Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

So Best Buy didn't deliver the game or send me the pre order codes. Anyone else have this issue?

I don't know if anyone who preordered from Best Buy has gotten preorder codes for the skins. I had no problem getting the game on my porch this morning though. Best Buy hasn't failed me yet in that regard.

This guy has killed me a few times now. At least I get to be Red Alert.

BTW, it's not only a reskin, your voice changes to Red Alert's voice.
They have different voices? Seriously, for the life of me I can't remember Red Alert's voice. Like, his only claim to fame was the Auto Berserk episode.

This game makes me want a Platinum mash up game so bad. Like Bayo, Raiden, Sam, Sam Gideon, the Wonderful Ones, Korra, just like, everyone all in one game.

Anyone having the issue where they aren't turning back into a robot after releasing the transform button? The only way I can get out is by attacking now :(

Hold the button again. You can let go of the button once you're transformed. Holding the button for a short period is how you transform.

Need clarification on PC, since someone mentioned no native 1440p and someone else said DSR wasn't working. Is anyone downsampling this, running at 4k at either 1080p or 1440p? I likely have the hardware to do it, but don't want to get stuck with running the game at 1080.

Yeah, no native 1440p. Downsampling 4k > 1440p using gedosato works fine though

LooKing forward to playing this. A bit miffed that i preordered from best buy but did not get a skin's code. Activision/pg press release specifically said all preorders. Bestbuy is listed on the game website as an authorized pre-order location. I wants my codes!

YES!!!

And Dodge Offset is much more important than in W101 or Rising since you want the combo finishers to activate the transformation attacks. I absolutely love doing a transformation attack from the end of the combo and linking into a new rush attack --> transformation attack. So satisfying.

I'm also finding ranged attacks pretty useful. In harder boss fights, given how much hp they have and how quickly they can drain away yours if you're careful, I found myself being very methodical in efficiently withering away their health via linking up as many safe combos as I could, and using ranged weapons when it wasn't as safe or when they were just knocked too far away for me to instantly link up melee attacks. Knock them away with a combo, then launch rockets where they land! Or dash them in car mode while deploying your gun at the same time! Yeah!
It's nice to have dodge offset as a central mechanic again after it was nearly reduced to a novelty in TW101 and MGR.

Transformation combos are hype as hell. I totally didn't anticipate how dynamic they'd make the combat. It's like Platinum said "Bayonetta's panther was cute. Now let's see what happens when we plug transformations into the combat system proper. Please enjoy getting your face kicked in by all this awesome!"

And yeah, I'm loving the ranged weapons. I was kind of wary about them after MGR, where they slowed down combat too much, but once again Platinum found a way to improve on a feature they've used before. The guns are as accurate and responsive as you'd hope. Nice variety too.

Oh, and this time you can light up the city with a flamethrower while burning rubber as a sports car. Fuck outta here. The children of the 80s weren't ready for this crazy business.

For the PS4 version, I just realized the dualshock controller light thing whatever actually changes color depending on who you're playing as.

Unprecedented current gen features, gotf.
I said goddamn! That Platinum attention to detail.

Anyone having the issue where they aren't turning back into a robot after releasing the transform button? The only way I can get out is by attacking now :(
That's a feature, I think. Hold dodge again to transform back. You're not supposed to keep it pressed down to stay in vehicle mode.

Yeah, he sounds like a really swell guy. Seriously, most Autobots are fucking assholes. I wonder how OP put up with them.

I've always liked Red Alert a lot (see my avatar, see my twitter avatar too!) since long before this game was announced because of how he'd go crazy. I am getting a nice kick out of getting to play as him.

i thought the first chapter was maze like too, i kept going off on side paths and finding chests/side missions for a while and eventually somehow ended up back at the start of the level

then i realized that i was so zoned out playing that i hadn't actually noticed there was a minimap that showed where the next objective was

i probably looked at it once and then forgot about it for like 90 minutes

Yeah that helps. Just finished chapter one, although I'm still in the same area?

So far, this is awesome. It's just as crazy as any other Platinum game, with its mix of melee combo combat, vehicular transformation, third/first-person shooting and Destiny loot shenanigans complete with its own version of the Cryptarch.

The only "disappointment" is that the story is a total afterthought, it's just there, but the voice acting is nostalgic and endearing enough.

Damn, no option for resolutions beyond 1920x1080, just like Rising.

I cannot get over how good this game is. Oh my god.

Edit: I'm a little worried that you can eventually just go back to bosses and cheese them with a ton of repair kits and what not. Just turn them into item endurance matches. Devastator was really challenging until I turned it back down to normal, went through the first level, restarted it on hard, and went after him with more items and better weapons/stats.

Just finished it up about an hour ago and the game clock was around five and a half hours. Immediately started it back from the beginning with Optimus to grind out some more levels.

You done good Platinum.

Most Platinum games are susceptible to cheesing, yes? It's the nature of any action game that lets you replay chapters as much as you want.

Aren't there two difficulty levels above Hard anyway? The toughest one ought to be a good challenge.

Grimlock fun facts:
- Pressing B once in Dino mode makes him go fast enough to do a rush attack. Lets you chain rush attacks together really quickly or position yourself right in front of a shielded enemy so you don't miss.
- He accelerates on his own just like the Autobots, but mashing B will help him get to max speed a lot faster. Once at max speed mashing B doesn't seem to do anything so spare your controller/keyboard the abuse.

There's an unwritten rule for characters action games in that you don't use items. I mean, feel free to use them, but they're only really there as a crutch.

Yup, 2 more.

