I could have been okay
with turning him into a villain, but then they killed him. I think villain!Jacen could have been a decent recurring villain. That was probably one of my biggest problems with the post-Bantam books. It actually felt that they were killing off more characters than they took the time to develop.

Nah, it was screwed the moment Lucas forced them to use Jacen instead of Anakin Solo and kill Anakin Solo off.

Speaking of wacky Imperial vehicle designs...

My man Bossk needs his time in the limelight though.

Bossk got some decent screentime in the Clone Wars series. Hilariously, he is Boba Fett's loyal comrade in the show (and speaks English quite well for a 7 foot tall lizard man who only growled in the movie). There's even episode with Boba, Bossk, Dengar, and a few other county hunters trying to defend a train's cargo.

Speaking of Clone Wars, best bounty hunter in Star Wars will always be Cad Bane.
Badass enough to hold his own against Jedi with his guile, tech, and fighting skills? Check.

Master strategist who outwits the heroes in every appearance and always has a contingency plan? Check.

Breaks out of prison on such a regular basis one of his plans involves letting himself become a prisoner? Check.

Willing to kill a guy just to take his hat? Check.

Cool unique cowboy alien design? Check.

Amazing voice provided by Corey Burton? Check.

Based on Lee Van Cleef in The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly? Check.

Cad Bane is unquestionably amazing.

Gotta love Imperial design philosophy. Because if it doesn't have a spherical cockpit, how will they know we're the Empire?

The TIE Drone and TIE Phantom are aesthetically some of the better TIE variants from the UE, in my opinion. Especially the Phantom which pulls off the three solar panel design better than the Defender.

Now if you want to talk about real eye-sours from the EU

The TIE Agressor, which looks like someone took a hatchet to a TIE Advance x1.

The TIE Oppressor, where someone tried to make a TIE Defender by attaching three Interceptor wing panels on backwards.

And the TIE... something. Not even wookiepedia knows what to call this hodgepodge of spare Interceptor and Bomber parts.

2 out 3 came from Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed. That game seems to have brought some real winning designs to the table.

I can't look at the TIE Drone and not think it's threatening to fork me to death while it screams "PASTA TIME!". My only real criticism of the Phantom is that it had a cloaking device. I think that was the first ship in the EU that my teenage brain decided this was getting silly.

But I digress, another favorite: the TIE Hunter. Now with 60% less wings!

Wait....so he created Super Midichlorians....that do the exact same shit Midichlorians normally do (immortality) except lamer?

Well, I guess the idea was he still wanted a body to go with that immortality rather than be a force ghost? EDIT: And why even do that when transfer essence existed?

Can sith even become force ghosts? EDIT: yep, they can.

Side-note: apparently The Sith and The Sith are two different things.

Speaking of the Thrawn trilogy, someone should mention Ralrra, the Wookiee with the speech impediment that allows him to speak basic, but with elongated 'R's like Tony the Tiger.

He can't speak basic, his speech impediment just made it easier to understand what he was saying to those that didn't quite grasp the language, but harder for wookies.

In the new canon, no.
You must train your mind in 3 areas in order for it to become strong enough to stay individual in the force and have influence over midichlorians, self acceptance, reject the easy way, value the worldly things but not let them hold you back.

All those things are incompatible with Sith dogma. Its reasonable to assume the Sith can't create a Force Ghost

yeah but this is about the EU

lol a general article like that and Aayla gets half the pictures on the page

not to be an ass, but did she do anything worth remembering? I can't remember a thing. Maybe in one of the Clone Wars episodes I skipped?

Yes, she appeared in both Clone Wars.
And yes her only merit is being "the hot one"

Man I remember when I was 10 years old or so I used to read Wookiepedia all the time, no idea it had this much stupid shit lmao

As silly as the original EU was, I still enjoyed it for the 15-20 years it was around. There are still great moments and a lot of wasted potential but it was a fun ride.

The darkhorse comics, for the most part, are legitimately great once they get to the Old Republic line and onwards.

Also tangent, are the new "path to the new movie" comics any good? Are the novels? I feel like I should read them to get some context on how the rebels went from being victorious to being destroyed in like, 20 minutes.

Can they still manifest in Sith Holocrons?

What the fuck? Han Vs Lord Otter?

Hey 1990s, tell Image Comics to come get their reject!

Don't have a problem with her "lightwhip" more than her overall design. She looks like something to appeal to 00s kids. Look, I can look cool and trendy, just like the modern MTV gen! I hate when franchises do shit like this. "Hey, yeah, I might be an alien, but I like Starbucks too! Add me on MySpace and sign my Geocities guestbook!".

This is just fuckin pathetic. It's almost like the kinda art some Boba Fett fangirl would draw to go with her fanfic romance story of where SHE meets Boba Fett and the two marry and have children. "Only I understand him, and only I can tame the such a brooding man!!!". Urgh!!

For as undenably goofy the experimental TIE designs are, they are part of my favorite mission from X-Wing Alliance: (Headphones warning) Battle #2, Mission 5: Defend CRS Liberty. They forgo the traditional mission briefing to say "Holy shit! We're under attack! Scramble!" and whisk you off to launching into a huge battle already in progress. Having to defend the Liberty from waves of remote controller kamikazi TIEs is very harrowing and very appropriate given how much starfighter combat in Star Wars riffs off the Pacific carrier campaign in WWII.

Yeah, that's a great mission. I love the sense of urgency around it.

Shadows of the Empire was actually declared non cannon some years ago, I believe it was the time the Force Unleashed came out. Ironically enough it was Shadows that convinced Lucas and the people under him that customers still wanted Star Wars thanks to the push that Shadows was given at the time and how fans reacted. If not for that we might not have had the movies re released in theaters. Mind you it was the special editions.

I don't hate the EU as much as some people did, there were some good concepts and characters. If it had been treated better it could have been great. It did in the end help keep Star Wars out there for people so it did it's task.

I just recently picked Tales of the Bounty Hunters, my first SW book ever - reading some comments here I can't tell if I made a good choice or not.

No goddamn way. Holy smokes.

I just recently picked Tales of the Bounty Hunters, my first SW book ever - reading some comments here I can't tell if I made a good choice or not.

Might I also recommend Lost Stars? A little schmaltzy on the romance/YA, but at least there are no Robo-legged Darth Mauls and Horse Pilots and X-Treme Lightsaber Armor Dudes to be found.

The other "Tales" books are pretty good, like Tales from the Empire and Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina.

I'd also vouch for Ann Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy.
