PS4 gets a new, lower price starting Friday: $349.99

Yep. Once the limited Vader PS4s sell out, that's the bundle Sony will ride all through the rest of the year. Should put up huge numbers.

Yup and I can see Sony being very aggressive with that as well. Imagine a holiday promotion where they offer that bundle plus another game like Fallout 4, COD, AC.

People need to realize Sony is in a much better position this Holiday. Although they may not "win". They won't be beaten by as big a gap like last year.

If it's not going to significantly cause a boost in sales (which there is a good chance it wouldn't) what's the point? They'd just be throwing away money.

Well I don't think immediate effects should be the only thing to consider. The longer the console remains expensive and unappealing the more it will alienate people than it already has. Although a price drop may not produce an immediate spike in sales, I think that long term more people would consider it at some point and actually remember that it exists.

lol, it's the Wii U man. that situation has been set in stone since 2013.

Okay, what if they made it +2 games instead of +1. So, say one bundle could be a PS4 and Star Wars: Battlefront plus Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Destiny: The Taken King, and 12 months of PS+ for $399.99. Then maybe they could also do PS4 and Uncharted The Nathan Drake: Collection, plus Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Bloodborne (plus DLC), and 12 months of PS+ for $399.99. I could see a retailer calling them "The Shooter Fan Bundle" and "The Adventure Fan Bundle". Would these be good Black Friday deals?

Yeah, that would be a pretty killer deal.

There is no "long game" for the Wii U. It's dead. Nintendo just needs to try and ride out the next year or so (or however long it takes to release the NX) while losing as little money as possible.

Personally I think the people who love xbox exclusives Are the early adapters. I think the game is gonna sell great. I just question what % of Halo fans don't already have a Xone.

I'm sort of a lapsed Halo fan, but have no interest in the XBone until they release a "slim" version that can be placed vertically. And probably for less than $300.

The power of the monado lol.

Friend just bought one yesterday aaahahaha. Can they price-match that shit?

Yes, pretty much every place will price match it within 14-30 days depending on their policies.

Also, did we figure out if this applies to the Destiny bundle or not?

Personally I hope this pressures Nintendo to drop the price of the Wii U.

Probably not going to happen, but I can hope.

PS4 at $350 is a good move to help compete with Halo 5's launch. However, I think Sony's losing out on money considering the PS4 is doing great.

This $50 drop is going to increase PS4 sales but I don't think it will be a lot since the PS4 is already doing so well. I feel that Sony should have saved the first price drop until they could get the system down to $299. $299 is when "casuals" really jump aboard/buy and that would have been even bigger news.

Either way, 360/PS3 gen will be dead after this Holiday. Xbox One and PS4 are at great prices and have many good games/bundles coming (some current gen only). I'll be getting a PS4 in 2016 (as long as Street Fighter 5, Uncharted 4, and Horizon live up to expectations).

It was never going to drop to $299 from $399 like some predicted, the margin Sony are making is probably pretty awesome and they're raking it in, the system is doing great in all regions and it has some good bundles too.

Maybe they just shouldn't release anything since they're doing so good.

Tell us how you really feel.

I just think $350 is still too much. I bought my PS4 day one for $400, and that was 2 years ago. Their exclusives have left a LOT to be desired. I bought TLOU again despite having just completed it on PS3 like 3 months prior, because I was desperate for something to play besides BF4.

For the most part, you can still buy the same games on PS3 or 360. You have access to pretty much all the same media apps on last gen. Yes, 3rd party games obviously look/play better on current gen, but where's the must have games for PS4? I'm talking about games with mass appeal, not Bloodborne or a short, mediocre sequel to a mediocre franchise. Driveclub plays decently, but it has one of the worst car rosters I've seen in a long time. The DS4, while ergonomically a huge leap forward, it has sticks that start to come apart after a few months of heavy play, and an absolutely atrocious battery life.

So far, Knack has been their most ambitious title. I mean, come on. PS4 should cost $300 at the absolute most IMO.

