Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Started a Magnus run last night, 3rd play through now, decided to go with Bumblebee on this one and thinking I might have made a bad choice, Bumblebee seems pretty weak in damage output and defense, pretty much every hit takes me from full life to barely a spec left, so it's like I am having to do a perfect run otherwise I'm dead in a blink, it's great fun though, completed chapter 2 so moving onto chapter 3 tonight. The SS Sniper Rifle I got just wrecks things though.

i finished the run with sideswipe and felt the same initially. you will adjust over time and get better drops etc. i never saw a SS drop on magus though. where is my luck.

Gameplay-wise how does it compare to MGR? I'm a huge fan of MGR and all these GIFs makes me wanna try the game

MGR is quite different in its approach and ultimately a more focused product, but I'd lie if I said I wasn't having so much fun.

Just beat Magnus, finally. My thumbs hurt. I have a feeling Prime is gonna hurt my feelings...

Whoo, 50K tech develop option. I know where my fake money is going!

Is there a way to buy stat increases for a character?

So if I want to start over with a different character and their level is quite a bit behind some other characters can I purchase stat upgrades somewhere?

I have checked the shop and the stats page don't see anywhere to do this however I have seen people saying just use your credits to upgrade your character stats.

Go to the stat page, highlight one of the stats and use the triangle button to increase it.

OMG lol seriously? Thanks, I am sure I have tried to do this but obviously didn't see the highlight or something, will try later, thanks. Time to pump some points into Bumblebee then might help on Magnus.

C and D rank weapons are weak, A and B are always stronger. You can't increase a weapon's rank but you can strengthen its stats.
Just sell or synth C and D rank weapons to your A and B rank ones.

Synthing them doesn't do anything to increase the damage the weapon does though... unless you see those numbers actually go up. Leveling up the weapon alone doesn't automatically increase damage. But you can synth those C/Ds for the skills on them.

So I decided I was going to do Wheeljack for my next run and what should drop near the end of my bumblebee Magnus run?

This game looks so good in .gif form... like an authentic 80's cartoon. Makes me with the game had a 20fps or less option to give it that feel during gameplay (just for fun)

Thank god they skipped the atrocious lyrics defining the metal poser scene from Rising.
Dig this one actually. Fits really well. Game is surprisingly fun and sometimes plain jaw dropping.
WTF? MGR's lyrics actually build the backstories of the bosses, and develop the game's themes. They boost the soundtrack from excellent to classic by taking ridiculously catchy context-appropriate music to an unnecessary but wonderful level of narrative synergy. Talk about going the extra mile.

jesus god i can't even do the first fight on magnus difficulty. these two heavies just fucking KICK MY ASS
Yeah, I had to restart that fight so many times. I quit at the Devastator fight. Might get back to it after the challenges.

I am having a blast doing the challenges on Commander, though

i want TMNT by P next or a sequel to this. because we're spoiled now.

When you get a taste of something DONE RIGHT, it's only natural you MORE. There are so many licensed games done wrong, which tend to sour us heavily. But yeah, when you get a taste of the good stuff, you don't want it to stop. And remember, when this was announced, people were writing it off as being another let down like Korra. That sure changed!

A TMNT game by P, be it the new Nick version, or full-on 80s toon nostalgia, I can so be down for that. I still want a GI Joe game that looks like you are playing the cartoons(similar to this). There are so many different games of old franchises I'd love.

Is it overdrive what gives the option for back to back vehicle attacks, or is it dependent on which combo you use with your current weapon? I'm confused how sometimes I get a chance to followup and sometimes not.

I'm also getting to the point where I just hold R1 after a vehicle attack to make sure I'm still in vehicle mode and can dash attack right away and I'm wondering if I'm screwing myself out of combos doing that.

arrived at challenge 20 on prime. every time you think it's over, they throw 5 more waves towards you, wtf. died at mena 50%, because naked robots can't fight. gonna try it again later. can't catch me off guard this time.

So how many chapters does the game have again?
8
?

I've been playing for at least 5 hours and I'm just starting chapter
4
now... All I'm doing is clearing out all the side missions before heading to the current story goal, while re-opening chests and repeating some quick timed challenges along the way.

I haven't even looked at the 50 challenge screen yet...

You can only get C/D weapons in normal right? Commander gives B/A ?

I've gotten B's and A's on "Normal", and I'm only half way (?) through. Better ranks on side challenges award more Rare drops.

What happens if you're playing Wheeljack during the 'Protect Wheeljack' sections?

