PS4 gets a new, lower price starting Friday: $349.99

What a weak price cut. Should be $299 for 500GB and $349 for 1TB. Sony will have to be more aggressive on bundles this holiday to go neck and neck or even beat Xbone.

It's still the best selling console at $399. They will move plenty with this modest price cut. $299 you start giving too much money away which is a no no in the corporate world.

It's been consistently beating the Xbone at a higher price. Now the prices are the same, you think the XBone is suddenly going to win? Halo 5 will push consoles, but so will the COD and Starwars bundles for the PS4.

Yeah, hardware sales will be close in October because of Halo, but after that? Fuhgeddaboudit.

I still give the edge to MS simply because of Halo. But this price cut right now with the UCC bundle out tomorrow is good. Should provide a nice boost this month. I would assume we'll start seeing some agressive advertising from Sony about this starting tomorrow.

This deal really starts to help out on November. Seriously that battlefront Bundle for $350 will shift serious numbers. Not to mention holiday/Black Friday bundles from retailers

Regardless of whether you are wrong or right, the objective function they are maximizing isn't "beat Xbone this holiday".

There will be a ton of systems sold in the next couple of months. Microsoft was already commenting before on a planned PS4 price cut. I imagine all those Xbox One bundles will be flogged during Black Friday until they are all sold out. Either way it's great to see the consumer is in a great position no matter which they buy. Aside from the WiiU which Nintendo always seems to be the least aggressive of the bunch.

It's not a football game. "Beat the other guys" isn't the primary objective. Making money and growing their market is.

Could of waited for Paris Games Show...bigger splash then. I guess A-Creed marketing pushed it earlier? Perhaps not...

Huh? What would announcing this at PGW do to change the price cut besides delay it?

Sony did a good job keeping this under wraps. They seem to better keep secrets this generation.

You have Uncharted collection releasing the same day as the price drop. I rather doubt many casual gamers care about PGW. I would expect a European price cut there. I think it makes the most sense now, and it will raise the PS4 sales numbers vs Halo 5 boost.

Does this also affect Destiny Taken King bundle or only the ones listed? I'm kind of ready to jump on the PS4 train rather than wait til Black Friday deals.

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool. :D

Withouth joke, i still think XB1 will win, but if before i thought the difference would be 50-100k, now is definitive gonna to be close... :P

Gonna say 2-2.5 million.
Halo 3 sold 3,300,000 in 10 days, and Halo 4 sold the same in around 25 days.

Halo 5 has 4 days, so, seem reasonable for me.
Wouldn't that actually mean it'll sell less? IMHO going by your post I'd say Halo 5 does something like 2.7 million or so in those four days.

Which would still be really good. But tbh I think the franchise reached its sales peak w/ Halo 3.

Must admit that I was wrong. Really thought that Sony would go with the revised console, 1TB hard drive and disc based game packed in for $400 over any price drop. One thing is for sure, the competition for October, November and December just became more interesting.

Winning is maximizing profits, not simply a dick measuring contest of most units sold. Bear in mind that MS is the one playing catchup and having to drop kinect/bundle 3 games/cut price and various other incentives just to be competitive. 'Playstation', Star wars' and 'bundle' in the same sentence is going to be huge this holiday season regardless of what MS is doing

I believe Halo will overcome this month, even with this price drop.

Personally I think the people who love xbox exclusives Are the early adapters. I think the game is gonna sell great. I just question what % of Halo fans don't already have a Xone.

$50? Bleh. I expected the worst but still hoped for the best. Oh wells. Isn't this the first Sony console whose first pricedrop wasn't at least $100? I remember PS2/PS3 got the $100 slash. Fuzzy memory on the original PS though.

Imagine if a store does a specific Black Friday bundle with that (or the Uncharted bundle) where they add in Call of Duty, Destiny, or Assassin's Creed, and sell it for $399.99?

So you save $10 at most? Destiny probably won't even be $60 on Black Friday. I don't understand.

That $350 Star Wars bundle is certainly going to move some units.

I would expect even better deals than that for BF. Probably another bundled game (or ideally game of your choice) for $350.

As i said, in 10 days, Halo 3 sold 3,300,000. And those were September days.
Halo 4 sold the same of Halo 3, but in 25 days, and in November, with Black Friday...

That's not much, i mean, in a better month, with more days, and a WAY bigger istallat base, Halo 4 failed to sell more than Halo 3. Seem reasonable think Halo 5 will sell even less than Halo 4, so... 2.7 million is too much, imo.

I will go with 2.3 million.

But the drop Month 1 ---> month 2 will be small than the others Halo games.

Halo 3 sold 3,300,000 in September, and then 434,000 in October, which is a massive -87% drop, Halo 5 should drop by 70/75 % in my opinion.

Okay, what if they made it +2 games instead of +1. So, say one bundle could be a PS4 and Star Wars: Battlefront plus Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Destiny: The Taken King, and 12 months of PS+ for $399.99. Then maybe they could also do PS4 and Uncharted The Nathan Drake: Collection, plus Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Bloodborne (plus DLC), and 12 months of PS+ for $399.99. I could see a retailer calling them "The Shooter Fan Bundle" and "The Adventure Fan Bundle". Would these be good Black Friday deals? Adding it up, the standard bundles plus the added games and PS+ subscription would cost $519.99 individually. So, instead of paying $349.99 and getting 1 game, you would be spending $50 more (which would cover all but $10 of one of the extra two games) to get $120 worth of stuff extra. I could see Black Friday being really nuts this year.