This is somewhat subjective, but why aren't any of the cool Gen 1 autobots in this? Prowl, Ironhide, Jazz, Hound. Even though Bumblebee is a focal point in the movies, in the cartoon he was lame. Wheeljack and Red Alert? Hmmph..

Only thing I can think of is dlc.

I don't know whether I should be happy or sad that this thread already has double the posts that the Fall of Cybertron ever had.

I'm super psyched to play this though. Now give me a TMNT game made by Platinum!

Sweet fuck, you can drift in vehicle mode by holding B. I was just thinking to myself, "Wouldn't it be neat if there was a button to turn more sharply when I'm this bigass truck?" And sure enough...

Based Platinum.

Played it for about 30 minutes and I'm loving it. The aiming and shooting feels a bit weird and I'm not sure is there a way to just transform back to the robot form without performing any attacks (pressing L1/RB again makes the character retransform to the vehicle form).

I also haven't found a way to equip any of the new loot - can it be only identified between missions or am I blind?

Tip for aiming: auto-aim (where the aim button snaps you to a target) is enabled by default. You can turn it off in the options.

Loot management happens in the Ark, which you access through one of the big green portal things. You'll know it when you see it.

Transforming is triggered by holding the dodge button for a moment, no matter which mode you're in. You can cancel the recovery animation with an attack when you're going into robot mode.

Ah, thank you. Must've missed the auto-aim setting.

OMFG, advanced dodge offset is in this game, just like Bayonetta! What you do is attack and hold the button, then dodge before the attack even comes out. Keep doing this for every button input in a combo, and when you reach the attack you want, just press the button as normal without canceling with a dodge. You can go straight into a transform attack this way.

This game keeps on giving!

It was crazy that there was no penalty fo using lolipops in Bayonetta 2; that shit destroyed your score in the first game.

Aw, Michael Bayonetta didn't make it? Oh well.

I forgot this game came out so soon. It'll end up being one of my main purchases once we get a PS4.

Slight correction to what I posted before: you don't have to hold the attack button, just tap it, then tap dodge, then input the next attack in the combo right away. It works like MGR's dodge offset, I think.

I'm still looking for a way to preserve my combo while in vehicle mode. Hopefully there's an equivalent to panther offset in this game.

It's...okay. The combat is at worst servicable, but usually better, elevated by Platinum's understanding of nuanced hit feedback and satisfying game systems that keep you on edge. Just beating up dudes is fun enough.

But I don't know. I'm not feeling the levelling junk and loot system (this is acting as a bit if a deterrent for Scalebound, to be honest), I don't like the big city labyrinth of chapter one because there's nothing particularly engaging about the level design, and the shooting feels pretty bad. Aiming doesn't seamlessly trigger while holding the button and coming out of a roll or car mode which is a baffling oversight from a company otherwise consistently on point with their control systems.

Wait. This is confusing. I WANT TO LEARN.

1) What advantages does this give you?
2) How do you dodge before the attack comes out if you've pressed attack before dodge?

The way it worked in Bayonetta was like this:

Say you want to land a punch, kick, punch combo, the last punch of which would be a 'wicked weave' attack and do huge damage. You land the first punch and kick, but see an attack incoming that you know will hit you before you get the last punch out, so you keep kick held down while you dodge and you will still get your combo finisher when you hit punch after coming out of the dodge.

It was pretty vital to Bayonetta's combat as it stops your combo being reset and lets you land wicked weaves on fast enemies which attack relentlessly and require a lot of dodging.

I almost feel a little hamstrung without the mechanic these days.

He's worded it confusingly.

1. Advantage is that your combos don't get interrupted when you dodge, or get to a powerful move (in this case transform attack) faster.
2. Some attacks have long animations, holding the attack while dodging will cancel the animations, but still count as part of the combo even if you don't finish them.

If you absolutely loved transformers like I did when I was 6 years old, then the game delivers a lot more. I can see that it's a bit bland aside from all the nostalgia fan service, but the combat is definitely fun.

Took a bit of convincing to get over the $50 hump, but I did it.

Started on Commander, because that's what you do, and I felt completely comfortable with the controls in half an hour. It's a beautiful thing. Even SS ranked the second battle with Megatron and decided to call it a night.

The soundtrack is appropriate, Platinum knows how to do these things.

I did love Transformers, and that obviously brings the package together just as it would any other with associated love for a franchise. The fact it's a decent looking and very self aware G1 homage is wonderful, because I figured we'd never see anything like that.

The combat is great. Platinum never fucks that up. But I dunno, I'm not feeling the drive (pun intended) to push through the levels, which are barren to look at and not particularly enjoyable to navigate.

11 gigs if I recall.

11GB when installed, my download was ~4.5GB. There might have been another download of the rest of the data after that initial 4.5GB download that I didn't see, because I turned off my TV and came back later when it was all done.

GOTY all years.

This game seems just ok to me so far. Combat is fun and the nostalgia/fan service is great, but the world, and the way you progress seems very low budget. Feels like Disney Infinity or Lego game in terms of level design. I'm only on chapter one, but it's really not a very immersive world where you feel like you're in the movie or tv show. I'm going to keep playing since it's fun, and they did nail the look I loved from childhood. I think pricing it at $30 or $40 would've been more appropriate.

Meh, I thought I explained it straightforwardly enough. You're just canceling each attack by tapping the dodge button before it can hit. That's what separates advanced dodge offset from the regular version. You replace one or more hits in a combo by dodging, instead of letting the attacks connect first.

If you do it fast enough, you barely even see the beginning of the attack animation.

Yeah, they're lightning fists. I can't remember if they dropped like that or if I combined them with something to give them that effect(or if that's even possible )