Bumblebee takes Wheeljack's place (and yes, he does have quotes for them). :) I did it by accident yesterday.

There are 7 chapters, but the later ones are much shorter, so you're probably more than 2/3 done.

Also to the guy that criticised MGR's lyrics... you're high, dude.

Already finished the game on Prime but I want MOAR. It seems like SS weapons would break the game, but some challenges on Prime are ridiculous. SS weapons do a lot of damage but enemies are SO QUICK, their attacks come out IMMEDIATELY one after the other, there's almost no wind up animation at all to them, and they do massive damage. So it is kind of balanced as far as I'm concerned. :P

Magnus seems hugely overwhelming at first, but you get the hang of it. You need an S-class melee weapon.

took me 8 hours first time exploring. will be similar for you.

Yeah, the dudes seem to move faster to me, too and they friggen hit HARD.

edit:oh snap, meant to edit this in to above, sorry fellers.

I surprisingly had an easier time with Prime difficulty, barring the usual walls. It's... not a whole lot different from Magnus and if you got used to the pacing of the former with regards to how fast enemies move and how hard they hit, then you're already in a good position to beat Prime. Also helps that the loot system regularly starts dropping S / SS gear and that character attributes level up fairly quickly.

I guess I can see that. In Magnus it took a while before I got to a point where I had a good weapon that I liked and did a good amount of damage to the enemies. Just after starting Prime this morning, I had 7 SS weapons drop before the end of the first chapter. I don't even think I finished it, I just got to a place where felt I could stop for a while.

THIS GAAAAAAME

Seems like Activision was willing to give Platinum a licensed property after The Legend of Korra, and since this game was no doubt a bigger success, I would be more surprised if they didn't get another project. What are some huge licensed titles owned by Activision? Spider-Man for sure, which is interesting because Platinum did say they wanted to do a Spider-Gwen game. I do believe TMNT is held by Activision as well, so that's very likely.

As someone who has no reverence for the old cartoon... should i watch it before buying the game?

You really don't need much G1 knowledge for this game. You won't know who Decepticons like Blitzwing or Menasor are, but with the way the game paces itself all you really need to know is that you have to beat them up before they do the same to you.

A thing I found to like about this game is that if you're varied enough and pull lots of the special moves, the scoring for that can easily give you that SS Rank. I get hit lots and even use an item in this video, but my very first Magnus run gave me the highest rank - I was surprised haha.
Scoring system is kind of whack. All you really need to do for easy SS ranks is equip a firearm with low damage numbers and continuously land headshots with the Prime Time Bullet Dive™ because there's no limit on how many style points you can accumulate off of it.

It's boring and defeats the purpose of a game like this, but it's a glaring oversight.

I can't pull this off consistently, even dodging ranged attacks. I think it might also be tied to Overdrive, which would also explain why I can't get the melee counters consistently either.
It's not tied to Overdrive. It does have a tight timing window relative to other techniques in the game though.

Back-to-back vehicle attacks normally depend on the combo itself (which varies per weapon), but if the Transformers icon is blinking orange to red, you can quickly trigger one with the spinning lariat or repeated use of the palm thrust too.

Challenge #2 and #10 are so stressful.

Familiarity with the cartoon isn't required. I went into Devastation on good faith in Platinum alone because I strongly disliked the franchise and I still had a blast.

GIMME A BADASS GI JOE GAME DONE LIKE VANQUISH!!!!

Actually, it's worse, I cheesed probably half of the Liberty Bridge section (basically once the hammer dudes showed up) by chaining Dash Attack > Vehicle Attack > Vehicle Mode > Dash Attack over and over and still managed to get an SS. I wouldn't be earning no style points from anyone who watched me :p

Back-to-back vehicle attacks normally depend on the combo itself (which varies per weapon), but if the Transformers icon is blinking orange to red, you can quickly trigger one with the spinning lariat or repeated use of the palm thrust too.

Ah thanks, I figured as much. I just bothered picking up the lariat before stopping last night ;p

If this isn't some badass "Mega Man in 2015 by way of Platinum Games" music, I don't know what is. This soundtrack makes me nostalgic as hell.

Yeah half of the soundtrack feels like some fusion of classic and X series Mega Man tunes. It's ridiculous.

Music in this game is great. While not amazing on its own it gets me pumped for fights. Can't wait for the actual Megatron Boss fight, though I kinda wish the tone of his theme stuck more to how it was in the intro.

huh, i can see it like that, not sure that would fit with Platinum's fast gameplay

Then it's up to Konami to pull it off!
