Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

I see alot of the 3S cast joining the roster later down the line. Lets not forget that the SF 30th anniversary is in 2017 and I'm assuming Capcom at least has a 2 year plan for the game.

The fuck are you talking about? I know it's not in regards to me.

No it's not referring to you. There are a large number of posts complaining about how this game is Street Fighter Alpha 4 because all the returning characters are "From Alpha".

Interestingly enough Street Fighter 4 also got complaints for being " Street Fighter Alpha 4".

Okay, so if they follow KI's production schedule we'll get 8 dlc characters and SF5 will end with 24 characters.

I'm cool with that.

I see the SF1 remaining chars coming back too during 2017 and 2018 because of the anniversary. The anniversary would be 2018 too if we count home and western release, btw. I see at least 3 or 4 years of SFV DLC btw.

8 characters per year or season. 2 years after launch we'd have 32 characters. 40 after 3 years. The proportion would be: from every 4 characters, 2 would come back from USFIV, 1 would be brand new (to the SF games post SF2) and 1 would come back form SFA3Max/3S/versus games.

Anybody here who wanted to love Skullgirls but had to bow out because that game plays like marvel 2 and fuck that game?

I am glad I can play their other game though and I hope Labzero continues making other games. :)

So which version is everyone going for here? PC or PS4?
Both probably, PS4 at launch.

I think one of the Giant Bomb just said that same thing about Skullgirls.

We're essentially already on season 1 with the first 16. You're jumping the gun thinking we're going to have "season 2" in 2016, when the game releases on that year.

I don't expect sf5 to have the same number of characters as sf4, given their KI sales model and especially since sf4's life was extended far beyond what was originally intended...so much that they recycled characters intended for a different game.

Considering apparently DLC production is happening soon after the main game is done, it could totally happen. Work on DLC a lot of time begins before the game is even released.

For me it was like

" man this marvel 2 game is cool, too bad I hate how most of these characters look "

I believe it is a tremendous mistake to think they are borrowing the KI sales model. They are definitely looking to do something like LoL. KI absolutely was using their model as an influence as well, but was clearly operating on a smaller budget, as their releases were very slow. I would imagine that SFV will be going after a much larger market share than KI was ever able to claim. I would be very surprised if they weren't far more aggressive with their character releases.

The idea of them completing one or two dlc characters shortly after release isn't far-fetched.

Adding 50% of the current roster is. SFV's number of characters will still be in the teens when Evo 2016 rolls around.

Lol does maybe 1 new champion every 2 months now at best. I think at it's peak you were getting 1 every 2 weeks. For Street Fighter I think at most we'll be seeing a new character a month. I would like to think they are going to do a better job balancing than Riot does and even Riot realized doing them every 2 weeks caused more issues than it was worth.

Ideally Capcom should do the team Ninja Approach. How they added Marie,Phase for and Lady Kstoute was perfect. A few months hints of character, character then time for the meta to settle then new character with some overall changes if needed.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are going to release twenty characters a year like LoL did for the first couple, but I don't think they will be drip feeding people as badly as KI did. I remember it taking a painful amount of time for the first batch of DLC characters after the game launched (which was obviously aggravated by how small the initial cast was).

I think Capcom will release 6 - 8 new character in the year after release.

Well I would imagine a season is from when the game is released, to capcom cup.

Which would be several months. KI were releasing characters per month, so if they had already started working , why stopping them from working?

1 Character a month just does not sound feasible unless they've got a significant lead with dlc characters already near complete now. Just dumping in half-baked characters is not a good look.

I could definitely see 6-8 post-launch characters by the end of 2016. I think we'll be getting new additions pretty regularly, with "breaks" in releases before EVO and Capcom Cup, to let game balance settle before these big tournaments.

6 characters a year will end up with 30 new chars in five years, for a total roster of 46, which is comparable with USF4 over six years.

Which would be a character over 2 months, which is reasonable considering a few teams in parallel.

