Is it common to make big multi-topping sandwiches in the US?

See this korvsmörgås thing looks like it could taste okay, google says that falu is slightly similar to or has similar uses as deli ham...but it'd be an odd breakfast here to put butter and ham on bread with zero other preparation. And even if it were bologna on toast that wouldn't be like, a mouth-watering dish haha. Like I can't imagine getting worked up over the idea of having bread butter and some deli meat. I'd eat it and have eaten it, but it's not a craving
Well, did you ask for it on a roll? You have to empathize the "roll" part.

as a midwesterner: a lot of places wouldn't have a roll. The breakfast place I worked at in HS and all the breakfast places around me had bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, but not on rolls. usually a hearty wheat or sourdough or rye

I admit it's not classy and certainly not a staple like the cheese sandwich I posted earlier. But it's my favorite breakfast sandwich.

Oh, I see the butter now. So wonder bread, butter, with some bologna on top.

Whatever floats your boat, man. That still ain't a sandwich.

Buen provecho

I mean Sweden doesn't really have much of a culinary culture compared to southern Europe but god damn we make awesome breakfast sandwiches. What about a korvsmörgås? Uncooked Falu sausage on a sandwich (ie bread with butter). Like sex in your mouth. And no this is not a troll post. It is that good. Someone asked about my ideal sandwich and here it is.

Oh dear. That looks terribly unappetizing. :( But again, it's not a traditional "sandwich" by US terms unless that second slice of bread was on top of the other to close it. This would be "a piece of bread with some scary looking meat thing on it" here.

In Texas, we do breakfast tacos and bacon (or beef), egg and cheese is a staple.

I'm originally from Florida and I honestly can't remember having too many instances of cheese on my scrambled eggs as a kid. But my mom would do what she called an "egg bagel sandwich" and that would have a slice of cheese on the egg in between the bagels.

It kind of looks like this:

That is the breakfast for the majority of people who are working professionals in a rush.

All the fucking Reubens posted though, that's not breakfast for you guys, right? The stuff your lolling at is literally the Swedish equivalent of a Croissant or something.

No. A Reuben is not normally a breakfast meal.

It's a hearty lunch and its meant to be eaten as a full meal.

Ideal sandwich?

Nothing better than finding the unassuming authetic cuban place and getting a pan con lechon or a cubano

That looks like something we would serve in a prison.

Enjoy I guess..,

Not even bagels?

I am going to thank my breakfast guy this Saturday when I go to grab my morning sandwich and coffee.

What about a Swedish breakfast followed by an American sandwich lunch? I could accept that. Those American sandwiches do look delicious, although also calorie bombs.

Did someone just say that Falu meat has horse meat????

Sure it's a mix of different types of meat. We do eat horse here. For some hilarious reason they call it "hamburger meat" although everyone knows what it actually is and there isn't really a stigma surrounding it so it's basically just weird:

That does look good. You should have started with that one :p

But I got to say, that looks more like an appetizer than a meal

Well, it basically is.

You do? Then why are so many saying it doesn't qualify as a sandwich if it doesn't have another piece of bread on top?
I never heard of an open faced sandwich till today and I was born and raised here. Must be really niche or something, or have another more common name

Well, it basically is.

Because it's from Hamburg, not from hamburger.

Why do you guys just not combine the two into one sandwich like we do?

Do you guys like trying to eat the bread without touching the cheese/meat? Is it some kind of weird game?!

If you put more bread on it then you need more toppings and then it becomes even harder to eat. It's a vicious circle where no one wins.

Have you never had a bread with toppings like tomato or cheese or whatnot? This is more akin to that than a typical sandwich

This thread is hilarious, I can't believe we have 17 pages (50ppp for lyfe!) arguing about this! That "poverty", "struggle" sandwhich is pretty much what I grew up eating all the time... Or something equally "sad" like this:

Now, this I won't condone! Falukorv has no place on a sandwich.

It hasn't been this bad since the war of "Wait, Americans don't have electric kettles?". Oh I remember the famous battle of "You MICROWAVE water?!".

Open faced sandwiches here are loaded with too much meat or other toppings and the bread won't hold together when picked up. Cheese on a slice of bread or bologna (or spam) on a slice of bread is still just cheese on a slice of bread and doesn't earn the sandwich designation.

I live in the U.S. and I love my sandwiches, but you guys showing off sandwiches with like 3 pounds of meat, I mean come on. If you don't have the proper balance between bread, meat and toppings, you're doing it all wrong. Sorry to offend you "NYC deli sandwiches are only real sandwiches" but that shit is just a mound of quality meat with a couple pieces of bread slapped on.

Hah, yeah those kinda baffle me too. At that point why not just get a steak? I guess I can't really judge because I've never eaten such a monstrosity, but yeah the balance seems all out of whack.

Any update on that shoot-out from the other sandwich thread?

Also, I haven't gone a single day of my life without a butter + Marmite sandwich. Not one.

I need to study Sweden in detail. Find out their food traditions.

I need to know if those Ikea meatballs are filled with horse meat.

Steak is expensive. The idea is to show value to the customer, and you'd mostly take a bunch of meat off to save for a later meal. That's how it originated anyway.
