Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Is there any point to explore the environments when you're on a mission? like going in a different direction, any chance to find cool stuff?

It would be funny if there was a secret in the Archive daily that everybody missed. Like run toward the nexus strike instead of the Archive and then complete some hard challenge.

Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm ~230 light. What should I be doing in order to get to the heroic vanguard strikes? Thanks!

Pretty much anything - the light level of the gear that drops always has a good chance of being higher than what you currently have equipped. Do quests, level 36 strikes, patrols, whatever.

If you're trying to increase your light - patrol the Dreadnaught and go to the Court of Oryx - put those runes to good use.

Since you're 230 I would suggest using primarily Reciprocal Runes (light level 190)
Stolen Runes are 240 - they have pretty good drops, but it would be advantageous to pop in one of these if there are 3 or more people helping out (shouldn't be a problem - there's usually people there farming for light).

Also if you don't already have any - you should grab Three of Coin from Xur - and use these in conjunction with the C.o.Oryx.

Grinding through this should definitely lift your light level for the H.V.Strikes

hope this helps.

Anyone here interested in starting the King's Fall Raid soon? We're looking for two more players. First time trying here.

PSN: rcmDez

After about a week of disappointing drops (around 260-280 when I'm 285) I finally lucked out and got a few 295 items from engrams. Now I'm 288. Am I ready for the raid? It says the suggested level is 280 but it seems like most people ask for other players to be 290 when looking for a group.

Picked up the Legendary Edition today at Best Buy. Last time I played this was a year ago and I only got to the moon.
What have I gotten myself into?

This should help me. My main is now Level 40 with about light level 240. Also, how easy will vault of glass and crotas end be for me? Normal and hard? It's going to suck having to do this two more times to get my other two characters up as well. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like prestiging in CoD, once I'm a high level, I like to play as a high level.

Also, another dumb question, I've gotten a lot of the crucible vanguard legendary stuff, but unlike the stuff you can buy from Shaxx, it's only like 241, 249 etc. How would I get it to the 280+ level? Infuse? Or can I dismantle?

Thanks! What do you mean by C.oOryx?

I also need to research runes apparently!

To be honest I can't say, I've only recently played VoG, and Crota's End for the first time since TTK, and at the time my light level was around 284 - they were still challenging, for me.

Essentially, as long as you have a squad that communicates well, I think you should be good to go for VoG ( year 1 - level 30), and C.End (year 1 - level 26) at level 240.

Exactly, infusing. There are a couple of ways I approach it:

Usually how it works is, you have a legendary around 250+, and somewhere down the line (usually) you'll get a Rare drop (around 270) - assuming it's compatible - it get's infused into the legendary - this is pretty much the most straightforward way.

Keep in mind that infusing is not only dependant upon the weapon getting dismantled, but also upon the initial attack level of the weapon being infused; Infusing 280 into a 240 would yield approximately a 262-270(+/-). In other words, if the attack level of the weapon you want to infuse is within the same range of the weapon being dismantled, you almost get an even trade in attack power.

The Exotic (faster - yet more expensive) route. Saving up Legendary marks to pull out an exotic engram; example:

Acquiring an exotic with 280 attack, waiting for a rare/legendary drop of 290+ and infusing it into the exotic (requires an exotic shard) - then you could (painfully) take that exotic and infuse it into your legendary - which should easily spike the attack beyond 270.

Good luck!

Court of Oryx - one of the most reliable ways to quickly farm light.

The learning curve on runes is minimal.

Except for Reciprocal, Stolen and Antiquated must be charged by killing taken Lieutenants that appear either from those glowing orbs (only on the Dreadnaught), or from the Court of Oryx - oh yeah - Antiquated runes can only be charged once a day, and there are 7 charges (thank Bungie), but technically you could get three per day -

just charge it; for example with your main, then throw in the vault for your other characters to charge - oula!

The three altars in the hallway leading to the Court - starting furthest from the Court (from left to right, decreasing in difficulty):

Antiquated - (300 light)
Stolen - (240 light)
Reciprocal - (190 light)

people quitting heroic strikes if it's one they don't like right after the mission starts are a scourge. It's why I stick to normal strikes now.

I feel a bit out of things to do now. I'm 294 and I don't have a crew to raid with. Waiting for the right enemies to spawn during patrols is maddening, especially if no one happens to instance in with me. Also, the random VIP missions really suck. I wish there was a level-adjusted patrol. Zooming around low level zones (all of them) is kind of boring.

Looking for 1 person for Kings Fall starting from beginning.

4 first timers (two who watched a video or two) and 1 guy who has done it before.

Low expectations fun run.

Probably wont get super far into it.

PSN same as GAF.

Myself and 3 other friends just did Vault of Glass for the first time! That was SO MUCH FUN!

Yup, did this myself earlier today and ha d a ton of fun playing through it. Very challenging even though most of us were over leveled for the rain, but it sure was fun to experience. Would definitely like to do it again.

This expansion makes me wish I never bought vanilla Destiny. I never did the first two expansions and now if I want this one my cheapest option is to re-purchase the entire game including the part I already paid for... :(

Guess I have to wait for a sale or something to feel justified.

Got stupid lucky on my first raid run without even starting oryx. 310 rocket launcher after the first boss, 306 chest after the second.

So guys I need tips, I started again after abandoning the game before any expansion came (so before the exp 1 and 2 and taken king), now of course I'm bit confused on how to move, what exp to buy first, there to go next.

I have the base game and I'm level 25: what should I do next?

Make your way to 40. If you want to hit all the story content you missed, pull up your quests screen and select 'The Dark Below'. Follow all the green waypoints as you see them on the map screen and missions as they come up. Then do the same for 'House of Wolves'.

Or start The Taken King directly (its difficulty starts at level 25) by watching the cinematic on the bottom-ish right of the map screen, then following the Taken icons from there. None of the quest lines have to be done in order.

Very nice! I've also been lucky getting my Warlock up to 297. Waiting for the reset to do my next raid run.

Btw, anyone using the raid weapons?

Speaking of the Zhalos though, is it really that good? I see a lot of potential in the arc jumping, but my friends say its damage isn't great. I still really want one just for its apparent strengths in crowd control.

TTK is $40, you never paid for the original expansions which you can get for 20$ on top of that $40..making it $60. I see no reason why you should not buy it just because it includes a copy of vanilla Destiny too.

It's extremely good for mob management. It's become my prefered PvE & raid weapon. The damage is decent enough in PvP as well.

How is the hereafter? I just got it from my first 3oc use.

I hate it. Terrible use of an exotic slot imo. Especially when you consider how great 1000 Yard Stare is or how easy it is to get Black Spindle.

Crowd control gun. I have numerous legendaries that are far better though for everything else.

Yeah it's great for mobs. You don't want to use it on majors or ultras in most cases though. Still a really fun gun.