I think we'll see day 1 DLC chars, tho, prolly a playable final boss and akuma maybe.

I counted at some point and there are like 66 existing playable characters in main SF lore. Which means, 54 are remaining after substracting the initial roster. Considering that among the 30 characters there will be between 0 to 12 new guys, there is around 50% chance your favorite won't appear in SFV if it has not already.

Well, of course, chances drop if your main was not in super turbo.

OFC this assumes 46 total characters. The number could easily go higher if SFV is super successful.

Would you believe me if i said I don't still trust capcom being on the level with this sort of thing.

I also think at some point we'll see a revamp, and everyone will get a second v-trigger, v-skill and/or super, like it happened with SF4. SF3 and SSF4 benefited a lot from selectable supers/ultras, and I don't think they will relinquish that so easily. I assume this will happen when the roster hits 30-something guys, so around 12-16 DLC characters in the future, so in two or two and a half years.

I found some direct-feed footage from the Brazil Game Show.
As for the remaining characters, I've come to terms with the possibility of Dhalsim being the last classic character. I just hope that, after the inevitable inclusion of Akuma as DLC, the SFII character flow ends there.

Totally understand that but if i had to bring one last SFII chracter back, i would say Fei Long, he honestly was a great character to me and i would love to see how they would work him into a SF5 playing field

If they HAVE to bring one more back Fei Long seems like a good choice. Sagat, Boxer, and Fei Long all have good designs and are classic representations of a martial art. That is definitely worth something. I do want them to make the cast, but only after other characters.

I actually like E. Honda, but I recognize that his design is a little dumb as well. Dee Jay isn't great either. My personal wish would be that Blanka, T. Hawk, and Dhalsim just don't make it.

before? I was thinking about downloadable characters after Evo and/or Capcom Cup because they don't really want to screw over the players with the changes.

Yeah I think it will be somewhere in between early Lol and KI and Capcom might be front loaded going into the games release so we might get some more support early. It will be interesting to see though.

Personally, I'm rather happy with the starting roster at this point so more characters is just gravy. I know a lot of people are still waiting on thier favorites though (SF3/4) in particular so hopefully they get some of the heavy hitters out early.

I'd really like to see Adon and Eagle at some point but I'm happy with Karin and Nash and really want to try Rashid as well.

Well console SFIV added 8 characters in 7 months (of course 2 of them were the boss and secret boss, but they still had to be toned down and tuned...) and Super added another 10 in 14 months time.

I really don't think it's far-fetched for Capcom to pump out 10 characters a year... if it's just characters and balance updates they don't have to worry about added mechanics like wall bounce, red focus, delayed wake up.... or add another super combo.

They've launched new updates for SFIV a few months before Evo, a character or two getting added before Evo 2016 is hardly comparable to that. They just won't do any major balance changes before Evo & Capcom Cup... and probably won't launch a character that month, heck they're good places to announce the next character before Top 8....

The cast of 3s isn't that big. I don't even think there are four characters left in SFIII worth bringing back.

These guys plus Urien is all we need. (Q can come along as well)

Is the lack of SF3 characters a fear that they would be a detriment to sales? I know Birdie was a 20th century gaming icon so he had to take a spot, but surely there's room for one SF3? Believe?

Yeah, I agreed with you that EVO is always great place for the character announcements. You got a fair point about the updates only if it's like few months before EVO. I'm intrigued to see how Capcom would handle their updates and seasons because it's quite their first time doing that. I really find this situation more exciting because it's something new for all of us , I guess.

I think they had ideas they wanted to use with Birdie and that's why he got included. I can't really tell you why no one from SF3 made the cut though.

Making 8-10 characters concurrently in a 7-14 month span is different from making one character a month. It would seem similar, but having all of those characters in various stages of development parallel one another means they're all getting months of tuning and balance work, even ones that are closer to being finished before others.

I really doubt it since they are easy sells.

Also I feel that packs with multiple characters make bigger buzz even if they wouldn't be as frequent.
