Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

On my way home from work, moment of truth. Should I buy this game on the way home?

I'm a CRAZY big G1 fan but games like DMC and Bayo have never clicked with me.

May want to hold off then... That's all Platinum makes! But they're the best in the business.

Buy it. Buy it. Just buy it. I'm buying it.

Frank Welker's Megatron sounds a bit off in the launch trailer. Anybody else hearing this?

Oh come on. BW had local commercial grade cgi even when it was new. It's never, ever looked good.

Let's not even get started on the mech design.
LOL you're a G1 cartoon fan, you're not one to throw stones about shitty animation that never looked good.

Beast Wars has reeeeally aged poorly

and this is coming from someone who will still watch random G1 episodes on occasion

I think there is CG that has aged worse, like that Donkey Kong show, or heck, Transformers Energon.

I'll give Beast Wars credit for having expressive characters with good facial animation that don't move really awkwardly, even though the environments look like wank by today's standards.

I mean, compare this

Yup. But I'm willing to give the guy some slack, I mean he's like 70 years old. I suppose some voices are a bit difficult to pull off. He should have gone with the Megatron voice he used in Transformers Prime: was pretty good as well.

Ban those who don't!

And Frank did Megatron's original G1 voice 30 years ago. It shouldn't come as a surprise that it won't sound the same. Though it's good he got time to practice it again with Transformers Prime a few years ago.

I'm on the fence on getting this today too. It also doesn't help that I have BBY GCU, but I was going to wait until it was even cheaper. I know I WILL get it eventually...

Yeah he does a bit, probably just due to age. Still, so awesome to hear him.

I really hope my physical PC copy ships from Game this week (it still says release date of this Friday), otherwise I'm going to go mad.

It's probably the result of playing the character for so long with different vocal cadence for Transformers Prime.

I just bought it, I was hesitant at first because of the lack of multiplayer and co-op, will play it tonight after work.

so is this like in mgr where normal is easy and hard is normal?

Kind of yeah? I find Hard to be harder than Revengeance Hard considering the nanopaste equivalent in this game isn't that common. First boss hits you for about half your health with one hit I think? The areas/enemies are usually peppered with health pickups though. I only find myself dying to bosses mostly.

If you're familiar with character action or enjoyed Revengeance on Hard then this will be fine for you probably.

A question before I jump in later. Normal or Hard? For perspective, I did Bayo 2 on that game's version of hard and that felt like it was the appropriate difficulty for a first playthrough, but felt like W101 on hard for a first playthrough would be too much.

The movie is definitely the exception when it comes to animation.

I just wish the movie wasn't a giant middle finger to fans of the characters from the first two seasons.

I hear you but in a way I liked the movie for its darker theme even though it was to eradicate one toy line for another

Can't wait to get home and play this. Hopefully the replay value is strong enough to go through this with all 5 characters.

That's my only concern. I can't pull the trigger yet until I find out if there's replay value to the game. Never played a platinum game so I don't know what to expect.

Can someone please tell me if this game is along the same lines as a legend of korra, or more in line with a full blown platinum release.

Also I was wondering if the game has any unlockables like in W101 or Bayonetta? Things like characters, costumes, special gear, what have you.

Please elaborate.

Or did you mean beat Story mode? Because beating a game in my view, means beating everything, collecting everything etc.
Just story mode is maybe 50% of the total game.

Lol, my all time favourite game doesn't have a 'story mode'.

But then I've spent way more than the £35 I'll be paying for Transformers Devastation on games which can be beaten in an hour or less, and without regret.

I just spent 2 hours with it. Game is extremely addicting, feels like a Korra on steroids. It shares the same linear-type level design as Korra, but you get some Bayo + Rising + Vanquish(the shooting and transforming) type gameplay in it.

Game is really fun. But this is my first play through.

Two quick questions:

1. How are the boss fights (do they live up to the Platinum standard)?

2. How many different environments are there apart from the city?

Yup, i was convinced it wasn't him.

Ah, did i miss out on preorder skins?

I don't think W101 even let you pick Hard off the bat unless I'm insane? It's doing the Bayo 2 and Rising thing where Hard is the closest to a regular Platinum normal. It doesn't feel like a regular Platinum Hard where they swap enemy placements insanely or anything like that.

It's a middle ground. It doesn't seem to be bursting with original content everywhere and instead fills in some gaps with sort of random weapons. You can unlock certain weapons for beating chapters or for getting certain ranks on challenge missions. There's probably more, but I'm only past chapter 1. Also there's 5 separate characters.

Decided to take the plunge on my aging PC. Messing around in the very first area, I got 40-50 FPS with everything maxed out.

Perhaps I should have gone with the PS4 version, as I'm sure things will get more hectic later in the game. I suppose I can always turn some settings down.

For reference: Win 10, i5-2500k, 8GB, HD5850.

I'm in the same boat, but I am in. I love g1 Transformers.

Did you decide to buy it?
