Big Boss says "He always was our best man" but really he's just going along with someone else's plan. It'd be nice if Big Boss talked a little bit about what the fuck he planned to do or his motivations and something more regarding the Venom twist.

I've come around on the twist and I appreciate it a little more after my initial reaction of "This is bullshit fuck Big Medic". But it's not elegantly woven into the narrative the way good meta-fiction/4th wall breaking stuff needs to imo. In fact it seems like the game, the timeline and Kojima's comments all conflict with each other. Big Boss getting a new face and ID doesn't match up with the idea that he goes onto run FOXHOUND as Big Boss. So he just changes his face back? He does he build a nation without his rep as Big Boss to help him out? Kojima says part of the twist is freeing Snake from his destiny but the timeline goes onto say that everything played out exactly the same except the first time Snake kills Big Boss he kills Venom.

It's weird. I like the gesture from Kojima to us of including us in the legend. But as a fan of good storytelling and the greater MGS universe/story I think it kinda stinks.

so are folks mostly free roaming with Snake or switching to higher rank DDogs?

I've been using an S Rank soldier with Tough Guy and he's an absolute tank... I haven't got a S++ Combat yet with one of the better abilities like Tough Guy or Athlete (Gunman but I play with Reflex off)

Guys, nothing has changed. Hayter's Snake voice is still awful.

You can't blame the voice director for Hayter's awful vocal choices, then blame Kiefer's performance on himself when he had the same voice director.

Hayter just forgot that Snake's voice was only ever his own voice lowered a few octaves. He's been slowly creating the 'Snake voice', hamming it up with each subsequent performance, until we've gotten the gargling mess of a performance he got paid to do in Peace Walker. He would have brought the same awfulness to The Phantom Pain.

Well it doesn't sucks, I don't know why people are hating on it, the gameplay was so fuck!ng great, the scenario was good, very MGS2esque, I understand people wanted to play Big Boss and see his downfall, but it already happened in Peace Walker, Venom Snake make sense, I like it.

the only problems the game has are the deleted mission and the montage of the game overall, Skull Face died too quickly and the quarantine mission should have been before meeting Code talker, everything else was incredible.

The journey was phenomenal, it's like hating on Breaking Bad or Dexter because the end sucks lol...

P.S= Huey performance is the worst performance I've never heard in a video game, it's just terrible and his worst performance over the series, just terrible.

No. Hayter's voice is great. The videos we've posted prove it.

I can agree with this, hell the game has a bunch of loli / bikini posters as is.

I'll agree that people need to stop putting down Kiefer in order to praise Hayter, but come on, Hayter IS Snake/BB to most of us. Yeah, nobody is gonna deny that his PW voice was kinda bad, but people need to stop bringing that one example up as the reason for saying he was terrible and should have been replaced. All that matters is that he CAN do a good Snake voice, that much has already been proven. Someone just needed to sit him down and make him perform with it.

Venom Snake make sense, I like it.

It makes no sense at all unless you take the whole "We're all Big Boss" deal and roll with it. Or "it makes sense because the world is gunning for BB", well Peace Walker also established BB gives zero fucks about being hunted.

I am to understand I am Big Boss a.k.a. The guy that runs away to hide in a box instead of Big Boss soldier extraordinarie?

That's a codec joke you have to trigger yourself - an acknowledgment that the player is currently goofing off. A tonal shift that happens because you allow it.
It's also an easter egg most players would probably never encounter, while MGSV literally shoves Quiet's tits and ass in your face and there's nothing you can do about it if you made the mistake of taking her on a mission.

I love this game.

Quiet's... erm... thong bikini (?) looks like it's made of a canvas tarp or something. And every time I see it, it looks like it's going deeper up her bum-bum.

I would imagine it makes for intense chafing and atomic wedgies.

Also, how great would it be if she farted when she did that. PC mod, plz.

The idea is that Big Boss is thinking bigger, he wants to build a nation.

"The real Big Boss is working separately from us, to create his new nation."
"New Nation?"
"A military nation above and apart from all - the true Outer Heaven. Something created to maintain world balance. Independent of the struggles for supremacy, personal profit, the cycles of revenge between countries. It'll be an army alright, but more. Big Boss is building a nation.

Big boss is like Batman, everyone can be Batman, he's just a legend, a legend created by Zero, many things Big Boss is know for are lies, everyone can be big Boss, I don't know where is the problem, it's like raiden in MGS2, everyone think they were playing Solid Snake until he showed his face, everyone can play "Snake" because it's just a code name, but not everyone is Solid Snake or "Jack/John/Big Boss"

the real problem is fan themselves that created their own game before MGSV even come out with stupid things like chico=Quiet, BB is Gray fox etc...

That seemed unlikely with MGSV since he still would have voiced "Big Boss" with the same voice director.

If Hayter and/or the voice director kept on the same path as Peace Walker I would've been glad that BB was a dumb mute for the game.

those were dumb theories that no rational person ever took seriously.

what people "created" was the game as presented in the trailers and from Kojima's own mouth. A dark game about a descent into madness, taking ques from Breaking Bad, taking on taboos that could force Kojima to leae the industry. That's what the game was presented as, it wasn't some shit made up out of thin air like Chico/Quiet nonsense.

Actually I remember the opposite, people speculating about the medic in GZ, they never show his face and his voice is pitch altered Kiefer! It has to mean something, you don't play as Big Boss!

And everyone dismissed those theories because they seemed to ridiculous to be true (ie Quiet = Chico) but then it happened. The ruse cruise is only fun when you don't know the ruse, otherwise people tend to prefer the ruseless cruise
