How on earth does it troll newbies? It slowly ramps up difficulty. The first enemy is after a step that teaches players they have to jump. Monty moles take a long time to pop out and warn the player with dust and sound. They also teach players that monty moles will pop out when there is dirt, since most of the level is made of grass semisolid platforms. This gives players additional warning. On top of that I provided ample platforms to stay above the enemies altogether and ample powerups (mushrooms, fire flower, yoshi, a propeller mushroom). Then it introduces monty moles that can jump, adding a bit more challenge. Then it features a couple of long jumps over pits full of safety platforms. It ends with a fakeout ending to amuse veterans that seems challenging but all players have to do is stand in front of a wall. It has a very high completion rate. It's no more trolling than the official 1-1s.
I didn't mean any offense, but I'll try to go into detail on the things that brought me to that mindset so at least my criticism will be more constructive.
-The first enemy you're forced to encounter (not counting the harmless wiggler on the house) is a goomba that appears trapped, but as you approach it, a monty mole pops up from under it and charges at you and requires two hits to kill. It's a bait-and-switch that doesn't seem newbie friendly to me.
-The second monty mole pops up just in time to intercept you when you're going for the mushroom.
-Next a line of coins draws you straight into a group of 3 monty moles, which is more of an obstacle than it seems to veteran players.
-Just above that a brick is visible. Jumping up to the brick will break it if you're still big, leaving you to wonder what was in the question block you couldn't see before and can't reach now.
-Next you're suddenly hit with not one, but three winged monty moles at once. I consider winged monty moles to be a bit too unpredictable for beginners, and if you avoid them they can manage to follow you up to the platform where Yoshi is.
-Giant winged monty mole. See above about winged monty moles.
-The giant monty mole on top of the stairs would almost certainly hit a new player.
-The area after the false flagpole with the Rocky Wrench, giant flying bob-ombs, bullet bills, and moles just seems entirely too much for a newbie to encounter at the end of a 1-1. And if you don't know what you're doing you could easily end up dead there. The cannon that breaks the wall for you won't fire while you're standing on it, so you have to get in the path of the bombs or use Yoshi to flutter-jump to the roof.
