Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

I hope they pull a Birdie on the 3S DLC and we get someone like Oro or Remy along with the popular 3S characters Alex,Urien,Dudley,Ibuki seem like a lock. I still dont get why people want Mak , I feel like 3S is the only game where she could work in and she will be meh in SF V.

"Hardcore fans" aren't going to vote for RAIYUU and KEN in droves...yet there they are at the top, by a large margin.
PLENTY of non-hardcore fans took that poll. The poll was widely publicized by Capcom themselves.

If you want to know what a "hardcore" poll looks like: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/...t-want-see-playable-capcoms-upcoming-fighter/
Ken and Akuma aren't even in the top 10.

And, if you're trying to argue that the online nature of the poll skews toward "hardcores", then I'm going to argue that non-online-saavy gamers are probably the ones who don't give a crap who's in the game anyways. That poll was from 2013, not 2000.

Both those polls arent really similar.

The Capcom poll is - Which is your favorite SF character
EHubs poll is - Which character do you want to see in SF V

Now sure there would be many who treat them both as who do you want in SF V but many wont. The first one is meant for for a variety of things (Like Merchandising..etc) , while the second is particularly SF V. I would vote for Akuma in the first but not for Akuma in the 2nd one. Since well hes guaranteed anyway.

Why does voting for Ryu and Ken make you non-hardcore?

Also If SF 3 characters soo popular why are they less represented compared to Alpha and SF 2 ? And it looks like the same will be repeated with SF V too. SF 3 isnt really 'unpopular' since 3SO and Daigo parry made it very popular among modern SF fans. But I still feel it isnt as famous as Alpha or SF2.

Its like holding a GOAT game poll on GAF vs Casual public poll. You will see titles like MGS,FF,Souls,Mario..etc on GAF , but in the public poll you will maybe see COD,Mario,Minecraft. Now just because a title like Mario comes in both poll doesn't mean they are the same audience. ( And dont take this literally , its just an example , but you get my point )

Its the same case with Ryu/Ken/Akuma/Sagat , Shotos are very popular among hardcore and casual fans as well. Theres always 2-3 shotos in Top 8 at EVO and stuff. Daigo picks a Shoto like in almost every game.

so sf3 characters are either garbage-tier characters not popular enough to make it in the roster or so popular they are being saved for dlc to make capcom millions.

looks like you guys got all the bases covered.

Ryu most unpopular SF character of all time CONFIRMED.

I think this explains why SFIII characters are going to be there, but mainly as unlockable/DLC characters. Almost everyone will be happy with that.

Yeah in the long run it's not that big of a deal, assuming they do the DLC right. I do feel kind of bad for people who really wanted their character in but the reality is it's just not possible to please everyone.

I think the starting roster is good and I hope as many people who can be happy with what they end up doing are pleased with how they take things from here.

So it's sagat.

Zoning character plus hype.

Yea has to be Sagat

I'd honestly be fine with Sagat as the last classic character.

Everyone is saying it's an SF2 character though.

Capcom kind of threw SF1 under the carpet. Birdie is an Alpha character now.

I'd rather have Dhalsim, tho. Why did we decide it was Sagat?

Sagat needs a beard as default, with his mafia getup minus the hat from sfiv

Actually the shirt comes off but he has a wife beater on

Regarding Dhalsim and Capcom presence in the Indian event: according to Ken Bogard seems we'll get an stage set in India. That event isn't huge so with the Indian stage would be enough. Zen also can have a Dhalsim-like gameplay so can replace the void of a Dhalsim-like character in the roster. And if Zen is Indian, then they can also announce the character there.

But I assume Capcom would prefer to announce characters at PGW and PSX because they will get more media attention. And well, I doubt they expand the initial 16 roster with more characters (Urien and Alex?) or that they start to announce DLC characters like 4 months before release.
PSX is too far out- we'll know the full roster before then.

It sounds funny to me how people keep saying Capcom doesn't care about the SFIII cast, when Elena, Ibuki, Hugo, Makoto, Dudley, Yun, and Yang all made it into IV. From Capcom's perspective, that's probably about the same as the way they're treating the SFIV Newcomers: As if everyone is pretty used to seeing them for years now, thus letting them sit out the initial roster is ok.

So disappointing. The 3rd Strike cast is so much more interesting than the cultural stereotypes we see in SF2, but that's the only cast anyone remembers or cares about.

If they're really more interesting, wouldn't people remember or care about them more? ;) Maybe they're more unique character designs on their own... but many also feel like remixes of SF's mainstays, within this series. This really keeps them from resonating as strongly, I'd say.

