Not really, at this point it feels like sf1 is disregarded or else Birdie wouldn't be an Alpha character.
It's just there's nothing really to talk about, why not speculate about Sagat? He fits as hints as Sim does.
Fair enough. At least we agree that Sagat could fit the annoying male zoner description as much as Dhalsim does. Plus Sagat's no slouch up-close, which seems to be the big thing with Street Fighter V.

Sure, and I agree.
I think Sim and Sagat are more synonyms with being an annoying zoner and I don't think we'll see another America character in the launch roster.
But will any of them get the range of 5?
I forgot about that, that's a good point. Sim would definitely get that.

It BLOWS my mind Capcom's most popular fighting game ever, SFIV, has absolutely NO reps in the initial core roster of SFV. They made sure to rep SFIV in UMVC3 by including Viper despite the very limited roster slots and here you would think at the least Juri would make it. So weird.
Capcom's most popular fighting game ever was Street Fighter 2 by a large margin. It blows SF4 out of the water.
That's actually a good summary of why I have some problems with Capcom 's tendency to start each new roster by re-using the same core SFII/Alpha characters (in IV and V so far at least): if they themselves do not elevate a few others like Juri or Alex to mainstay characters that are pretty much guaranteed to be in new iterations, most people might never bother with picking them up and sticking with them. This in turn further decreases their chances of staying in the limelight as Capcom will see that they are not being used or being voted on in polls, hence their return to the shadows after one game. There are exceptions like Karin, but mostly it's the same predictable, most used roster that gets voted up and selected again and again at the cost of prolonging the obscurity of already lesser used characters.
That's why I made that earlier comment about "being unknown/underused results in being unloved" - the general audience might be loving those characters the most that they see return the most frequently as well. That's why it could be considered Capcom's responsibility, more than ours, to promote those lesser known characters as well, especially if they do have some fans already that are clamoring for them.
Capcom should give every character a shot to become a mainstay when we move from one iteration to the next is what I'm saying in summary, not just the already well established ones.
Please. Juri is the worst of an already bad lot.

Well it's not like USF IV isn't readily available on the platforms SFV is launching on. Part of what made Street Fighter IV initially take off was having the SF2 cast and setting it post SF2... and really the new characters were pretty universally hated at first.
This is a huge investment from Sony and if you look at Capcom's fiscal report that came out this week... they literally cannot afford another Street Fighter x Tekken mistake. They're playing it safe with a formula that's proven to sell... and really getting upset over the launch roster is pointless as we're going to see a steady stream of DLC characters.
Fuerte at least kind of fits within the Street Fighter aesthetic becaus he's wearing fighting garb. They're both annoying as fuck though.
SF4 is popular because of the SF2 characters in it, not because of SF4 newcomers. Initial reviews and hype were all about people who wanted to come back after having not played SF since they were kids.

Oh, I'm not upset. I'd rather have a focused fighting game than a messy Gem situation like SFxT.
But wasn't SFIV Street Fighter's "revival"? The cast is popular enough to be recognized by a lot people (iconic even, maybe?)
Sure, the characters might not be the most liked, but then again Blanka is certainly not on a lot of people's favorite characters list yet he is considered a classic character.
Was about to say in what world is SF4 more popular than SF2.

Yea I think SF 2 was Capcom's biggest game ever , by quite a huge margin.
RE5 sold more , but if you count the massive $3bn+ in Arcade revenue and the Genesis version. Its pretty convincingly the biggest. Arcades were just so huge back then ,
SF V would need to become almost as big as LoL for it to make similar money.
