PCs are better than consoles argument tree

I game on both, the whole PC vs Console (and Console vs Console for that matter) is totally pointless to me. I just enjoy gaming, it doesn't matter to me what system it's on, and I'm normally a multi-platform buyer so I have plenty of choice when it comes to things like exclusives.

PC will always be more powerful / flexible as a gaming system but PC can get it's share of crappy ports (Batman) and while Consoles still have talented developers like Naughty Dog making games like Uncharted 4 exclusively for Console, then I will always own both PC and Console.

Consoles run better at similar specs, but similar specs are garbage in comparison to current average PC spec
Like a 960 which is pretty standard/affordable blows the fuck out of the PS4 or XB1's GPU

While this is true, I think we (the online commentators with serious investments in gaming) tend to forget just how many people own PCs without even a "pretty affordable" card in it.

Like, most of my social circle likes gaming to some extent, but not a single one of them owns a PC with a recent graphics card in it, and most of them would struggle to run PS3/360-era titles on their PCs, much less PS4/XBO-era titles.

I switched from PS3/Wii to high-end PC last year, and I'm a very happy gamer.
The main reason was I really got sick of so many games having framedrops, some even in the 20's. Now I play at a stable 1080/60.

But I'm certain I'll also buy a PS4 when it gets cheaper for some exclusive titles.

It's just a matter of taste.
Many people don't even notice the 30/60 FPS change so why should they buy a machine that costs a multitude of a console.

Now one can argue that socialization is at its peak when on PC, given that I can access a multitude of social programs while playing a game and the internet is right there at my fingertips. But I'd argue that the social aspect is more detached from PC games than it is on consoles. I can feel that it's different and that's what's making me feel this way, I think.

I'm curious why you think this. Every friend I have who plays games says something similar as a reason they don't want a PC but can't articulate it beyond it some ephemeral feeling. My guess is always that it's just the system they've used for years and that's where all their friends are and that's why it feels more 'homey' or something.

Yeah I know, the average joe doesn't have a good graphic card, given how laptops are more popular among average joes and laptops tend to have garbage specs for gaming besides "gaming laptops" that are imo a big waste of money

Sony and Microsoft give you an inferior system, charge you a lot of extra money for it
Sorry to cut a lot out but the consoles are cheap as chips... back when i bought my last GPU i got best i could afford it was over double the price of my 'whole' PS4...

I game on both PC & PS4 btw

Well thought out? If they had thought even for a moment they wouldn't have created nor worked on the tree even for a moment.

No. This is the opposite of thinking. This is emotional hollowness and envy being expressed under the guise of thinking.

A worm's every moment is as well thought out as this drivel.

Aside from my brother who is too busy to play at all anymore, I have not a single other friend on PSN, so it's not like I am no longer playing with friends anymore. The fact is that I didn't have them to begin with on PSN. But whenever users added me on PSN, I would get notifications as to what they are playing, when they're online, what they're doing, etc. And while I never cared for these things before, I seem to care now. What may also be contributing to these feelings is the fact that over the years I've had a dwindling social life due to full-time work, full-time school and a relationship, so if I devote time to play video games now, which to me has largely been an independent activity for most of my life, I don't want to continue feeling like a recluse when doing so.

But as I said I'm not entirely sure what prevents me from being able to game on PC. The aforementioned information is just conjecture. I can think of several reasons that may be contributing to this feeling, but I'm not 100% certain on anything. It's largely ambiguous.

PC in my mind is far better than consoles in almost every way. However, there are a few reasons I game on consoles.

When playing online on PC a user could have double my framerate, higher resolutions etc. I like the thought of consoles being more of a level playing field. I know there are still variables, but not as much as PC.

These exact things happen on Steam. So much so that I turned them off because they are annoying as fuck.

That makes sense, though I thought that Steam acts in much the same way. I guess not everyone is on the same 'platform' on PC though so maybe it feels more disconnected in that way. Thanks.

Sometimes I feel like arguing against a PC gamer is like arguing to a Kindle fanatic why I still prefer physical books. I mean, a Kindle is objectively superior. You get font control, the device is super light, ebooks are usually cheaper, and a kindle can hold thousands of books. And if you have a paper white kindle, you can read in the dark. But I still prefer reading physical books.

Console gamers are not the common enemy. Modern consoles are.

I feel it's important to include this information in the article as soon as possible, since a lot of people get the wrong impression going in and don't take information to heart until they realize they're being educated rather than scolded... I should also point out that it's well-known that past consoles outperformed PCs, but that was the past. This is now. Things are different. The openness of the PC was bound to be taken advantage of eventually, and what triggered it is the stagnation of the console market. And, now that the console market has stagnated and the PC is a viable alternative, it's very possible that traditional consoles with total control under a single corporation is entirely going to vanish.

