Microsoft hardware event set for October 6th

Wow. Microsoft smashed it out of the park. I was about to retire my Surface Pro for 4 but then they dropped the bomb with the Surface Book.
 
I absolutely LOVE the fact none of this stuff leaked. 99% of these conferences are ruined by us knowing pretty much everything before it even begins.

I hear some people saying that this could kill the 3rd party hardware guys (acer, asus, lenovo, etc) that use Windows. That seems very presumptuous. There will always be people that only have $500 to spend on a laptop.
 
Booo @ no mention of an LTE option for the Pro 4.

And the Surface Book kind of defeats the whole purpose of the Surface line, doesn't it? XD I guess they couldn't just make the Surface Book the Pro 4, but the former seems to completely undermine the latter.

[EDIT] - And add me to the list of folks that wish these guys were running things during the Xbox One's development. Look forward to what they offer us in 2 or 3 years.
 
That was an amazing keynote.
Surface Pro 4 looks really, really good. Might think about a future Surface Pro to replace my current Macbook Air down the line.
I'm not interested at all in the Surface Book, and at this moment I don't think it's that great, but the reveal was cool.
I'm mildly disappointed in the Band 2 because of no waterproof and increase in price. It also had too little screen time, but I'm really looking forward to the previews.

Microsoft are doing a hell of a job lately, pushing it much harder than I think Apple is doing.
Apple I think have stagnated a little bit. I hope the increased competition make them make bold moves in the near future.

Smaller form factor? SP4 is like an A4 page, easy to put into any backpack.

OK GAF, what do I buy - SP3 i5 or the cheapest SP4? (not going to do any computationally demanding tasks)

No, because if you don't need anything more than an iGPU (grandma who only uses facebook and office, etc.) then it's a good $500 less.

Think of it this way:

Phone (with dock) < SP4 (with dock) < SB

From lower end specs to higher end specs.

That too. Think sheet of paper vs clipboard, size wise.

I'd say get the SP4, still. The new pen and keyboard work on SP3, but c'mon. SP4.

It won't be nearly as functional as a tablet. The SP4 has a kickstand built in and I assume the Type Cover does not work with the Surace Book. Also lighter and thinner, assuming at least since the SP4 is smaller.

If computing power is not something you really need, the SP3 + Type Cover 4 should give you exactly what you need for the best price. If you're looking to use the pen, I'd first see if the SP4 pen is compatible and if not, how important it is to you to have one.

Well, you need a certain level of mainstream interest for that, perhaps this will break that for the next one.

Perhaps Microsoft will have a trade in promotion? I don't know if I want the Surface Book... I'll have to get it early next year.
 
I feel like Microsoft should just relegate the Lumia brand to the mid and low-end market and start pumping Jesus-like Surface Phones once past the current 830 range.

Yup. This could be the perfect all in one solution for painting, game development, and gaming for me.
 
When will the price sheets come out, want to know how much I'll be shelling out for the top line Book.

Yea silly to compare them, even MS said as much. This is a MacBook Pro competitor that just happens to do a lot more than a traditional powerful laptop. If I'm being honest though, if I had something like the Surface Pro, I likely would stop using my iPad entirely.

Eehhh... I get you, but the Pro 4 and Book seem to cover so many of the same use cases.

Maybe my perspective will change once I get a better grasp of the difference in the hardware's performance, what that GPU is really capable of doing.
 
I need the Surface Book specs as soon as possible.

If it's something I can play FF XIV on when I want to play that, and then can use it as a tablet when I'm at work, I'm fucking sold on it so hard.

My current laptop is ancient so I'm in the market. Really wish they were more specific.
 
Interesting... The Surface Book is 2x faster than the MacBook Pro. That's like saying my 2015 Mustang GT has more HP than your 2013 Mustang GT. MacBook lineup hasn't been updated in ages aside from the new gold MacBook. Let's see what the next gen MBP with Skylake offers early 2016. I love my 2015 MBP, but I ain't loyal to none of these companies competition is great. It's going to be interesting to see if I stay with Mac next year or will MS do enough to to win me back. Also Surface Pro 4 destroys the iPad Pro in my opinion , better luck next year Apple. I've always been intrigued in the Surface lineup, but right now it's too hefty price tag to me for a tablet.

What apps are y'all jonesing for?
I had an android phone until 2012, but haven't really felt like I was missing out on apps in the WP environment.
