Haha, I just megatonned so hard.

I was completely OK with the price already. But now it's like the no brainerest of all time.

Shit I missed something, had to leave the office. What's the megatonne? Why is everyone saying the price is cool now? SO MUCH ABSORBING TO CATCH UP ON

Yup. Up from €849. And that's still without the type cover.

It remains to be seen if the Core m3 is even that much of an upgrade over the i3 in the SP3.
It's so expensive for something so... weak?

Will they drop the SP3 prices down? Because the base model here costs 879€ and that's freaking expensive for something with 64GB, 4GB of Ram and an i3 (without the type cover).

Well, more or less expected. I mean that kind of hardware isn't cheap.
Yeah and it sucks.

EDIT: Ok the SP4 base model will cost 1029€ here in Portugal. :/

I think that's when we all thought it was $1499 for what he was demoing on stage with the dgpu, which is not the case.

I think everyone hoping for 970M/980M performance are going to be disappointed.

I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect it'll be closer to 950M performance - 960M at best. Did they even say how much GDDR5 RAM it has.

Yeah and it sucks.

Some retailers here had the SP3 i3 on sale for 749 and I kind of regret that I didn't grab one. Even if the i3 was very limited compared to the i5 version.

I'd still wait for reviews and benchmarks, but so far it looks like a SP3 i5 on sale is a better buy than a SP4 m3 for what's probably the same price.

On second thought, I think i'm going to keep my SP3 and just buy the new type cover. The SP4 seems nice, but I would just be getting a slight power boost, and thinner.

Since my SP3 is barely a year old, seems silly for me to upgrade. I have the i5/256gb/8gb version. I am very sad that the back of my SP3 has scratches though :(

Whoa at dem prices man. $1500 wasn't looking too bad, but the bump up in storage/processor/RAM is crazy. Feeling less confident in the asking price now.

People saying it looks weird close - it also allows this ergonomic slant when flipped the other way. I'll take that tradeoff.

But ugh, Microsoft, at juts saying "geforce GPU" on the specs. That could mean anything. GDDR5 with half an ROP? WHATS IN THE BOX?!

Does the audio on the book come from the keyboard section or speakers? Curious as to exactly what the tablet only portion is capable of when detached.

I'm fairly certain the new pen won't have the 1024 levels of sensitivity and other improvements with the SP3, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

If you have a SP3, I don't see any reason to get the SP4, unless you're affected by loud fan noise and/or other issues.
e: That's, if the new pen works without any downgrades on the SP3.

It's clear that the team focused on the Surface Book. The SP4 is a refresh in the same way the SP2 was over the SP1.

Ok, SB with half-way decent performance is way out of my price range (plus the keyboard is too bulky anyway) so looks like it's going to come down to an SP4 with 8GB of Ram and the 256GB SSD, but I can't decide whether to go with the i5 or i7. The i5 is closer to the price I'm looking to pay but the i7's Iris Pro GPU is very tempting. Hmm, some research may need to be done.

Blah, just realised I was on the Canadian portal. Need to wait for the Aus store to update. Hopefully things aren't too much more expensive than Canada.

My fan does go nuts when i'm using chrome, but I thought that was normal?

For someone that uses Visual Studio Enterprise and Virtual Box my minimum would be the i5 model (my current laptop has a first gen i5).

I couldn't imagine buying the i3 model.

I have the Haswell Iris Pro 5200, it's quite capable, and the Skylake one should be even more so. If that's an option, many people may not even miss the dGPU.

I need to watch this conference.

I'm branching out from my Android only preference and all manufacturers with all OS's are available to me as well

A regular Surface 3 with 4 GB RAM would probably be enough for me.

But in your case, I'd check your local price comparison portals. I'm seeing here a SP3 i5/128GB for 899 and 1099 with type cover. I hope you can get similar deals.

It might be normal with Chrome, yes.

But others reported issues with loud fans, throttling and wonky Windows 10 upgrades. I was referring more to that.

So the best surface book with an i7, 16GB RAM, dGPU and 512GB of storage is $2,699.00

Yeah.... I'm going to have to pass.
I'll get one in a couple of year when its cheaper (or if I win the lottery.)

anyone know when MS started offering education pricing on the SP3?

My MAIN gripe with the SP3 is the pen gives me wavy/crooked lines when I draw very slow. I wonder if just buying the new pen would fix that?

I was going to get that one but stepped down to the 256gb 8gb version with the i7.

Me too!!
Love my SP3, I was thinking to upgrade to SP4 with 16GB Ram but I think I will keep my SP3. Might get the new type cover and the new pen still.
The SB though is so tempting!!! But the price...maaannn

Will be interesting to see the pricing on this where I'm from as the lowest model Surface Pro 3 i5 goes for ~$1,299.00 without the type cover.

Ill probably get the surface pro 4 a year from now. Assuming my current (third) surface pro 3 doesn't have its battery die again before then. If that happens I might be done with surface products.

Oops, sorry that was Iris, not Iris pro. Should be similar in FLOPS to your Haswell Pro but only half the EDRAM. Depending on how fast the main memory access is, that may not be too much of an issue.

Definitely going to be an expensive October! Absolutely going to buy a Band 2 and a new Surface. But can't quite yet decide between a Surface Pro 4 and a Surface Book.

Having better gaming performance would be great, but I want to see benchmarks and I need to feel how heavy the device is....I'm used to carrying around a Surface Pro 3 and going back to something ~50% heavier would be tough.

If the SP4's gaming performance is significantly better than the SP3, which seems likely given other Skylake benchmarks, that may be enough. I don't necessarily need a mobile gaming powerhouse.

Phones....we'll see :-P

Need more details MS.

What GPU for the Surfacebook?
Detailed hands on for the Lumia's?
Exact release date please for the 950XL with AT&T.
Direct comparison with the Pro 3 to Pro 4.

Best part of these announcements will definitely be price pressure on used SP2s/SP3s. The 4 looks fairly incremental, the Surface Book looks insane in the best way but I can't justify spending $1500+ on a laptop.

I think it looks gorgeous when folded. Almost like a soft cover book.

Because 30% performance is a 42% increase in price.
well...how long do you expect to keep it? It's a $100 difference, right? Or is it more?

I'd just break it down by how many months I'd expect to have it and use it. If you keep it for 2 years, we're talking about an extra ~$4/month for 30% more performance. If you expect it to become a novelty collecting dust 6 months from now, don't bother.

Yep. I'm already seeing people selling their SP3 i5 w/type cover for 750-850 Euro. It's really tempting, but I still want to wait for official prices here and benchmarks.

Ah. I'm very interested to see how the 64MB eDRAM Skylake models perform.

Intel said they way over provisioned with 128MB, so it may not even be much of a difference. They said they found 32MB was enough for their workloads (which, funny enough, is what XBO settled with), then they doubled it to be sure, and doubled it again since they had extra n-1 fab capability.
