Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

I guess TMNT, Avatar the Last Airbender, another Transformers title or maybe something really crazy (Spyro? Crash? Pro Skater?) are the next things they will be doing with Activision.

It really seems that with Kora and Transformers, Activision loves the work Platinum is doing for them (and if anything, Activision saved the Rising team; with Rising 2 scrapped, Activision likely gave them the offer to work with an licensed IP that they own the publishing rights too). So them continuing to work with Platinum makes a lot of sense overall :).

Gotta comment on the games soundtrack though....its like the love child of Rising's OST and the old-school Transformers cartoon; its amazing :').

I don't own a PS4 yet but does the PS3 version of this run well? Would love to give this a shot but I don't know if I'm getting a PS4 this fall, so if anyone can answer this, I would greatly appreciate it :).

Platinum Game's Spyro: Year of the DRAGONSLAYERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSS

the only thing i regret is that the ost doesn't have lyrics because i would give anything to hear starscream sing a song about inevitably backstabbing everybody

The preorder dlc skins are available for a free download on the Australian PS Store. Is this a mistake?

That's Nemesis Prime with the Dark Star Saber, Red Alert with the Photon Disrupter and Goldfire with the Golden Hunter.

I was able to download and install the skin pack without any problems.

I suspect they're intended to be purchasable after release, otherwise they were prob. intended as pre-order items to encourage early sales and were always meant to be given to owners of the game down the line.

Finally wrapped up my first playthrough on story mode. Off to challenge mode before I move on to other things for the time being, but there's no way I'm not buying a copy of this. I really wasn't expecting to get so much out of this, but...

ok I literally can't type "there's more to this game than meets the eye" without physical discomfort

For some reason this has me wanting to replay Vanquish more than Bayonetta. Fuckin robots man

All this talk about Magnus difficulty and such, and here I am getting my ass kicked by three Insecticons, over and over...

But hey, I've been there with earlier fights and I've won them too, so I'll just try some more!

On Warrior difficulty...

Wait a sec, that screen... Does that mean you fight those two at the same time?!

please be excited

Melts my face. Might be better than the Rising soundtrack tbh. Same level at least, even without vocals.

I could actually see that. It doesn't have the extra kick of Rising's vocals, but the soundtrack is more consistent for me (obviously Rising's boss themes are godlike, but the regular battle themes were significantly weaker imo...not the case with Transformers) and going for lead guitar over lyrics let them go a bit more over the top with the melodies, I think. It'll be high as fuck on my SotY list.

Completed Magnus last night, I didn't have much issue in the last chapter, my SS Sniper Rifle dealt huge damage to bosses and such, even managed to get both trophies for defeating Soundwave without taking damage and beating him without beating his minions.

Honestly the hardest part for Magnus was those stupid big hammer wielding guys, they were the hardest enemy of that run.

Looking forward to starting with Prime, but for now just going to run through the game on easy with Grimlock and Wheeljack.

Anyone who can help me with a path to play this game after Warrior difficulty would be awesome. I want to play through the higher difficulties with all characters.

I played it once through with Optimus on Warrior. Then I started on Commander with Bumblebee. Gave him some lvl 10 weapons and upgraded his stats a bit. What should I do after that? Magnus wit everyone and then the same on Prime? Trying to figure out a roadmap.

Anyone wish there was a way to pick Platinum's and Activision's brains about this game? I'm dying to know how this thing got green-lit. What it was like getting Hasbro to OK all of the crazy shit in this game. Figuring out that the metal soundtrack was the best fit. I'm a crazy-ass Transformers fan and would love to know details like this.

just upgrade your weapons and you should be fine for the higher stuff. exp and credit boosting abilities are pretty useful when you start out. try some challenges if you want to test your gear or get some cash etc. there is no wrong path.

yea, i'd like to read some in-depth interviews about this game. biggest surprise 2015.

I'm at the same point, started my commander playthrough with Bumblebee last night and finished my warrior playthrough (also Optimus). Hopefully I get a good rank A melee weapon soon.

Does the XP drop more on the higher difficulties?

I'm definitely planning on going back and re-trying Bayonetta after this.

So..,characters gain new tech slots by increasing their Rank? I've been increasing BB's rank, up to 26 now, but no extra slot. I feel like I'm wasting credits on that category.

Is anyone else amazed how old franchises stick around?

There clearly must be something to series' such as Transformers/TMNT/GI Joe etc.
Even 30 years later, there are comic books, movies, animated series and even video games.

Its kind of incredible really.

yea, you need more patience. i think grim is the only one that unlocks at 99, lol.

yup, quality is often all over the place though ;)

Kids who were engrossed in the product back then have shitloads of disposable income now, comparatively. It's not actually all that surprising, and why a lot of these old properties keep coming back in the form of media (especially movies).

I bought this game just because of Platinum, but I know of others who bought it because it looks like old G1.

I'm frankly more impressed by the likes of Batman...

Well, you can thank IP rights for that. Hasbro licenses the IP out to different groups and they have to keep making stuff with them.

I love those franchises, but i'm also not convinced that there's any amount of quality that really keeps it alive: It's monetary interest that does. Easier to go back into the IP vault and dig something up than it is to create something new.