I kinda like them being support cast in this game so far, really. Nash and Laura give a good way for them to make a splash later on, and character made later into a multi-year game's life generally get to be very well refined and increasingly well-made.

Popularity is obviously not the only factor here...especially in a tiny 16 character debut roster.

Adon got in SF4, even though Capcom straight up admitted that no one really asked for him.

I love how Capcom makes to their strengths, preferences, and wider ideals in their games at times. Some of the most impressive / unique elements of their games come from the lower-popularity characters. V Birdie, IV Dhalsim, Necro, Q, Twelve... these character are full of unique animations, loads of personality that no one else fully replaces, and they often do things within the game that aren't similar to anyone else, gameplay or design wise.

Hope Zen ends up like this. Someone against the grain of normal design, but with some marvelous special effect (like beautifully animated water/ice, maybe?) that totally sticks out from the rest of the group.

.

This is kinda true.

SF1 "Kinda" absent on SF2 ( Ryu,Ken were there but Sagat was a boss character )
SF2 "kinda" absent on SFA1 ( I guess Chun is the exception and the other 2 Bison/Akuma were boss , Though I still dont feel you should even count Akuma as a SF 2 character)
SF Alpha skipped out on SF3
SF3 skipped out on SF4 (Vanilla)
SF4 skipped out on SF5 (Initial 16)

Matt said all games will eventually be represented, ex aside. I wonder if that means characters who just appeared in 1 as well. Retsu, let's go

What happened that it's apparently Sagat now? God that would be lame.

Matt Dalhgren- "It doesn't need to be someone from SF2"
Sagat is from SF 1 , Matt learning to troll from Ono.

Also Combofiend stated its going to be an "Annoying Male Zoner" , so its Sagat,Sim or Guile.

I really hope we get some variation of this as an alt for Mika, especially if it ditched the mask.

Conversation goes like this (I am paraphrasing):

Dahlgren: 1 Classic and 1 new left

Interviewer: What is a classic char

Dahlgren: I don't want to say too much because it will get obvious. We have left hints here and there and people who are up to date know about these, and are on to something. They are smart.

Interviewer: What does it mean "char you expect to be in a SF game?"

Dahlgren: You know what a classic char is. Mainstays that are pretty much almost present in SF.

Interviewer: But, it isn't limited to sf2 right?

Dahlgren: Not necessarily.

I don't see how he could have answered anything else than this, when he already said he didn't want to go in to detail about what a classic char means.

Also I asked Matt Edwards if he would consider Urien and Alex "classic characters" and he answered yes:P

But Sagat does sound very plausible to me!

I'd like Guile too, only because he's been the least changed character historically and I feel like Capcom would finally change him up a bit .

At least I hope. Doesn't Nash have a lot of his normals?

Their normals have always been really similar, but Nash's function a lot different in SF5 than Guile's traditionally have.

Soon as we get Blade (Gunloc), Joe, and Divorced Ken.

Ha, you are a mad genius. Everyone has been asking for Violant Ken for years, but Divorced Ken is MUCH more interesting. Occasionally, instead of a shoryuken, he just sits down and starts to cry. Also, you will get flashes of Violent Ken when he keeps pounding on his opponent long after the match is over screaming "I gave you everything! I GAVE YOU EVERYTHING!!!".

Like Karin was made way different from Fei, Charlie has been made way different from Guile. Long term we're likely seeing both as DLC.

Karin wasn't really all that much like Fei Long to begin with though, although now there are very few similarities.

Every third match Ken has to go early because that's the day he has custody of Mel and he can't be late to go pick him up from school.

I still think Juri is getting the last classic spot and Zen will be the Indian rep.
At this point, I don't think it is. They said a classic character you'd expect in a Street Fighter game. While Juri will probably get there one day, she's not a classic character just yet. Given the recent quote of it potentially not being restricted to SFII, it could be Sagat (since he originated from SFI). SFIII & IV characters will likely be reserved for DLC.

In no world is Juri a classic, mainstay, who is a staple of the series. Obviously Mtt means multiple, multiple entries, 2 games don't count.

That's what I mean. Juri's on her way to being within the ballpark of a mainstay Street Fighter, but she isn't there, yet.

Kinda funny of the 6 SF4 newbies (excluding bosses), Hakan and El Fuerte are probably the most likely to return after Juri. (Viper's Seismo was given away, Abel doesn't really have a point with Laura in the game, Rufus....is Rufus.)

For those that missed Max playing SF5 today, this is some cute stuff he found with Mika.