Sony and Microsoft give you an inferior system, charge you a lot of extra money for it, and make you hold on to the pieces of junk for 8 years before they give you the option of (measly) upgrades. By selling you these systems, they lock you into their overpriced ecosystem, helping them further the cycle with their ill-acquired money. They don't let you play with friends unless you pay. They don't let you play with friends that bought the other systems at all. They don't let developers directly sell you the game - they charge for dev kits and include royalties, which massively decreases their profits over that of the PC version. When you take into account the business strategy of these companies, you'll find that it's all just one big greedy systematic ripoff of uneducated consumers. They're holding your favorite games hostage on their closed platforms because they know you'll buy into it. If everyone went with a PC and disregarded this disgusting behavior, these developers wouldn't be so easily convinced to support these "next-gen" consoles. So, do yourself and the industry a favor and go with a PC. PC exists because it's an excellent platform and for no other reason than that. Nobody's advertising it. Nobody's cutting deals with Frito Lay to get it stamped on Dorito bags. Nobody's running a 'PC booth' at gaming festivals. PC exists and thrives simply because it is freaking glorious. XBox and PlayStation consoles exist because their parent corporations hijack developers (and games) that people love and cancel ports to competing platforms (other consoles as well as PC), and force fans of these games to pay a 'hardware ransom' to play it. The PC is open, cheap, customizable, and powerful. Your best interests are always at hand, no matter how arrogant some PC gamers may seem when they speak negatively of the "anti-gamer" consoles. For anyone that's offended, I am truly sorry... but if you're going to get offended over this guide then you probably had no intention of giving PC a chance in the first place. Just remember: PC gaming is superior to console gaming, but the gamers themselves are neither superior or inferior to one another: they're just people with varying degrees of understanding. Fight the misinformation, fight the false advertising, and fight the anti-gaming console monopoly. Long live freedom, long live affordable and beautiful gaming, and long live the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race!

This is a thing that exists.

Long live making your own decisions, instead of feeding into biased ones.

As someone who games on both PC and PS4, the whole PC Master Race thing makes me visibly cringe everytime I see it

I get that it started as a joke, but so many people (even people I know in real life!) seem to take it completely seriously

As if people who don't game on PC somehow have less fun than them.

It's like people gaming on consoles somehow keep these Master Race types from having fun gaming on PC so they have to take the chance to show off the elitism every chance they get...

This is the only argument about it that needs to happen:

5Op9UoX.png

Pc hardcore crowd are a minority so they need to justify their business since most people they know play on Consoles. Here from all of my friends one plays on a high end pc, all the rest is Console, i feel bad for him, console guys are really hard on him so i can understand why Pc gamers came with this "Master Race" and Pcs thing.

But fun fact is that the Console guys play Counter Strike and League of Legends but those are games that anyone can play and most people playing them dont give two craps about Pc "Core" Gaming such as running C3 at 4K per exemple.

Im a big Console Fan, will never play on High End Pc since it does not offer what im looking for (AAA Exclusives such as Uncharted...) but i own over 18 games on steam, wich most were payed and i dont regret those, had pretty much fun and HL2 even today is just so good and also my Pc maxes out most of these games.

Trust me, I felt the same way before. I don't think I'd mind it now. lol

Perhaps I should also mention that the most interaction I had in gaming was when I played Killzone 2/3 and Call of Duty games. Now that I am on a PC I don't want to switch to using a mouse and keyboard, which I used when I religiously played Unreal Tournament 99 for years over a decade ago, but I'm not longer used to that setup nor do I want to not use a Dualshock 4, which I think is my favorite controller ever. Knowing that using a controller in multiplayer shooters on PC will most likely get me wrecked, I gravitate even more to an even playing field, that which is a PS4 where everyone uses a DS4.

I said it before: PC Master Race elitism is like if people who drove Ferraris made fun of the people who drive cheap cars or rentals. Of course no one does that, because that would get your ass kicked in real life.

They just do it on the internet where it's safe to act like an ass.

It may be that you are confusing the tongue-in-cheek appropriation of the "PC master race" term with the actual belief that PC is the best place to play games. The first is mostly used in a humorous manner, the second one is a legitimate opinion that many gamers hold.

That's probably why they do it from the safety of the internet

I think you're mistaken if you think it's always done tongue in cheek.

What I really can't understand is why people have to put other people down. I think PC is "better" if you're forced to objectively measure it, but guess what? I've been playing Destiny on PS4 and having a tremendous time. I played through the Master Chief Collection and had a great time. I'm getting Yoshi's Wooly World on Friday and my wife and I are going to have an awesome time. I own Diablo III and RoS on PC and PS4 and I've beaten both and gotten to high torment levels.

Yes, when I am playing CS:GO at 144fps with M+KB at a relatively high skill level that's an experience unique to PCs that you can't get on consoles, but that doesn't mean that consoles don't have their own charm and appeal. There's no way to discount the exclusives argument. Yes, PC gets the most exclusives, but 95% of them can't touch the first-party exclusives on the major consoles.