If we're talking BF... How about the Battlefront bundle @$349, 3 months PS+, and a game of your choice between

Fallout 4
Destiny TTK
Assassin's Creed Syndicate
COD BLOPS3

?

I believe Halo will overcome this month, even with this price drop.

It's a good test, the environment today is totally different , we have Destiny and other shooters coming , and Xbone is not the leading console.

Halo is big but has lost "mojo" , lets see how this ends.

NPD is going to be interesting.

The silence is deafening from those who were adamant the PS4 wouldn't receive a price drop because Sony was 'winning'.

It should not have received a drop. It doesn't need a drop. But that's cool. Good for everyone that there's a drop.

It's not like you "win" something by being right that there was going to be a drop. I'm not hanging my head in shame that I thought a drop was unnecessary and unlikely. Who cares.

I think Sony is still doing things on their own rhythm. Now it's the time to cut the price, simple as that. Early 2016 PS4 will continue to sell, Xbone will drop like an anchor. And so we have another big pre-season.

I just think $350 is still too much.

So? The market dictates value and sales. Your biased thoughts means nothing to anyone but you.

$50 is a happy medium for Sony. YoY sales are down after two years, it's to be expected. If they want to maintain momentum and boost peripheral, game and service sales they are going to need new buyers. They have cost reduced the hardware and are probably still in the black. This is nothing more than a boost to sales. After the tails burns down in 12-16 months they will move to $299 and do it all over again.

MS would have followed the same model, but they had to pull their emergency line early. They dumped Kinect and went to $399 and followed that shortly with $349 last year. They don't have much room to move now unless they want to loose money.

It's foul play from Sony to rain on Halo's parade like that.

Eh, I think maybe if they announced this price cut at their PSX conference (and it went into effect immediately), then maybe it would be them raining on Halo's parade. The conference is scheduled on the same day Halo 5 releases (October 27th), but I doubt they will announce anything of this magnitude there.

Didn't Microsoft also reduce the Xbox One price around the time that Bloodborne was released?
That's not the same, FranXico!
Halo is the definition of Xbox.
Bloodborne is just another Final Fantasy clone noone honestly cared about.
But this... This means war!
Put on your hippest indie-T-Shirt, Phil, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Halo is love. Halo is life.

I'm hoping the Bone will be around $200 with a game by Christmas, I might actually consider Jumping In at that price. Maybe there will be a Black Friday Bone for $200 with Halo 5.

I'm gonna say $100 with 3 games. One is Half life 3!!!

I bought my ps4 on launch day in the us and its been worth every single penny.
The experience of using it is as streamlined as possible in a modern console in my eyes and the game library is large and varied.
I've played and greatly enjoyed in the last two years on my ps4:
Battlefield 4
Killzone
Infamous:Second Son
NHL 16
Wolfenstein
Watch Dogs
Assassins Creed:Black Flag
Shadow Of Mordor
Bloodborne
Farcry 4
Resogun
GTAV
The Last Of Us
and a bunch of others.
It also uses hdmi-cec to turn on my receiver and tv and set the correct inputs on both just by pressing the playstation button on the ds4 - no remote needed at all. That really ups the convenience factor of the ps4 and its something neither the xbox one or wii u can match.
Saying the system should cost no more than $300 is just ludicrous in my eyes and something the market obviously disagrees with.

totally disagree...sales would be flat, this will increase sales a fair amount, they make more on software and PS subs then the hardware. The more popular console won;t get a boost from a price drop? LOL what? It did for MS why won't it Sony?

While I kind of agree with this - i would say it should help. Both systems (as of now) are priced EXACTLY the same and one system (PS4) is known to be more powerful AND popular.

The decision becomes harder for consumers when making their decision. I think Sony is making the right $50 gamble at the perfect time. The further drop to $299 will come w/in 6-9 months after the new year with a redesign (just a guess).

Cool, It's a bargain at it's price as it was...it's a great system, and bloodorne, Drive club, Mlb the show and infamous were all great, I don't just play exclusives I play games.