Anywho, sorry for getting all nofunallowed, there. I'm a big transformers nerd too.

Couldn't resist any longer. The gave is downloading now as I head to work. Can't wait to give it a spin tonight!

I just beat Bayonetta 2, beat all but the last witch test, and I fucking loved it. I had to give P* my business.

Yeah I've cracked too and bought it, and I'm not even much of a Transformers fan! Super Best Friend's video really sold me on it. How Bumblebee knocked Megatron towards Optimus prime and juggled him with a combo before Bumblebee picked it up again and wailed on him with aerial combos and kept the juggle going. Looked so sick.

Yeah, anything more than 1 hammer dude might as well be a boss fight

Friggen Enhanced Dodge TECH I think helps out a lot with a pack of those guys. The
top down part
with them all coming at you was frustrating, but felt so good to finally beat.

If this game had like...drop in co-op like in Dead Rising 2 or 3 that would be so money...

The best part of the game IMO is when you're fighting alongside all your robot pals in the last level.

Yes, they do up to a max of 5 T.E.C.H. slots.

Just a quick correction, SIX slots is max, at least for Optimus fully upgraded everything.

Just started the game, went in dark, heard it was cool

Pretty badass so far
Don't know who to use though

Don't switch around, focus on one, doesn't matter who. Managing each character's weapons really dragged down the pacing of my first playthrough.

Finished Commander difficulty last night with Optimus, tried starting a Magnus playthrough with Sideswipe, but just didn't have the gear for him so bumped it back down to Commander. Maybe after this I'll give Magnus a try with Optimus, but it's bumming me out how dependent the difficulty modes are on the gear. And I'd rather not switch equipment around with the characters because of how clunky the UI is.

Those heavies at the first encounter though, super excited to see how the encounters change later on.

Quick systems questions:

I'm about halfway through the first play through and am trying to understand how to (or if there is) dodge offset.

I keep running into enemies that do some sort of parry mid combo (meaning I don't get to vehicle attack), and getting my butt kicked in right after I use a vehicle attack (especially on the combiners).

I'm not exactly sure what state s the game has to address those two things. Bayonetta Witch Time was your friend, but Prime Time seems very short in comparison.

I just finished my first playthrough. Absolutely amazing game and I've never seen anything Transformers-related before that. Though I'm not sure whether I've overlooked some mechanics or if they game is kinda hard, especially in the last chapter.

There are weapon perks and TECHs that increase Focus Time if you need it.

As for dodge offset, as long as you tap the attack button and then dodge just after (or fast enough for it to be almost simultaneous), your next attack will be the next move in the combo. You don't need to hold dodge unlike Bayonetta

I'm honestly glad the game has equipment and TECHs. They add legitimate variety and have noticeable effect on how you play, and the management gives you an excuse for downtime. I'd have said before playing this that it was dumb to have anything more than a shop like Bayonetta, but I think it works pretty well.

I agree, it makes me want to play more. It's like the Destiny bug really. :P

Could be my own hangup with keeping weapons to one character, but the equipment dissuades me from switching characters. Feels like Optimus is my guy for conquering new difficulties unless I want to grind through the lower difficulties. Maybe if the better equipment wasn't so drip fed, I wouldn't be so adverse to switching characters out.

My issue with the weapons/TECHs is more than that the interface is cumbersome and you can't manage it efficiently. I mean, you can't even read weapon perk descriptions unless you have a weapon with filled-up slots and try to merge it with another weap that also has a perk - that's just unintuitive.

But ultimately it's not a massive issue. But it could have been handled way better.

This is currently wrecking everything for me

Spinning lariat and palm thrust can be used for a quick Vehicle Attack when your Overdrive meter (the Transformers icon in the top-left corner) starts blinking different colors. Red has a higher probability than orange though, from what I've gathered.

Status effects are also fairly important on higher difficulties to negate the likelihood of enemies parrying.

The loot is causing a burnout effect for me now. Admittedly there is some nice variety in the available weaponry, but the whole system could've used some much-needed streamlining and that's ignoring all the cumbersome UI oversights. Also doesn't help that I've reached the point where it's mandatory for me to clear out my inventory again for 5 - 10 minutes each time I've hit the cap (which is after every hour of grinding Prime difficulty challenges), because I'm hoarding up the good weapon skills for the other characters and I quite frankly don't care about improving my arsenal for my 'primary' fighter. It's such a buzzkill, made worse by the fact it's a problem the devs could've resolved without much effort.

Yeah. And I guess because I play a lot of stuff like Dynasty Warriors too, my tolerance levels for this type of thing are a bit higher than most. But even I thought it was annoying that you can't even insta-level up the stats quicker nor anyway to just dump the junk you don't want after a mission.

If P* really does get a crack at making a sequel, these are the things that I'd hope they'd hammer out almost immediately.

Srsly fuck Blitzwing.

His second fight on magnus is insane. If it's not hard enough with some random soldiers driving around, around halfway through two hammer ground soldiers join the fight. Fuck those guys.
Got an S ranking though
