Jesus Christ, all the useful specs versions are expensive. Misleading conference.

"All this starts at $899 and $1499."
Goes to store...

"Well, not really this..."

You can flip between a desktop and tablet version of the OS.

We all used a Surface. We can't stop the act that the tablet experience on W10 is even close to iOS.

If you make a scale from tablet (with the iPad as reference) to ultrabook, the surface would be closer to the ultrabook side. That's more or less the selling point of the Pro series.

It kinda sucks that the SP4 went up in price for the baseline. I know you get more storage, but still, the cheapest entry point is $100 more. What do you guys think? I just got a SP3 for $630. It doesn't seem to make sense to return it and get the SP4 at $899 right?

Probably not for the performance alone. But it is a thinner device. Not sure that's worth a few hundred.

Given the price for a high end SurfaceBook, I guess I'll just go with a mid or high spec SP4. I have a dedicated desktop for any real power needs, would have been nice to snag a Surface Book if the price was a bit lower.

I want the Surface Book bad, but it seems the SP4 with decent specs is the way to go. Too much $$$ for the discreet GPU option

Ok. Now i need pricing for every option of Surfacebook and Surface Pro 4. Maybe come out of pocket for this one and hand back my Surface Pro 3 to work.

This! Those looked pretty impressive. My GF might be getting a hand me down SP3 from me at the end of the month :)

Definitely a little on the pricing side. Although a 256 gb pro 3 with 8 gig of ram with keyboard was $1300+ if I remember right. So around $500-600 more for a bigger screen, more power and discrete gpu.

Not that bad. Surface line is just pricey in general

Edit: yeah surface pro 4 for those specs above with keyboard would be around $1450. Anyone thinking the surface book could be 50 bucks more with all those additions was kidding themselves

What apps are y'all jonesing for?
I had an android phone until 2012, but haven't really felt like I was missing out on apps in the WP environment.
Having used a Lumia 635 for almost a year now I haven't felt like I was missing anything. I just want things to get better in the store. I'm happy about new Facebook apps coming but I want to see a bigger push to bring more devs in. An official Twitch app would be great.

The SB isn't too pricey for me; it seems comparable to the MBP but substantially more powerful. But I already game and do video editing on my desktop at home, so I think the SP4 will get me more bang for my buck.

Is there any reason that the Surface Pro 4 page says "3D modeling with Auto Cad (i7 models only)"? The integrated graphics in the mobile Intel chips is pretty standard across the board, no?

What's the "all year battery life" with the pen all about? Just means you don't have to charge it for a whole year? I'm assuming you can just charge it whenever still?

no it isn't. 16GB is mid tier. 32GB is high end.

I have 16GB of RAM in my gaming rig. I rarely use any more than 10. I wouldn't call 16GB mid tier when most budget devices ship with 4, and most mid range ship with 8.

1899 is the cheapest GPU package :/

An extra $200 jump from the non GPU 256GB / i5 package seems reasonable for something with GTX 970 / 980 performance. Let's see if it can reach that level though.

With that being said, speccing things out it seems like for similar price ranges I'd go for the Surface Book over the Surface Pro given the ease of external storage space and the features of the Book. But if you want portable, the Pro is still a good option.

Now it remains to be seen if you really need to go to 1900 for a dGPU. We'll see what the benchmarks say.

No charge, takes standard batteries but they last forever.

16gb ram is high end.
Ok ? There's Mac's and Chromebooks with 16GB Ram. No ordinary customer who makes up the majority is paying 1500+ for a Windows machine unless it's for gaming, and the Surface Boom isn't a gaming machine. It's targeting the MacBook audience. And the surface book doesn't seem to be customizable which is the selling point of a PC over a Mac.

theres a straight up normal battery in there
it can't be recharged

The surface pro 4 pen is powered by a battery? Does anybody know if said battery is replaceable or do you need to buy a new pen every time?

hmmm. I can probably get about $2k selling my MBP and SP3.

If the top of the line Surface Book was more like $2,400 w/ a 1 TB drive I would probably bite. Not sure now though...

Okay so the Lumia phones look great but i think i will stick with the Nexus P. Looks like this will be MS's last phone but it looks sweet.

I am probably going to get a surface pro 4 in the winter after tax returns.

I think that's my main issue with going all of the way with a laptop. I just don't think a laptop will ever be my main device since I'm a gamer. It's just way more practical to get a middle of the road Surface Pro 4 to get both mobile computing and a tablet for media consumption. Even a bottom of the line Surface Pro 4 is going to be 10x better than the iPad for gaming.
