Famitsu "leaks" Laura for Street Fighter V

... She could be less white.
I mean, Brazil has a lot of birracial going on. They didn't even need a new character model, just... Less white.

Why do people keep saying Viper is Latina? Was that ever confirmed or are we just assuming so? I always got a tanned Italian vibe from her, and I know at first she was mean to be Southeast Asian until they started looking at Angelina Jolie as a reference.
Probably because she has a sexy Latina face and she's tan, and since SF is pretty heavy on stereotypes, they probably would have made her look more like Rose, which does look very Italian, because she is.

Have you actually seen a brazillian? We have a lot of people with skin this light that aren't caucasian.

She doesn't need anything.

I am a white brazillian, I'm not saying she is offensive or anything like that, I'm just saying it was an opportunity to have a character with a more mixed heritage. If people think she already look like that, then it's ok. I don't think so, but maybe it's because I live here and my concept of race is slightly different.

A little surprised that I went to bed last night when this was around page 3-5 and people were more interested in talking about what her fighting style was, the stage, the where and how the electricity came into play, whether or not she had a projectile and who this de confirms and confirms. And I come back this morning and people are more interested in complaining about representation, reality of her body physics and how she clothed. When none of that really happened in the Zangief thread... I feel like this thread has gone so far off the rails it's not even funny.

SFV has the most controversial character roster of ALL TIME

Laura looks cool! The Blanka connections are there, I wonder if she'll kind of play like Juri though (projectiles, dance fighting with emphasis on leg moves)

Hopefully Juri makes it in sooner than later

I kinda hope she is as cray as Juri too.

ITT I learn that some people on this video game forum don't know stuff about a country and assume every character that isn't straight up black to be caucasian unless explicitly stated to be otherwise.

About her fighting style: while it's pretty obvious that she is a BJJ fighter, this move really looks like it's from capoeira.

Maybe she fights MMA, remembers that Anderson Silva fights: Muay Thai, Boxing, Taekwondo, Aikido, Wushu (Kung Fu), Wing Chun, Judô, Capoeira and BJJ.

Marcus Aurelio "Lelo" fights Capoeira, BJJ and Boxing.

Just going off her 1 quote and her images I think she is more about having fun with the fight and less about being crazy. Kind of like a more violent Elena.

S.S. Crazy lady fighter ship is currently being captain'd and occupied by Juri and Juri alone.

I want her back for my own reasons as well :D

She looks like my sister, who is a white brazillian. I live in Brazil, I worked at the census a few years back (and, you know, again, I live here). She looks caucasian to me, sorry if that offends anybody.

Give me numbers then!
and what about it? Do you actually think the black population grew 9 millions in 60 years? xd

They're still more mulattos than Afro-dominicans. We gotta stop watching biased documentaries on how Dominicans don't call themselves blacks.
Says the person who quotes Dr. Frank Moya Pons's Historia de la República Dominicana. In which he gets his 10% number from (and freakin cites) Santo Domingo Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas of 1963. :3

And it's not that the population suddenly "grew". They were always there, it's more that as time is going on, more and more people are identifying as such because social mobility while it still sucks is still seeing more and more people who identify as such make something of their lives despite the general racism in DR. Pretty much any DR scholar will tell you racism against blacks was (and still is) bad. You can basically blame it all on Haitian occupation of 1822 and Trujillo. Because of those two events "black" basically become synonymous with "Haitian". No one wants to be confused or identified as such. As Blas Jimenez once said; "Under Trujillo, there was nothing worse than being black, many screamed "I'm mulatto, I'm mulatto!" Being mulatto was what many of us said because we had to. We did it to live."

Also because you asked

The number will only increase, it's a snowball effect. They see people who have gone through the same hardships as themselves (African Americans) being proud of what they are and striving forward despite setbacks and roadblocks and they figure...why not us too?

That's the bright side really of being an interconnected world.

Your opinion shouldn't offend any one, especially if you are from the said location and just making a observation, I agree with you as well, she looks Caucasian but she is from Brazil, if she is from Brazil and fights for Brazil, huzzah, Brazilian.

Everyone looks different even if their from a certain area, just how it is.

Don't know much about actual IRL Capoeira, but pretty sure both Eddie and Christi from Tekken, who uses Capoeira, have this exact move:

I can't believe Famitsu leaked it, fuck them. Ono trolling Blanka and GAF going crazy over it would've been perfect.

Like on one hand, I would have enjoyed seeing the pre-emptive rage.

but then again I'd be apart of it.

Blanka gets my sodium levels extra high for very poor reasons. Taking the place of a newcomer would only add to it lol.

lol

You living there doesn't really change the argument. Just because someone has lighter skin than someone else doesn't make them more Caucasian. It's just skin tone, not blood.

I think only the uninformed or delusional would think that it wasn't the newcomer from Brazil in the confirmed leak. That Ono Blanka video basically confirmed it wouldn't be him.

However, I have to admit seeing him post shots of electricity probably would have made me clench up a little.

I'm sure Juri will be in through DLC, she seems far too popular to be left out, but still, it's kinda sad not to see her in the initial roster already. She really feels like a classic SF character already. More than any other newcomer from SF IV.

I actually do think of Juri and Dudley before I think of many SF II characters when it comes to "the face of Street Fighter". I don't even play her at all, never did, never will, it just feels weird without her, you know?

It's all good :D . I want to experience the heartbreak and whatever lewd stuff I still have to see. But damn, that sucks...Fuck. She was a good one.

*Cartman voice* There you go :) It's okay

I don't deserve your kindness.

And the game better announce her as Lah-uh-rah and not lohra or whatever you weird americans call it.

I think it all depends on the way they write it in japanese, actually. If they call her Rora, then it's Lohra, but they could also easily call her Raura, which would sound pretty close to our way of saying it.

This thread, man.

Travel, brehs.

Brazil is quite cheap and lovely.

I don't know about cheap. The first person in my family on both sides to even leave the US was my brother and him making that electrical engineer money I'm pretty sure has to do with it.

I'm going to make sure I make a lot of money so I can leave this place myself. I don't want to be another family member who just remained in the bubble of the dirty south for their whole lives.

If you worked in the census then you know a lot of black people says they are pardo/moreno (dun/tan) and o lot of pardo say they are white.

She is a cartoon, she doesn't have blood, she has a color palette.
Serious post?

I was obviously talking about light skinned Brazilians in, you know, real life. They do exist and you've seen lots of them, I'm sure. Why are they less Brazilian than dark skinned Brazilians, even if they're obviously 100% Brazilian?

Doesn't really make sense. A light skinned Dominican is still 100% Dominican. Not all of them are dark either. Doesn't make them "more Caucasian."

There is so much misinformation about Dominican/Haitian "hate" that I don't even know where to start. But again, this is not a thread about those topic.

They grow in "blacks" it's mostly because of the immigrants Haitians in Dominican republic (Haitian-Dominicans), not because of Afro-Dominicans(Which again, I'm referring to Afro-Dominicans in percentage, not Haitian-Dominicans in my previous post. But you can also count Haitians as Afro-immigrants, so take that as you want lol).

The thing is, no Dominicans who are blacks denies their blackness, at least for the time I was living there (18 years). Yes, this happened when Trujillo and all that, but that's gone. Tons of Dominicans are very proud of being "prietico"
