Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

well i started my 2nd playthrough with wheeljack. i used him on my last pt already. i hope the throphy unlocks earlier for the chapters he wasn't available. getting some great loot on commander. fun stuff.

I have PS4 and Xbox one and rented both versions to try out. PS4 is the better of the two, in my opinion. I'm on a 60" plasma and the Xbox version had a smidge more aliasing and framerate was not as consistent and I could see some tearing on occasion. Nothing too bad though, but if you have access to either version I'd go with PS4. I am. I really prefer the Xbox controller though, over the DS4 for this type of game. Guess I would have to have the PC version to have the best of both worlds. Maybe next year I will be able to build a nice PC. Been a long time since I did last. It had dual Voodoo 2 3DFX cards in it if that gives you any idea :)

Enjoy the game. The soundtrack is sick. That double bass on the first Devastator encounter is so good!!

EDIT: I should add that on Xbox I'm using the beta dashboard. Not sure if any of the framerate issues are related to that.

Just as an FYI cause I've seen a few people post about this: Your transformers ALL gain XP regardless of whether you are controlling them or not.

So feel free to switch Transformers at will, they'll all be leveled up. For example, here's my Wheeljack whom I've played precisely 0 seconds of:

Oh shit, I didn't realize. I've been focussing on Prime before I started a new character. This is a good excuse to try out the S rank fists I found for Grimlock.

Finally got to play this tonight and holy hell its so damn good. Art style is spot on, nailed that nostalgia factor and the combat and music is pure platinum perfection.

Truth: Commander difficulty from the start. Sideswipe Vs Megatron Battle = most fun I may have ever had so early with a combat game.

No upgrades yet, pitiful strength/health, only starting weapon set. Megatron will 2-hit or 3-hit you if you're lucky. All while that amazing battle music plays and you really learn the Rush mechanic for the first time. One of the cleverest setups for a boss battle as well which really gets you into vehicle mode in an "out the box" thinking way.

Just fucking phenomenal. Haven't finished the game yet as a Commander dry-run is... whoooo boy am I retrying every other boss. But it hurts so good.

Praise be to Saito. Hallowed be his name.

His games really do it for me. I remember not being interested in Metal Gear Rising at all, but I ended up watching a high level playthrough of the ZOE Collection demo and thinking "goddamn this is the most badass thing I've ever seen in my life." And the music in his games HNNGGGGG

I think for magnus I'll say goodbye to Prime and try someone else. Probably Sideswipe or Bumblebee, like dem fast characters.

Magnus is crazy, they completely changed all the encounters. You start fighting the giant tank soldiers and insecticons right from the start.

So good.

Got this today and been playing all day. Liking it alot, as I love all of Platinums games.

One thing I just found is that you get a vehicle attack if you get a headshot. Very nice.

mother of god

I'm not even sure how you built up enough momentum to rush attack after he blocked your first vehicle attack. Did you hold the transform button when you performed the vehicle attack?

He's doing reversals after dodging drills which leads into vehicle attacks which he then combos into spin attacks which also lead into vehicle attacks.

This combat system is fun stuff! I'm uploading a video of a fight with Grimlock against Prime Difficulty Constructicons where I'm gimping myself with D Rank gear and no TECH. It's a bit sloppy because they just attack so relentlessly but it looks pretty damn cool either way :)

That Devastator fight though, definitely blew it there hah!

I rented it to get a feel for it. It's really good. The environments and stuff are very basic but this feels like a great action game when you're in the middle of it.

I think I really like Platinum's combo concept where finishing your combo strings gives you an EX Move, especially because it entirely justifies dodge offset and it makes combo memorisation fairly easy. I think I've also gotten used to dodging to activate Weaves. I did prefer Bayo's thing though where the Weave is actually independent of Bayo so you can dodge-cancel out of the Weave animation and start another string while the Weave still sets you up for whatever. Weapons affecting the weaves was also better, since I kinda get a little bored of seeing Prime's transformation attacks.

Fun fact: If you hold down trigger after a Weave attack you'll stay in vehicle mode. It's not as useful as you'd think because Prime's acceleration is rubbish but it might better for Bumblebee or Warrior-car-dude

i wish you could sell in bulk. selling 150 items is not fun. i made the mistake and quit game after selling, powering up my char and crafting. when i booted the game up i was back at the weapon screen :D

Man I had so much trouble against the final boss of chapter 1, got him to phase 2 but he beat my ass over and over and over...

Just as I was thinking of restarting the game on Scout I noticed that I could ofcourse also buy moves, so I bought Parry and Still Safe.

First try on the boss after that and I won!

Still Safe/Bat Within is fucking essential, especially since I can't get the parry down reliably. Seems to have a really tight window, or it's just really hard for me to read opponents (especially since the warn-spark timing is really different for each move, holy shit)

Honestly I wouldn't rely too heavily on the warn-spark. It's a nice heads up to get ready but you're better off just watching the attack itself

I actually rely mostly on sound cues, especially since enemies will attack from offscreen in this (I don't know why they didn't do the bayo thing where enemies who aren't on-screen can't attack on normal difficulty)

Don't sleep on the Devastator's Drills. At a high rank and some Focus, you can decimate entire crowds and destroy any boss in the game. I'm shocked that I can make this thing even stronger if I find one with an extra ability slot.

The game gets incredibly broken when using good gear, even Prime difficulty feels like a cake walk when your shotgun deals 7k damage per pellet and fires in tight clusters. I was 3 shotting bosses on Prime by doing reversal headshots, it was stupid hah!
