Ancient Aliens: New Nin. 3DS now offers the best SNES emulation on any handheld

When downloading the latest nightlies, should I delete the old ones and replace them, or just add them into the 3ds folder? I deleted everything and now I've been having trouble. I just get into debug mode and that's all I get.

That was uneventfully easy. I was hoping it would put up a fight.

Thank you for sharing! Just breathed new life into my dormant 3DS!

Loving being able to turn off the bottom screen, I never even realized how distracting it was until now!

GBA emulation hasn't been perfect with the latest stuff but it was definitely better than before. I probably won't delve too deep into GBA games until it's as good as SNES emulation.

I'm on a n3DSXL (Majora' Mask edition, if that matter) and I'm getting some bad slowdown in both DKC2 and 3. Dropping to 40fps or lower. Is there a setting I should mess with to get it running properly? Super Castlevania IV ran great.

What levels? I had pretty consistent FPS throughout except in water levels, where it dipped to those levels. I haven't tried playing using the current nightlies, but last I checked that's when those issues were most prevalent for me.

Literally on the world map from the get go. Even the intro sequence was laggy.

Can't wait until Retroarch improves even more. blargSnes runs fullspeed on my OG3DS, but Retroarch only gets 20-30fps for most games.

However blargSnes has a lot of compatibility issues. DKC1, 2, Killer Instinct, Yoshis Island, Kirby SS won't run for example.

Are you using the CatSFC core? All 3 of my DKCs run 60fps in it

I'm having some difficulties getting this running on my n3DS.

I went to Smea's website and downloaded the homebrew launcher.

Copied that over to my SD card.

Turned on n3DS, changed DNS settings.

Launched YouTube, was told my firmware was USA new 10.1.0.

Selected that one on the list.

YouTube shutdown and now I keep getting the message "An error has occurred, forcing the software to close."

Not sure what I did wrong here, Gaf. =(

i've played DKC 1 and 2 on my O3DS with blargsnes

Okay, nevermind got this running correctly now!

How do you get old 3DS games to run better in New 3DS mode, such as Snake Eater?

That would be with the cpuclock plugin that is enabled with NTR....

Which means you must have an older version of the n3ds firmware to boost the cores from 268MHz to 804 MHz for normal 3ds games.

So wait, I must have done something wrong with the homebrew here.

Everytime I restarted the YouTube app, I get the error message and the system shuts down.

The only solution is to redownload the YouTube app everytime I want to run homebrew. That can't be right.

Forget the youtube app, you should only use it once.

If you downloaded the package today, one of the first things you should see is a theme hax installer in your homebrew launcher, make sure you have no theme up, and run that.

Once it is installed, anytime you want to run the homebrew launcher just go to the power down menu (Push the power button, but dont hod it), then press home to exit it, and then hold the L trigger.

Alternatively, you can hold the l trigger when turning on your 3ds to go straight to the homebrew launcher.

Wow!
I hope they can get VIII working.
The PS1 discs don't work on a PS3 meaning I haven't played it in years.

What? PS3 most definitely runs PS1 discs man...

Also is there any way I can still play online or will the internet not work due to it being a certain way for the youtube channel to run?

I got 40 ish fps on the lava levels in DKC2, other than that it ran at a consistent 59.88498419651 fps.

Are you sure you are running it on standard catsfc on the newest nightly (01st October build) with audio sync off?

Because I just tested it and the lava levels are a locked 59.8fps.

I delete all the old /3ds/libretro folders and copy over the new ones.

you can also try deleting /retroarch preferences folder

Just got my New 3DS XL and setting up the Homebrew Launcher is really straightforward aka update my firmware to the latest version since I need to download the Youtube app and copy the starter kit to the microSD card root directory.

Change the DNS, run Youtube app and profit.

So far, so good. This works fantastic and even my brother bought a new 3DS today because of this.

The only thing I am still struggling with is the GB Advanced emulation. As I still only own a GB Advanced with the standard screen I was really looking forward to replay some games on a better screen.
But the GBA emulation just doesn't work that good.
mGBA runs relatively slow and gpSP crashes everytime I try to load a game.

gpsp is my goto for gba, weird.

BIOS in the right place? Gpsp is running pretty much every game I throw at it at 60fps. Just finished Minish Cap on it without a single hitch.

This might be off topic, but with the strides that emulation on the 3DS has had, is it known exactly what changes Nintendo made to the hardware? Is it more cores or did they bump up the mhz?

Ah. Is this being worked on? Any ETA?

Well, the support is already there, its just a matter of power and optimisation - bear in mind that with these particular games (smrpg, Kirby, Yoshi, starfox), the emulator has to emulate not just the processor in the console but also the coprocessor in the cartridge too.

Hmm most probably not. Where is the right place?
(And sorry for being dumb here. First time using an emulator)

EDIT: I think I've found the setting to tell gpSP where I placed the bios.

Edit2: ...it seems to work flawlessly now. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Dumb question, but do you have to remove the microSD card from the N3DS everytime you want to upgrade to the latest retroarch nightlies?

You can update and go through the micro sd on Windows computers by connecting through wifi. just go to data management on the n3ds

Did I fucked up?

Powering up N3DS and stays on black screen after fw update.

Physically remove your microSD card and see if it boots up fine (it should). If it does, re-insert the card while it's on, change themes (this will remove themehax), delete the Youtube app, redownload it from the eShop, and start again.

So I have the latest nightlies and GBA still continues to work a bit sloppy. It works, but frequently goes down to like 50, 40, sometimes 30 fps.

Anyone have problems getting PS1 backups working?

I tried Castlevania SotN and got this error - RetroArch: Does not have enough samples for monitor refresh rate estimation. Requires to run for at least 4096 frames.

EDIT: After some tinkering I figured it out. Unfortunately the game isn't really playable. Very low fps. :(

It seem everytime I close my n3DS when homebrew is running, the screen remains black when I reopen it.

Is there a way for the screen to turn back on?

Anybody have suggestion on best settings for GBC games? I can't quite get the aspect ratio/pixel count right.

I'm getting really frustrated. This started great for me, but now no games will save, and most games don't load saved games. The files are where they should be. When I start it up the bottom screen says "Retroarch [INFO] :: SRAM will not be saved" and when I start a game it says "Retroarch [INFO] :: skipping SRAM load" I can't find anything that'd indicate that I've turned off SRAM loading. For some reason all of my folders are getting flagged as Read Only, and even when I turn it off, it gets set again (or it tells me that the password is invalid when I turn it off). I'm not even able to change the directory where savefiles go without that being switched back to the default.

I've deleted everything related to homebrew off my card and restarted but I'm having no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I re-re-reinstalled everything and copied my sram files to both the roms directory and the retroarch/cores/savefiles directory and now they load...but they only save if I back into the menu and hit Quit Retroarch. I didn't have to do that before. Retroarch settings like hot key bindings still don't save. God this is irritating; it all started when I installed the 10/1 nightly.
