Do any of you actually wear a fedora?

Which of these socially questionable clothing items do you use?

I tried one on at a store one time as a joke (actually it was probably a trilby, but at this point they're the same). I saw my reflection and wanted to beat the shit out of myself.

Wait, when did they ruin cargo pants? I feel like I've missed something here.

What's wrong with cargo pants :(

People have been making fun of cargo pants for like, a decade. I don't know why, though.
I dont actually own any so it doesnt even apply to me, but I don't see how you can go wrong with pants that have extra spacious pockets. As a dude who is jealous of ladies purses for the amount of stuff they are able to carry, I think it seems like a great compromise.
And yet I only own jeans and dress pants.

Someone at work does, he put it on my head today so I guess I've technically worn one now =(

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I wore one once in 1984 when I went as Temple of Doom Indy for Halloween.

LOL at people attempting to make hating cargo pants a thing.

I live in a beach town in CA and I have never understood the Internet's hate for the fedora. I mean, around here, people in fedoras look like this:

Just awful... what?

Props to you for noticing that she's wearing a hat. I didn't catch that.

There are always exceptions that prove the rule.

Attractive people can generally pull off any look given the smallest modicum of effort.

Fedora? No.
Trillby? Yes, I have 3 Borsalino.

Yeah, I don't get it either.
I use cargo pants a lot, and exactly for the reasons you wrote about: wallet on one side, smartphone on the other, and I can drive with no frets. Wallet in the back pocket? Annoying and uncomfortable, plus cards get curved or may break. Smartphone in the front pocket? While sitting/driving? A 5" phone is unbearable.
Sorry for the OT.

Where I worked, the only guys I ever saw with fedoras were either wearing My Little Pony shirts or trenchcoats.

I remember seeing a dude at school show up during hot weather in a long black trenchcoat and sunglasses. He was indoors but he never took the sunglasses off. He was one of the more powerful nerd-wizards of the department. A group of nerds formed around him as he swayed it to and fro in front of them. He went on and on about how high quality it was, opening it up in the "flasher" pose to show off the loud-colored lining while nodding his head, feeling confident in how cool he looked.

I just walked away from that area as quickly as possible so I didnt have to listen to it a second longer. I then remembered that this was the same dude who had previously started a conversation with me about Back to the Future. I love the movie so I was into it, but then he started telling me how the flux capacitor was feasible and his theories about how it worked. It was then that I went dead-fish in the conversation so that it would naturally die.

Only in my heart. So no...never worn a fedora or trilby. I look terrible in hats generally and avoid wearing them.

This is who OP is looking for, right?

Everything. You don't need that many pockets and they look like shit on everyone.

Hence them being in the same burnable category as fedoras.

These are cargo pants, whats the issue here?

Hating any pants with more than 2 front and 2 back pockets is literally a "i know nothing about clothing" calling card.

Black guys can rock it just fine tho.

Black guys can rock a lot of styles that I cannot and I am so very jealous. Like, once a week I'm jealous.
I think what I'm most jealous if is their superhuman ability to make absurd amounts of purple look amazing. If I wear too much purple I end up just looking like an awkward 90s dad and I might as well break out the teal fanny pack.

My nephew owns a trilby and I want to slap him silly whenever I see him wearing it.

Cargo pants, though? I fail to see the problem.

There's nothing wrong with cargo pants! All those pockets and leg room that you'd never get on a modern pair of jeans are to die for

Why would you need that many pockets?

I agree, I'm putting Cargo Pants in with the Fedoras.

they gotta go.

I've only really ever seen seen hipsters and old people (including my dad) wear fedoras. I've probably tried one on myself before, but really I don't wear hats at all (besides toques during Winter of course).

I used to wear a fedora and a bowler hat for awhile in highschool because of Ska/Punk fashions. I was looking for a pork-pie hat but it was impossible to find hats like that at the time. I actually gained a lot of friends from wearing a fedora and people frequently approached me in public to complement or talk to me despite looking like an utter skid.

If you genuinely need to carry as much cargo as cargo shorts and pants are designed to be encumbered with, then you're much better off with a satchel or backpack. And if you don't need that many pockets, then you're wasting a perfectly good opportunity to wear something more flattering or comfortable.

Fedoras and trilbies look good on the right person wearing the right outfit, but they aren't a cure all of bandaid for an otherwise atrocious outifit.
