Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

The game is good, really good, I'd say is easily at Rising level as of now.

- Combat might not be as deep as Bayo, probably closer to Rising. Characters are different enough to try all of them.
- Levels offers enough variety for an action based game: there's vehicle sections, using your ranged weapons to take out snipers (aiming and shooting feels decent enough), and it's used to give more deep to the battle system.
- Level design is several times better than korra, they offer enough sidepaths, secrets and treasures and they are even fun to navigate thanks to great vehicle control.
- Loot system and RPG elements are more meaty than I though, but I can see constatntly fusing weapons and managing them a bit of a chore, but I'm sure it can give the game a lot of life, for those maniacs of loot.

Basically I had a lot of fun, and I'm taking my time exploring and getting all sub-missions, so for all these people that like to get most of games, it sure won't be as short. (I also playing in Commander difficulty, and is kicking my ass)

So I'm a little bit into it so far, and I like the gameplay. But please tell me the level design gets better. It's kinda dragging down everything else for me. I know Platinum isn't known for great level design, but I don't remember it sucking the fun out of any of their previous games.

Yeah, I love Ironhide

Such heroic nonsense...

Anybody else just transform back and forth because it looks/sounds so cool? haha

I do this too. My kids love watching me play the game. They love it when I do this.

Grabbed it. Going to start on hard. Wish me luck. :P

If you're a Platinum Games veteran, you'll do just fine.

Going to dig into this tonight on the PS4. From what I see the game looks great and is a total nostalgia overload. I'm kinda worried that I won't be able to "get" the combat as I've seen it compared to Rising a lot which I never could get the hang of. Is there an "Easy" mode for people like me, or should I plan on totally getting frustrated with the combat system and giving up after an hour or two?

I doesn't. That is one caveat. Its insanely repetitious and amateurish combined. But hey your TRANSFORMERS and its still damn cool swinging Opt's wide ass around in a circle and smashing folks.

There is indeed an Easy difficulty.

I am no Platinum games pro, but I was able to beat the game with very little deaths.
Though granted that's because the game has a revive item in case you die :3

So for the PC version in regards to resolutions I can confirm that 4K support is in.

What is odd is that it isn't polling directdraw for a list of available resolutions, instead they've hard coded in a bunch and included 4K, but didn't include anything between 1080p and 4K, so folks with 1440p monitors hoping to run in native resolution are SOL.

I've always had the impression that Platinum doesn't transform their UI and other 2D elements numerically, instead configuring their UI for each individual resolution.

Works for console development considering they are locked to 1080p for the foreseeable future, doesn't work on a platform where we've had 1080p for the better part of a decade and looking to move on.

Excellent to hear. Guess I'll start on easy mode and see where that gets me. Thanks!

I think this is true.. the UI displays at what looks like 1080p.. despite running the game in 4k. the UI elements look huge on my 4k tv/monitor

How are the boss fights? I'm not expecting Rising-tier fights, but are they at least fun?

I'm watching someone fight Soundwave right now and it looks like a goddamn blast.

Man, Friday can't come soon enough.

They are a blast and mimicked in some of the challenge rooms. Which some will like and some will find a bit cheap. But there is 1 in particular I loved but its a spoiler.

I've been browsing Transformer forums and all I see are complaints calling this a button masher with a limited cast. Christ TF fans have terrible gaming tastes.

Went to best buy after work to get this but they couldn't find it even though the system said they had 2 in stock :( so I ordered it online and should get it Friday. Totally stoked to play this though!

Honestly, I think I've been enjoying this more than Bayonetta 1/2. The music is awesome, the combat (while quite a bit simpler) feels fucking great, and the bosses have been super awesome thus far

I'm sure the aesthetic/music is just pushing it past Bayo for me. Bayo is a beautiful game but robots > angels all day errday

The first true Megatron fight in Devastation is the best bossfight I've played since Bloodborne. Perfect music, perfect difficulty, so good

Shit even the turret section was a good bit of fun and didn't overstay its welcome

FACK! Both my best buys didn't have it in stock. I just ordered it with my GCU for $39.99. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until the 9th.

that bastard!!!!

i hate UPS (i do sort of)

Don't worry it will only be 4 hours late. Bada bing!
All kidding aside flag the bastard down. I have before haahaha

The only thing I found really bad in the side dudads like the turret game. Was Grimlocs bit. It looked and played poorly from both a technical standpoint and a continuity one if compared to the other sideout gameplay elements.

Reports says 4 hours or so. But I'm like half of that and still on the first level, because I'm taking my time exploring the levs and because I'm playing the highest avaliable difficulty.
Wait what? I did that and its still around 4 MAYBE 5 hours. You just...like walking or something hahaha
All kidding aside I think we all know that Transformers needs some more titles now.

Lot of retries on bosses (commander difficulty) and I often backtracked to see what I might missed. When you play a platinum game, you try to enjoy it to it's fullest. Though I realize most people won't take this amount of time.

I don't want to make any claims like this is the deepest Platinum action game or anything, but I think it might be my favorite in terms of feel and cadence. Vehicle attacks are like, the most satisfying shit ever, and performing a combo, transforming into a vehicle to re-position, then launching into the group of enemies again with a rush attack is endlessly satisfying. It's the mobility of the Vanquish slide mixed with the satisfaction of Platinum's character action.

Use Prime Time, it's pretty much all you need to get by any fight in this game.

I finally beat him. My damage was really poor on him for some reason. It turned into a endurance match.

So 1080p 60 fps on ps4... Any reason to get the pc version instead if I'm going to play at 1080p there too?

Support I guess :P
Well in case you don't have access to your PS4 and have a lappy that can run this, it'd be worth double dipping for PC.

Does this actually tun at 60fps on last gen? Because oh jeez I was gonna wait but I don't think I want to. Seriously if it is just a resolution difference then I'll pick it up on PS3. Though I have a feeling that it won't be the only difference because since when has a Platinum game ever run at stable 60fps on consoles (PS3/360).

I do that will all games not just Platinum. But ya did the same. NO where near as long but as for the boss retries I was on commander and didn't seem to have too much trouble. Except for
the end fight starscream of all things. The camera view killed me so many times.
I think I died 3 times on him and in the most deplorable ways lol. I mean like facing the other way he kills me I die without barely doing any damage to him. Man that was a bit of nutcrunching there

This is one of those games where the platform doesn't matter which is great. Even this game at 4k on PC is like...for what? Game kicks ass on 360/PS3 as well as XB1/PS4/PC...and LOOKS the same.

Man, Friday can't come soon enough.

I've only fought the two first bosses, but so far they've been really really good, and a great challenge (with lots of retries!) on Commander mode (basically Hard diff)

The first true Megatron fight in Devastation is the best bossfight I've played since Bloodborne. Perfect music, perfect difficulty, so good
Yeah, this is a really great fight. Had to retry too many times, too! And loved every second of it!! So many times I would bring his hp down to near zero, but fail! This is the 'get good' fight of the game, like Bladewolf was in Rising.

So. Many. Retries. Bwahahaha. I love it. But yeah, for character action fans playing this on the harder difficulties, I don't think there's any concern about the length of the game.