I don't know, man. People need to chill the fuck out and just enjoy playing games.

I really feel like some PC gamers really need to justify what they have purchased. Listen, you like PC's that's cool, other people like consoles and handhelds and that's cool too. Some even like both.

I built a gaming PC when the 7970 released, it's still a fairly capable machine and since I only have a 1080p 60hz monitor I can run games at 1080/60 better than consoles. But I much prefer playing on my consoles, I can see what my buddies are up to, trophies/achievements, couch playing and console exclusives.

Unfortunately my PC only gets used for work and LoL. I pretty much gave up all PC gaming except LoL 3 months after getting it. People just need to enjoy games and play on what they like.

Trust me, I felt the same way before. I don't think I'd mind it now. lol

Yes but those things that you miss exist in Steam so I don't really understand how you could be missing them. They are turned on by default when you install Steam.

It's not like MGSV sold 700,000 copies. Or GTAV sold 3 million on Steam alone. Or Witcher 3 sold over a million across both GOG and Steam. Nah, hardcore crowd are a minority and most people they know play on consoles. Most of my friends play on PC. Guess what, most of your friends play on consoles because those are the people you associate with. Just like a lot of PC gamers have mostly friends on PC because that's who they associate with.

I'd be curious how old you are - just kind of ballpark. For me, it's the exact opposite and I'm 34. All my friends have gaming PCs, but none of them own any of the new consoles.

Not all of my games are on Steam. The games I'd care to be notified of other players are multiplayer (shooters), which as I said I need to use a controller (when others can be using mouse and keyboard). My care for these things are not the same on PC as they are on a console.

I think you're mistaken if you think it's always done tongue in cheek.

Definitely not always, but I feel confident in saying that making fun of 'console peasants' is usually done tongue-in-cheek.

Honestly, from your post it kinda seems that you are the one trying to justify your console purchase.

Having both a PC (although GTX 670 is getting outdated real fast) and a PS4, my decision criteria goes:

- If a game is single player, I'm getting it on PC for sure.
- If a game is multiplayer, I'm most likely getting it on PS4 to avoid cheaters. Some well moderated games like CSGO and Battlefield will be on PC though.
- If a game contains Dark Souls style invasion multiplayer, I'm avoiding the PC version and definitely going PS4, because non-consensual invasions are just begging for cheaters. See all the cheaters instantly stealing everything from MGS5 FOBs.

Basically, cheaters are the problem with an open platform. PS4 hasn't been hacked like last gen consoles so it's my place to go for multiplayer.

It is better, but it doesn't mean that console gaming isn't great.

I'm mainly a PC gamer but I still like the simplicity of consoles and how I don't have to bother configuring anything. With some games I just want the experience to be as stable as possible like with SFV, also less cheaters.

Not all of my games are on Steam. The games I'd care to be notified of other players are multiplayer (shooters), which as I said I need to use a controller (when others can be using mouse and keyboard). My care for these things are not the same on PC as they are on a console.

Wanting to use a controller on PC FPS games is a totally acceptable reasoning but even if your games aren't on Steam, every major service has a built in friends list. It's a pain to have to add people on every service but it's not that big a deal and it's a small trade to have a completely open system. What services do you use that don't have community features?

Definitely not always, but I feel confident in saying that making fun of 'console peasants' is usually done tongue-in-cheek.

Yes, and I'm referring to the ones who don't do it tongue in cheek (although it's very hard to tell the difference alot of the time, Poe's Law and all that)

So what be the problem? o.O

Well clearly having an open system isn't doing much for me. Some games I play don't have social support on PC, some are through Uplay, some are through Windows Play or whatever it's called, and some are through Steam. If something is releasing on a console and I am playing it, I am guaranteed to know if someone else is playing it on my friend's list, so I am more likely to connect with that individual. It's more seamless on a console and not as fragmented as it is on PC due to the several services.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses but in the end all that matters is which as the games you want to play.

Right now my most played system is my PSTV and that is objectively inferior in every rational way to any modern system on the market.

Real gamers play games, not argue over the fucking platform. I don't play a platform, I play games.

Also, just own both. Problem solved.

It's weird - now I have a gaming PC, and Steam/Humble sales have skyrocketed my games purchases way past the number of games I bought for consoles.

I have something like 125 games on Steam, 25 on Origin, 50 on GOG... it's insane.

And yet, I find myself playing less games now than when I had a console. These days when I find myself scrolling through my massive library looking for something to play I end up booting Sleeping Dogs up again instead of trying something new.

As a result, the backlog is real.

The problem be that the fanatical part of the console gaming audience that for some weird reason despises PC gaming will latch on to these few "pc master race" fanboys and paint the whole of the PC gaming community as such.
