Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Anyone know how to activate that one purple device thing that makes a chest appear early in Mission 1? I bonk it and it flips for a second, then turns purple again. I've tried every attack I have. Maybe it needs to be hit with a certain element?

There's also another one in a dead end later on in Mission 1 that behaves the same way. It's above a pile of debris, so I can only reach it with ranged weapons.

What exactly do the stats do?

STR

CRG (what?)

SPD

FRB (what?)

SKL

END

INT

RNK
Quoting for the new page. I wondered about this too.

CRG might be courage. Not sure about FRB. I have no idea what either of those stats do.

(I need this game asap)

Ok I'm really feeling the game now. The early parts weren't so hot, pretty fun but kinda bland and pulled down by dull level and environment design. But I got to the
triple changer
boss (forgot his name already) and now fighting
Motormaster
. This feels like a Platinum game. Not on the level of Bayonetta or TW101 though. Not yet anyway.

Bumblebee is so dope. I love his special L1 ability how he dashes under the enemy's legs. So cool. Sideswipe is cool too, but Bumblebee's speed and moveset has the closest feel to Bayonetta so I feel the most comfortable playing as him.

If anyone wants a little light reading to tide them over until they get home to play, here are some links to PDFs of the official game manual:

PS4 / PS3

XB1 / X360

TFD doesn't do the best job at explaining its systems in-game, but this should help you get the gist of what each of the character stats represent and info on the various status effects in the game.

(Man, I miss printed manuals.)

The manual helps explain these since they don't seem to be explained in the game anywhere.

Thanks for the PDF link, gonna read it on the bus ride to bestbuy tomorrow. (By the way, anyone have a answer for the dlc question there yet?)

Here's a image of the stats for those who can't view the pdf.

Thanks!

I dumped a few too many points in Optimus's STR stat thinking it was for melee damage, lol.

BTW, I like how five of the status effects slow or stop enemies. Dat variety! I'm guessing there must be a difference in how they work? I've only tried ice and lightning weapons so far. Not too effective since they're only level 5.

when I raise INT or SKL (which are apparently exactly the same thing) neither causes my range attack power to go up.

A stupid question, but how do you get more ammo? Also, can you increase the limit? Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it feels I'm running out of it all the time.

And maybe I'm doing something wrong here too, but how is the shooting so clunky? How are you supposed to kill the ranged enemies? There must be something I'm missing because the shooting feels so clunky it feels almost impossible to kill them if they move. I dunno.

The melee is fun though.

I've been palying the game mostly with guns. Specifically, the photon disruptor. Chapter 3 so far.

The game is actually much easier this way than focusing only on melee. This gun kills bosses fast.

Ammo is in the blue cubes that enemies and destructibles (like cars) drop.

Experiment with the weapon types. Some of them have crazy range and home in really well.

I can't for the life of me beat Blitzwing on Commander difficulty. His attacks are just too fast and damaging, and I can't knock him out of any of them. Plus, my own attacks barely hurt him.

I haven't reached him yet, but have you tried parrying a lot? That's how I wrecked the Constructicons.

I've tried, and I haven't gotten very good at it yet. His attacks come out very fast, and my parry attempts fail half the time. I'll keep trying though.

Just beat Blitzwing without throwing a single melee attack. Photon Gun is just too strong..

The cutscenes look pretty bad. They'd have been better off just doing them in-engine.

blitzwing is stage 3 right?
i beat him on commander in my first attempt.
he wasnt easy though.
i had all the upgrades for enabling parries focus etc
dodge his airplane mode and IF you time it, shoot him in slomo
dodged is tank mode in the face , had optimus with a lv11 A grade lightning hammer.

didnt even try to parry, eats up half the life bar if i screw up

So first day sales on Steam show it had sold 2K units so far, I think first month sales at best would be 10K units sold across all platforms :X

Note that steamspy may not be entirely accurate as there's always a margin of error.

Opinions seem to be favorable so far? True platinum action? I'll buy it this weekend if that's true.
If action gameplay is the main draw for you, you won't be disappointed. The combat system more than makes up for what's lacking in the environments. The game feels damn good to play and it's deceptively deep for what might appear to be a barebones brawler.

Game is fantastic so far. The way they utilize the vehicle mode in combat is so good. It's like they looked at how people were using panther mode and panther mode offset in Bayo and broke it out into a full piece of the gameplay.

Combat just FEELS good and impactful. Ranged weapons even do a ton of damage but are balanced by not giving you a lot of ammo, so they are useful to just take out a pesky far range enemy in the middle of a combo.

People complaining about lack of combos, have you checked the move list? There is plenty and probably around the same amount as Rising. Not that it needs lots of specific combos to be a good action game, as w101 and Rising aren't really combo heavy either but have their own systems that make it work. My bread and butter XXX pause YY is there with the added bonus of vehicle attacks to close. Good stuff.

The open levels are kinda cool because usually in these games the secret missions are just placed to make you backtrack, where as here you can explore more avenues or places that have been opened up by story beats etc and find them.

I dug Korra and thought it was probably the best a character action game can get at a 15 dollar msrp. Transformers feels more like Rising or Vanquish level Platinum production.

If you absolutely loved transformers like I did when I was 6 years old, then the game delivers a lot more. I can see that it's a bit bland aside from all the nostalgia fan service, but the combat is definitely fun.

Maybe an outlier here, but my only real exposure to Transformers is a few random Youtube videos of various stuff, the first Bay film, High Moon's games and the Universal Studios ride. Devastation has possibly my favorite Platinum combat system (adding vehicle shit and third-person shooting to the tried and true Bayo formula is a revelation), and the soundtrack is possibly my favorite of the year (between that and Hotline Miami 2). Only real issues here for me are the lack of environmental diversity and overall game length (though replay value is very high). Beaten it twice already and it's one of my favorite games of the year.

Just cleared it. Game was absolutely awesome.

Cleared on hard, playtime was just over 6 hours.

Combat was deep, engaging, and exhilarating all the way through. Fun bosses with kickass music. Goofy transformers dialogue. Weapon fusion. Grimlock suplexes. Only major downsides are the cheap production values (ie environment reuse and simple graphics) and there was one gimmick section that I wish was shorter.

In short, I stayed up until the early morning glued to my seat, and my thumbs are sore. And honestly? After work tomorrow I want to play it some more. Another platinum classic.

The Blitzwing fight on the beach is classic Platinum. It's like a Bayo/Jean, or Raiden/Sam duel as you're just tearing up this coastline with a nice skybox in the background and rocking music driving the whole thing. You can see the budget in the environments, but the combat is sooooooooooo good.

wait until the final boss

Pretty gutting if the numbers are around that mark, i was hoping it will become a sleeper hit or something
It will be. Note that it's only out in US territories and EU won't release until Friday.

Hear-say advertising will only go up once it's released here.

Don't forget that the Transformers IP is kinda niche in gaming. Bayonetta has way more appeal to gamers in general (female protoganist, sexual innuendos). Transformers tickles the nostalgia of only a small amount of the gaming community (the majority of TF fans being 25 - 30+).

Us TF fans will pick it up, even if it scores around a 7 overall. NON TF fans will be likely to leave it, because they don't have the connection with the characters and will only see it as a generic/ mediocre game.
It's up to us to spread the word that it's, in fact, not a bad game at all and that it is on par with MG Rising and Bayonetta.

As soon as people start looking through the aesthetics (dont know if I spelled it correctly), they'll appreciate the game for what it is. A more than decent brawler.

So sales won't exactly skyrocket, but for a game which is targeted at a certain audience, it won't do bad I can assure you.
